Printer ink -- refilling cartridges?

I bought a new Canon printer and am looking at buying the ink for refilling the cartridges myself.

I realize that it will probably wipe out the manufacturer's warranty to do this but that is not an issue to me because I got such a good price on the printer.

Do any of you have any experience with refilling cartridges yourself? Is it difficult to do? Do you recommend it?

Thanks in advance...

I don't know about refilling them, but don't buy the cheap, no name refill ones, they ruined my printer.

i don't refill myself but i do take them to be refilled. i've never had any problems. the one time i got home and one didn't work, so i went back to the store and they were able to fix it at no extra charge. i've heard of people not having such good luck with refilling, but for me, so far so good!

I refill my lexmard with nukote. It can be really messy, but once you get the hang of it,it;'s not bad.If it won't print after filling, let it sit a while, then clean the heads with the trouble shooting cleaning.it should work fine after that. The box says it will not void your warrantee.Mine is long gone anyway

I have been buying the really cheap cartridges for mine for several years with no problems. I have not tried to refill myself. I think the last batch I ordered were about 3 or 4 bucks each. I'm not going to pay the $30 it costs for the original and so far so good with the cheapo substitutes. I usually buy 6 at a time, three black and three color and that lasts me about a year, all for the cost of one of the original cartridges.

That's what I did with my old printer. Once in awhile I'd clean out the printhead and all would be fine... I really loved that printer too but it broke and I couldn't get the same printer or another that would work with all of the cartridges that I have left because it is obsolete.

Now, my new printer has cartridges that have the printhead built right into the ink cartridge. They are not cheap anywhere... Bummer.

That's why I figure filling them myself will be the way to go??? It was a cheap printer so I have that going for me.

Can anyone suggest a place to buy ink? Any particular brand that is good quality? Thanks!

I really don't remember. I do a new search every time I need them and just buy from the cheapest place I find. I usually search google or yahoo. Now my printer is not new so this may not work on newer printers. Also the cartridges mine uses are fairly easy to find online.

Printheads are almost always part of the cartridge now. It's usually considered a good thing, but it makes them so expensive. I found refilling horribly messy, sadly enough.

Hubby just did this today for the first time. It wasnt that hard, if you follow the directions. It was a bit messy but nothing that some newspaper on the table first didnt handle.

I would say that yes, I would do it again.. but... I also have to tell you that I noticed the print isnt as clear as before. It is still good, you can still read it just fine but it is just a bit thicker. Does that make sense??

It will do for every day printing but when I turn in papers for school, I am going to print them out at school.
