Ok - Our Heat Pump just died after only 8 years. I've narrowed my choices to two brands - Carrier and Trane, but can't seem to find any evidence that one is any better than the other. Does anyone want to weigh in on this? You guys are a really knowledgable bunch.

I appreciate any input.

My father-in-law worked for Carrier, but suggested we get a Trane when it came time to replace ours a few years ago. So far, we're problem free and very efficient. Check for rebates, too.

There is a recall on some Carrier heat pumps, fire hazzard. I read this on the link to the toy recall on this board just a few minutes ago. They have all recalls listed not just toys,

better yet. a wood stove!!!!!!!! lol I LOVE ours! and we cook on it all winter so saves eletric.

We bought a Trane a month ago to replace the upstair heat pump, so far no problems We bought a highly efficient one so hopefully our heating bill will be low this winter.
