We won't be seeing it, because we don't go see movies very often...

I'd have to see just how much is about religion. Sounded from that link that it's more of a "question authority" type of movie, which a billion movies like that already exist. If it's blah blah blah god blah blah blah, not interested.

Not only will I see the movie, I will be seeking out the books ASAP.

I have no problem with anything that might challenge my beliefs. I welcome opposing points of view. So far, nothing has changed my mind, but I'm open to learning about anything.

If you're strong in your beliefs, I don't see how a movie or a book can be a threat to that.

I think it's more that it's trying to appeal to children. You sound like a logical adult who can sort through such things but kids aren't that mature.

Ah. I see.

Even so, I wouldn't be afraid to allow my kids to see it (although mine are grown now). It would be a learning tool for me. I wouldn't let them see it alone, and I would discuss it with them.

It's not that I'm afraid of my kids seeing this movie. They are 12 & 15. I will not support people who's Religious beliefs I don't agree with. I don't mind having a conversation with someone, but will not support their cause in any way.

I believe she is a Scientologist which I'm sure takes into account her beliefs on Christianity and other religions. I don't think Scientology condemns other religious outright, but you've gotta wonder about someone who believes their bodies are inhabited by aliens (Thetans).

Nicole Kidman is not a Scientologist, It's her ex husband that is. I think that was part of their problems, they didn't see eye to eye on it.

I am shocked as well. Since Nicole married Keith in a catholic church she became reaffirmed in the Catholic faith (from Scientology..even though it seems she wasnt part of that???).

Anyhow, As the website stated, the Catholic church is against this movie I guess it threw me off that Nicole would be in it... hmmm.

We wont be seeing the movie either...

And therein lies the real problem: that unsuspecting parents will take their kids to see this movie thinking that it's a "kid's movie".

Sam Elliott was on The View this morning and said that the movie isn't for kids. He actually said that twice. He said there are a lot of very dark threads running through the movie.

Whatever you do,DO NOT see the movie "The Girl next Door" (2007). It is absolutely the most sickening movie ever made, and should be banned!

I'm planning on going to see it w/ my 2 oldest kids (8 & 12). I tried reading the book, but it was soooo boring. I don't see the big deal - if it doesn't appeal to you, don't see it. Kind of like the route I took w/ regards to that Mel Gibson movie. Passion of the Cross or something. Didn't appeal to me, so I didn't go see it. I didn't try to persuade others not to see it though. I guess I figured it wasn't my business if they did or didn't.

I dont know if I will see this movie or not, really it more depends on if I want to spend the money and if I have time. I dont go to the movies often and really only go and see the ones that I think seeing it AT the movies will make the movie better.

Anyhow, I dont think of movies as a valuable source of information so even if I did see it, it would not change my belief system.

Sadly, it was based on a true story.

So what!! I am Catholic if I only went to movies made by people who are the same relision as me it would be Mel Gibson and nothing else! And he is not even from the same "part" of the Church as I am so I guess I would have nothing to watch.

It's just like Harry Potter. I have read every one of those books and seen every movie but I know that that type of magic and fantasy doesn't exist. I'm not going to let a movie change my belief. My 17 yr DD went to see it last night, it didn't change her belief, she said it was an okay movie. I will watch it when it comes out on DVD, but won't go to the movie theater for it. If I'm going to the movie theater it will be to see the Chipmunks!!! what a cute movie
