What's the deal with Webkins?

I guess I'm not sure exactly how they work. So you buy the Webkin and then you can use its code to create an account online?? Then what do you do with it?

My DD9 loves playing online games and such. She loves toontown, but I ended our paid subscription when school started because she really doesn't have that much time to play online anymore anyway, but if this allows you to create characters similar to toontown, maybe she'd like it too.

Just wondering exactly how it works.

Becky

I don't know a 9 year old girl that doesn't love Webkinz. You buy the stuffed animal and enter the code and create an account. Then, they do jobs, earn money, play games for kinzcash and they can spend it right away to decorate their house or they can save up to buy something big. You can even plant a garden, rake it, water it and harvest it. The character you get stays the same...it is a cartoon of the stuffed animal. Just make sure she knows not to give out her code or friends could sell her stuff.

Would this be something fun for 11 and 12 year olds?

They do sound like something that she'd love. So, if you have more than one stuffed animal, can you then get more than one character online and is there a reason for doing that? Also, if you have friends with these, can they "meet" online and play together?

Thanks again!

Yes, they can "meet" online and play together. My 9 yo DS loves to play this with his friend. They play games and earn virtual money to buy stuff - some of the games I saw at least were educational - I know my son was taking a quiz about the body one day (about bones, blood cells, etc.). My son and his friend can also "buy" each other's animal gifts.

my daughter (11) and her friends, my niece and nephews all have webkins and love playing online. They can also send messages and virtual "gifts" online. They love it! Cookie

I have 3 kids who all play. Their ages are 7, 11 and 16. I even have an account. We invite each other over to our "homes" and play games. I'm always sending them gifts since I have more kinz cash then they do..lol

My 5th grader and all her friends LOVE these! She has 9 now and wants more!

My 8th grader wants nothing to do with it. It's just the elementary girls here.

My husband went away on a trip and brought me back 5 of these things. I have a kitty, pig, horse, monkey and I forget what the other is Im at work. Poor thing was so excited when he brought them home but upset I had no idea what they were. I'm 36 not 10 not sure what he was thinking. I love him for thinking of me but not sure where the thought came from. Anyways I have never used the codes for them. I went on the site when I first got them to see what they were found out that it was not in my age range lol. So now they just lay on my bed because they are still new enough DH would notice if they disapeared.

You could probably sell or give away the codes that come with them if you haven't used them.

What about the trading cards? Do they get you more online or are they just to play with?

They will love them. Try to find the Reindeer for Christmas so cute.. They are approx 9.99 for LIL KINZ and 13.99 for Big Kinz.

Trading cards are iffy. Some codes give you great items(such as exclusives), whiles other give you a bag of groceries.
You can get a virtual trading card book and collect the cards to unlock additional prizes but it can get quite expensive.
I've read on other boards of people opening over 200 pks and still not getting them all!

The only real perk with the cards is the chance to win a free pet. I managed 1 out of about 25 pks we've bought.
To me, they aren't worth $3/ pk.

Gosh, this sounds fun to me!
Seems similar to Animal Crossing (which I love) but with better and more fun options + it sounds like it's very interactive.

My DD will be turning 5 this Sunday. She's been a "computer freak" since she was 3. I brought her one about a month ago and gave it to her early (I know I'm a sucker) and she's already mastered it. She's was given a room and has the furniture, playthings, clothes, etc. Hers is a little poodle like our real doggie. It even lets you link your room when you get other animals which she is BEGGING for for her birthday. (She will be I didn't know anything about them until I brought this one and I love them, they are tooo cute.

My boys are 4 & 7 and both have several Webkinz each. My 4 year old is much more into it than my 7 year old. My 7 year old played quite a bit this summer because his friend (7 year old girl) on his swim team was into them and they would play together. He still has one he got over the summer that he has not registered yet. I think it depends on if your boys friends are into it or not. They are not expensive -- around $15 for the regular ones and around $10 for the smaller 'little kinz'. Maybe ask around to your kids friends or their parents and see what their reaction is (if you want to surprise your kids and not ask them).

My 6 yo DS has been saving his allowance for a couple of moths and today is the day we are buying his first Webkinz. My 8 yo DD doesn't seem to have any interest but she also doesn't part with her money very easily! Not sure what she's saving for but she has more cash than I do!

My 3 and 8 year old love them although they don't play with them as much any more now that school has started.

Keowa.....I love playing with my kids accounts....there are cute games to play and rooms to decorate, recipes to make.....it's fun......create just one accout and I bet you will be hooked!

Don't forget ~ on Halloween they are giving a surprise package away so log in that day!

If anyone wants to be friends with my kids.....let me know their log in names.........

My 9 year old DD and 6 year old DS are obsessed with Webkinz. Only difference is DS doesn't play with the actual stuffed animal, he just likes the website.

Hallmark and Limited Too.

I'm sure there are other places, but those 2 are what I'm familiar with.
