I work for a seasonal place. My position is part time/seasonal. I work 9-10 months out of the year. During the summer I work full time hours and in the spring and fall part time hours. Then I am off Dec and Jan. Because I work over 16 weeks I am able to collect unemployement while I am laid off in the winter. I do not get any benefits. Is it seasonal or temporary? Will you go back when their season starts again? Me I know when I am laid off in Dec that I will be going back Feb. 1. |

"Herff Jones, a nationwide producer of award winning yearbooks, offers yearly seasonal work from October - June. We are looking for people with good computer skills who would be interested in seasonal work and learning graphics, we provide the training." That's the job description. It's actually full time (40 hrs/wk) but ends in June. However, the pay is good and you get benefits also, which shocked me. I don't know about returning - first they have to offer me the job, LOL. My interview is next Thursday AM. You could say I'm a little nervous as my last interview was in November 1993! Suzanne

| I can't believe it!
I went in for my interview this morning and after an hour+ interview, and tour of the building -- the HR manager offered me the job!!! I can't believe it! Now I have a decision to make, that is - to take it? I think I want to... The hours are just a little earlier than I would like (7 am - 3:30 pm), as my twins can't get to elementary school until 7 AM - what to do there? (DH can't take them, he has a long commute and leaves at 6:20, about the same time I'll have to be leaving.) I already know there are spots for them in after school, so that's covered. DH doesn't know I applied for this.. I'm going to talk to him Saturday evening about this. (I have to let the HR manager know by Monday.) I was mostly pleased by what I heard: Casual dress code (so I don't even have to buy new clothes - as a SAHM, my wardrobe is *VERY* casual), benefits kick in after 90 days (but I don't need those, DH has great benefits), and 3 pay raises within the first year. Summers off - you get "laid off" in June, called back in November and you can collect unemployment during the off months. Paid training... Except for the slightly early start time, it sounded OK to me. I'm just in shock. The HR person said they got 350 responses (and they want/need to hire about 40), and she was very impressed with my cover letter and with ME! You can't know how that makes me feel - not "working" since 1994, and 2 1/2 years of college. Thanks for reading! Suzanne

Am I not entitled to get opinions here? Thanks...

You are very much entitled to ask for opinions. I just know that when I was looking for a job I was excited to share my search experiences with my husband. I can't imagine applying, interviewing, and considering a position without sharing my thoughts with him. I understand that everyone's situation is different and that's why I was asking. Have you made a list of pros and cons regarding this position? That might help you make your decision. Good luck.

I think you should go for it! I applied for a seasonal job last fall and not only got it but got hired year round (which I wanted--my kids are getting older..). It is very part time and flexible which i love, I do have to go in earlier some days but have a friend drop my kids at school. I get out before them and have most of my summer off (basically work a day a week during teh summer). I makes me feel good being in the working worldagain and gives us a little extra cash. I haven't regretted it. Good luck with your decision! Cookie
