Quick poll: Which way do you hang stockings?

I'm personalizing some stockings for the troops this weekend and next.....and enquiring minds need to know: which way do you hang stockings? Toe pointing right? Toe pointing left?

TIA,

I point them right as well. But if I am making stockings for someone I put the name on both sides.

Well slap me silly I had no idea there was a right or wrong way

The kids all have personalized stockings and the names are on both sides.......I have never actually paid attention to which way the hang every year, we just kinda throw 'em up!

That's a great idea....but I'm doing more than 50 of them and want to shortcut a little bit.

Yes, when I posted right, I meant it would look like an "L". Left would look like a "J".

Many of our Christmas stockings have to be "toe pointing left" as the embroidery design is on that side. If I placed these stockings "toe pointing right", red velvet would be facing us.

Holly

Exactly the reason that ours point in the direction that they point in!

Ok you guys had me really straining my brain on this one today when I went looking for decor today. I am starting to think it depends on the style or design on the stocking.

I stood in Kmart looking so dazed and confused today and unable to make up my mind THANKS GUYS!!!!

we ours under the tree (mantel won't hold stockings on it) and we have them toe facing whatever way it falls.

When facing the stocking, the toe points to the right. (like a sloppy capital L)

Thanks for the votes everyone!

I ended up going with toe pointing right, which was the way that the tag was on the stockings, so I figured the way the manufacturers intended them to be....and happened to be the way that I have always hung them, lol.

I personalized all of them yesterday, except for the LtCol and the MGySgt - am thinking of giving the big cheeses something a little different then the rest of the unit - but haven't decided yet. Went through a lot of tubes of glitter glue! Ended up using scribblers fabric paint also. They are all dry this morning and so I will go to step 2 which will be putting some decorations, trinkets, etc on them. Hopefully I'll be able to get these shipped out before Thanksgiving.

Thanks for your help everybody!

Now don't anyone be insulted by this, but in looking around the internet, I found that stockings sold by some preferred retailers (LLBean, LandsEnd, Macys, Pottery Barn, etc) always seem to point stocking toes to the right. Just an observation in my quick look-see.....many exceptions, I'm sure. (Yeah, I know, who the heck would research this....what can I say, I'm an engineer...)

I did the MasterGunns and the LtCol the same: put their names in gold glitter on the top white band and then sewed two large gold glitter snowflakes (tree ornaments actually) on the body of each. I also sewed a cluster of three jingle bells on a ribbon to the toe. Most of the others were decorated their names in fabric paint or glitter glue and with either stick-on foam or felt pieces and some with fabric bowes that I could stick through the felt...i.e. no sewing. I did about 8 different styles and they absolutely loved them. I got pics yesterday - the whole shop of 41 has stockings with their names on them. MasterGunns said he had a tear in his eye when he opened that box!

They sound wonderful. The simplest things like stocking can bring the biggest joy.
