I am taking a class for my RN degree ... it is Interpersonnel Communication. I hate it, the teacher drives me crazy. Anywho, my assignment for this week is an analyis on the Breakfast Club. We spent last week watching it, and this week my paper is due on it. One of the questions is to come up with five labels for students for today if they remade the movies, what might be added to fit todays culture. (In case you have been living under a rock, or not alive in the the 80's the labels then were jock, criminal, nerd, basketcase and my favorite, Claire the princess) So my question is what labels would you come up with? And the other is do you think the members of the original Breakfast club would be friends on Monday? I say no, in an ideal world sure, but that was high school and a clique is a clique an I don't think 8 hours and a little pot would change that. So what are your thoughts.

jock, I think the jocks prefer to be called athletes. Not sure what they call them in school now.
criminal, Hmmm, the criminal was really the rebel.
nerd, Oh, those are geeks.
basketcase, Psychos is the first thing that comes to my mind.
princess, They are still princesses. Maybe snobs.

Would be?? No, they would not be friends. The idea of the movie was the discovery that they COULD be friends and were really not all that different behind those labels.

I think the basketcase would be the emo kid. That's the phrase I hear about here, any way. The princess might be the prep. I don't know about the others. I definitely don't think they'd have been friends after Saturday, although I do think each of them would have changed just little bit for the better in the way they deal with other people. Just a tiny bit.

DH and I caught the last 30 minutes or so of this the other day. They all looked so young (I know, they were!)

That's exactly what I'd say for these 4... not sure about the rebel/criminal kid.

"Emo" is like in the beginning of "Emotional".

I agree, Jocks will always be jocks (alot of times they are further defined by the sports they play-baseball, football, soccer, etc players)

Another common label amongst that age kid now is "Poseur" or "Poser" (spelling?).

Not sure if one of the group would fit that label?
