I could really use some help with 11 yo's Christmas.TIA

EKK, Another Christmas with wondering what to get for my Not so typical 11 yo DD.

My DD is very advance for her age. She's not your typical 11 year old girly girl. She's not into Dolls, Board Games, Make up ( altho she probably would like to use it, rules are you have to be 14-16 )

She's a *Book worm type* She has spoken a few times of things she wants, but after doing a review search ( I always search reviews for items my kids want so we dont spend money on junk )..

A few things she wants are listed here, Please tell me if you know the pro's and con's of the items and if you have this for your 11-15 yo children,. What do they think, likes, dislikes etc.. TIA. also, Please tell me what you are getting your Tween Girl.

She wants the whole set of Harry Potter books, WHY I dont have a clue she has read every book.

Whole set of Harry Potter Books

IM-ME , Dont know if I like this or not, but she listed it

Kajeet Phone (Ok got to say I dont have a clue about this, but after looking online, I'm sitting here going Hmm )

Ipod, (Another item I dont know anything about at all.)

Fly Fussion Pen ( I LIKE THIS! But does anyone here have it already and whats your thoughts)

Hanna Montana Video Camera

This is her list, excp, I didnt list the Cell Phone she will not be getting and the gameboy.

TIA for any help on this.

P.S Please tell me whats on your Tweens list.

My daughter (also 11 this year) is not into dolls and "typical" toys either. She really loves the "ology" books...
Mythology
Fairyology
Piratology
There are about three more just can't come up with them now. If you haven't seen these books, I suggest you take a look. I don't know how to explain them other then to say that they are awesome. They have pull outs and wonderful art. I think these books are ageless.

One place that has them is Costco. They are $11-$15 each, might be higher depending on where you go.

HTH

As far as the HP book set, my dd has the set and reads them over & over again. Especially when a new movie is set to come out. She likes to have it fresh in her mind when she goes to see the movies. LOL then, of course, she'll point out the differences in the movie to me.

The IPOD is basically a MP3 player. Same dd(16) is asking for a nano. Apple has the refurbished ones for $49 right now, I believe. From what I'm reading they are basically brand new, Apple is just trying to get rid of them to make way for the newer models.
I've never really looked at the Hanna Montanna camera but my 7 yr old loves her and has basically asked for everything & anything to do with HM. I think it would depend on the responsibility level of each child and if you think they would take good care of it.
HTH some.

Is the Fusion Pen the thing that reads what you write?? My DD mentioned something about that.

How about the Vampire series of books. Sorry, I forget what it's called, DD has one.

I think an IPod is good.

How about a bug terrarium?? Is she into that sort of thing??

Some CDs, clothes, bike???

Beads and wire for making jewelry.

does she knit or crochet?? Show any interest in that???

My DD has a large, expensive (IMHO) book collection. Alot of them she has purchased herself with her babysitting money. Once when I told her that I thought it was a much better idea to borrow and return at the library, she said she wants the books "to pass on to her future children, your grandchildren" Well that shut me up.

I have no idea what I am going to get her. I am glad you all have some ideas to help me along too!

My 11 YO DD loves her sewing machine and she is asking for a microscope this year. She also has this really fun electronic game, 20 questions. We normally pick up this game as a birthday gift for her friends that don't already have one. It is a blast and is small enough to take anywhere.

Has she read the Ann of Greene Gables series? My DD and I love to read and watch that series. It is a lot of fun and relates well to that age group.

My DD doesn't have any High School Musical or HM stuff but she likes to watch it on TV. Go Figure? I don't think I'll ever understand the intricacy of a tween girl.

Thanks Everyone for the suggestions and list of your DD's gifts.

Well I checked into getting the set of Harry Potter Books , However, can we say Hmm NOWAY, that set cost 199.00 before taxes ( Hard Back) Yes tried to talk her into the paper backs, she complained the print is too small. But she did give me a list of books she likes,
I spotted a link for a new book site and have a few of the books waiting for me to check out with them.
Wizardology ( Got in a cart now )
Mythology ( in my cart now)
Dragonology
Do we see a pattern here LOL.
Series of Unfortunate events
Harry Potter ( Complete set hardback why do I have a feeling I'm going to be shelling out a few hundred for this ? )
So you want to be a wizard
Witches in training ( Hmm, I got to look this up, I don't like the sound of this book, hope I'm wrong)
The wizard over the trees
Wizard of Waverly

We DON'T limit what she reads, ( My very very Christian grandfather never limited my Aunt on what she read either, We all agree that as long as they are reading what does it matter.) Please no one post something silly like Playboy, Playgirl Mag's LOL... I'm not talking about those kinds of books or anything sexual.

Ipod, Talked to DH tonight about that he said No, Mainly because you have to download from websites and he's not willing to do this just yet at her age.

Hanna Montana Cam, Dh said if she gets this only 1 other present for her as this is nearing 90.00 for the cam, I agree, we try to keep all presents for the kids at same Money level. Usually 100.00 - 125.00 each child.

Fly Fussion Pen.( I really like this and I'm willing to spend extra for the paper and books, She's really a smart child and most of her work is advance level, I think this will help her and would be a fun/ good learning tool all year long)

microscope She broke a main piece last Christmas taking it out of a box, even got to put it together.

20 Q already have this on her (stocking stuffer list

Ann of Greene Gables series ( Will def check into this set, thanks for the suggestion)

High School Musical , She has never said a word about even watching this show or liking it.

Encyclopedias or a Thesaurus, Well I don't think she would really care for this and a updated set of Encyclopedias run over 2000.00 If you get the 2007 set. Plus I don't know she would even want to just read this KWIM?, But good suggestion tho, thank you.

How about a bug terrarium?? Is she into that sort of thing?? No, she would never take car of it.

Some Cd's, clothes, bike??? Bikes are not allowed as we live on a MAJOR highway. Clothes I buy during the year sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. Cd's I do have a CD player Boom Box on back burner for her if we cannot come up with what she wants.

Beads and wire for making jewelry. I feel about this as I do about Lego's 1 is too many
All very good suggestions, Thank- You

I'm going to check out some of the book clubs to see what they are offering as *Specials*, Plus I told DH tonight I'm going to give her a Gift Card to Books A Million so she can get books she wants

She might enjoy the Wrinkle in Time series of books (5) by Madeline L'Engle, the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, His Dark Materieals Trilogy (Golden Compass, etc - controversial subject matter) by Pullman, or Tolkien's The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings if she enjoys the fantasy genre. Although as an avid reader, she may have already read these classics. I think it's so neat that she enjoys reading....bravo!

Brian Jacques writes fantasy for this age group, but I'm not at all familiar with his works. Look for something like Redwall....

FWIW, the Harry Potter hardcover set is $117 on Amazon (free shipping, no tax). Brian Jacques paperbacks are in Amazon's ongoing 4-for-3 promo as are most other mass market paperbacks.

Amazon.com: Harry Potter Boxset Books 1-7: Books: J. K. Rowling

ETA: How about some neat book marks or a book jacket for her stocking?

Target has a coupon in their "toy book" to get a free note book when you buy the Pen. Mine came in the Sunday paper, and I also picked up an extra copy in the Toy Section at Target. $9.99 value on that book, btw.

My 11 dd read A Wrinkle in Time for summer reading it was one of her summer reading books, she really liked it over the other book she had to read. Good suggestion.

I would try Amazon and also if you have a BJ's or Sam's membership the books are price good there too.

I got my dd a robe and slippers so far.

This is a hard year because they are out of toys and what they want is some pricy electronic device, like a cell phone.

the kajeet is a cell phone. prepaid. comes w/ IM, so if you get that, no need to get the IM-ME. The ipod only uses songs from ITunes unless you go through the trouble of converting songs/shows/movies to the proper format. The best thing about iTunes is that you can set a parental limit on what they can/can't download so you don't have to worry about it. My 12 year old uses it all the time and he can't download anything I don't want him to.

My 8 year old LOVES Hanna Montana and would kill for that camera.

My 12 year old had a prepaid for a year before we added him to our cell account this past August. He proved to be a lot more responsible about it than I thought he'd be and we've never had any problems w/ it/him. He wants some guitar that teaches you how to play it. A Wii (too expensive), and a bike (we just bought him the one he has, so no go).

check walmart for fly pen items. One I was in this weekend had some of the stuff on clearance, algebra maybe and something else. Too old for my daughter so I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it. Sorry.

We have the Fly pen - got it for DD last Christmas and she never uses it - BTW she is 8. I think she is just too young and it doesn't respond as well as I would like....long story there but anywho.

I would recommend a Nintendo DS - only because the Brain Age games are AWESOME!
