Do you have a cutoff time for the end of Trick or Treating?

I know we have designated hours of 6-8pm for Trick or Treating here, does everyone else have set hours put out by the city? We keep passing out candy till it's time for our kids to start getting ready for bed......If we didn't they wouldn't ever get to bed.......When we are done passing out Candy we turn off our porch lights and the decoration lights........

How about everyone else?

We don't hand out candy at our house (we are way too rural for anyone to come here). We go to my MIL's and hubby and I take turns taking the kids around. Anyway, when it's his year, I hand out the candy so MIL doesn't have to walk up and down the stairs. Our TOT time is 6-8 and most kids are done by 8 and don't come to the door after that.

8PM is the customary cut off, but, I keep the light on up until 9PM or until I'm out of candy.

No designated hours here, but I usually turn off the light at 9:00. However this year, since we've had a few problems with bratty, undisciplined kids, I think I will be keeping the house lit up well past midnight.

Our town has set 530 -8, but I don't stop until they stop knocking. However, since we moved I doubt I will get any trick or treaters. I normally take DS out for about 45 minutes after that I think its just a waste of candy, we end up throwing out a lot already.

Lights out at 9 pm here. But next year when Halloween comes on Friday night (thanks to 2008 being a leap year) we will probably go til 10 pm and have more candy than we usually do for the older kids that come late.

Happy Halloween Ya'll!

Our old neighborhood was 6-8-8:30ish. There'd usually be a few straglers after 8PM. We usually turn the light off between 8:30 and 9 or if we run out of candy. The girls (well 1 this year - the other is 8th grade and too old) get home and sort out what they don't want (all coconut!!) and throw it back in the bowl to give away to the few that come to the door after she gets home.

We moved across town to another neighborhood, so I'm assuming it'll be about the same.

Our city does not have one but I have an internal clock that says lights out at 8! Time to get the kids all settled down, in the tub, and into bed by 9-10. If the doorbell kept ringing, it would just get the little ones riled up (and the slightly older ones asking why they aren't still out!).

I have no idea if we have set hours. We turn off our light around 9 or 9:30. We usually wait until it's been 20 minutes since our last TOT'er. Usually we get a big pack of preteens/teens around 9 and that's it.

I don't know if we have set hours, but the light goes off at 8 PM or whenever the candy runs out, whichever comes first.

8 PM is late enough, usually my husband and I have something to do or somewhere to go, or we just want to relax for the evening. I've seen kids starting around here at 5:30 - which is fine with me, I'm ready the night before - and 2 1/2 hours is long enough.

We rarely have any trick-r-treaters because we're in a rural area. But I always have my front porch light on until around 8:00 just in case a child happens to come by. We do have friends bring their children by but usually we know they're coming and I've fixed them a 'special bag'.

No designated hours here, but we'll keep the outside lights on until about 9:00...I've never given the kids a set time to be home, but we live in a pretty small neighborhood (about 65 houses) so they are always back by about 8:00... ~Lisa

Our hours are from 6-8. They sound the tornado warning siren to start and end trick or treating.

We have no set hours but we normally turn the lights out about 8:30. If we see little ones still out we leave it on...if we are not out of candy.

We leave our porch light on all night long. Does that mean that we'll get a knock at the door after midnight?

We do not have set hours here either. I usually turn off my lights when we haven't had any TOT for 20 to 30 min. So our lights go out around 8:30.

It could happen. One Halloween we had no kids come by after 8 or so. We turned light off. I went out to take dog to pee about 10. Forgot to turn light off, got a knock. Yep, my fav, the uncostumed teens with bags in hand. I told them they needed to get home, it was late & a school night.

We do not have set hours for TOTing. I like turning off the lights by 8:30.

Probably 9, especially since it's a school night.
Wish Halloween fell on the weekend this year. I recall one year all of us sat out front enjoying the cool air and talked darn near all night. This was because we could sleep in the next morning. It was fun.

I know what you mean....I'm really sad that its in the middle of the week too! Of course it doesn't help that the boys have Karate right before Trick or Treating starts, so it will be busy, but when it has fallen on a weekend, our neighbors and I would get together and the parents would talk the kids would get to play and wear off the sugar rush...and it was always so much fun.......
