Ok, my youngest daughter is in 2nd grade. As part of their Halloween party on Wednesday, we're having a writing contest. I had ask that they not put their name on the story but put their story title and name on a cover page. I did that so I could get someone at school to judge the stories and they wouldn't know who wrote it. I guess it didn't matter that much but several put names on them anyway. I had also ask for 50 words minimum and most didn't do that so I'm not going to worry about it. They tried hard and wrote some cute stories so I want to include them all in the judging. There's only a few stories(12 kids in the class and I didn't get a story from one and some paired up to do this). They're not long and I will type them as they've written them. Please tell me which story you like best. TIA for your help!


#1: The Talking Candy Corn
One Halloween night janis and Mick were dressed as a gost and a fairy. They went trick or treating at their nabrse house. first they went to Ms. Smiths houes. She always had speshl candy. Ms. Smith gave them a bag of candy corn. As they were walking to the nexst house they herd a voice saying Boo! I'll eat you. Janis and Mick looked all around to see who was talking. They kept hearing voices so they started to run. But the voice followed them. All of a sudin there bag shook and the candy corn jumed out and said Boo! I'm runing from you. Catch me if you can.

#2: The Curious Scarecrow
Once upon a time there was a scarecrow. One night he went into the woods. He saw some foot prints he followed them. The foot prints led him to a castle. He went inside and he found some more foot prints. He followed them and found a zombie. He ran out with fright. The End.

#3: The Haunted Hayride
It was a cold and spooky night. The moon was full and bright. We where on a big wagon with lots of hay on it. We went down a real spooky road. We turned by a big scary house. We heard some freaky noises and people came out with masks on. I was so scared I put my head under my blanket.

#4: In The Woods
Once upon a time there was a litte boy. He was about 5 or 6 years old. He was a very shy little boy. He had blonde hair. One night he was walking through the woods. He saw a house. We went in. He said "This is the most scary house I have ever seen." So he went up the stairs. He walked down the hallway and saw a door. He opened the door and went inside, where he saw a box on a shelf. He picked up the box and opened it very slowly.......AND THERE WAS A MOUSE!

#5: Two Kids
One dark and rainy Hallween two kids named kirra, Lexi. They walked in a forest. They found a house. They walked in the house. They found a goste and it said BOO! and the two kids skremed Help Help Help went Kirra and Lexi. They fallod the sound. They wer never seen agin.

#6: The Great Halloween Treat
Ones upon a time there was 3 kids and it was Halloween. They went to this first house. They knocked 2 times then the man said go Next dore. Then they said go Next door again. Then they were at the last house. Then they said Happy Halloween. Then they had a party.

#7: Scared Nit
Ones upon a time there was a wich. The witch was meen. The wich had three friends. the friends were angry at the witch so the witch ran away into the forest. The wich bumped into a gost. the gost said BOO! It scared the witch. She ran away.

#8: The Little Pumpkin
Once upon a time there was a pumpkin his name was Max. He lived in a pumpkin pach. But the other pumpkins Chip Tim Pat and Mat where meam to Max because he was the littleist. But one day he was waching the others play. Then Mat sat down. Then Max sneeked up and said BOO! Then Max ran right to Pat then Pat said I was cool and he wanted to be my friend. So they went and played ball. The End

#9: The Two Headed Hokey Player
Once their was a boy named Ethan. He was 7 and in 2nd grade. He has one sister named Erica. When he was 8 his friend sent 2 hokcey tickets and he told Mom. She said take your sister. Ok he said they whent. he thought he saw a hockey player with 2 heads. he did he told his sister. But she didn't belive him and he said let me see your phone he said NO! She yelled I'm calling Mom Ok she said he lied and called 911 he reported it but they didn't belive him either he called the army belived him they came and said where is it they said right there he said. The End

I like # 1. I guess the candy corn was her spin on 'special candy'.

I like #1 & #8. The Candy Corn Story was really cute. I like the ending to story #8 - how they ran off together to play ball & be friends. The other stories were awesome too - the kids showed a lot of creativity! :O)

I really liked #1 and # 8. Bless little #8's heart. Did anyone notice how it started out as a story about a pumpkin named Max but then at the end he says then Pat wanted to be "my" friend?

#1 Seemed well thought out and very creative. I think #8 wrote his from his heart.

We were told here we could do nothing for Halloween. My kids couldn't even bring cupcakes or anything.

Thanks everyone for your help! Everyone that wrote a story received a small prize. I had 2 prizes to give away because some of the kids had paired up to write their stories so in case that team won, I bought 2 prizes. Since a team did NOT win, I went with the 2 that had the most votes which was #1 and #8. They were happy girls!
