sorry

I have been a member here for many many years. I have gone threw many many changes. But, why would you start this change right at the beginning of the Christmas shopping season? The site is too slow, too hard to look it BUT the end all for me was when I read the post "My grandpa died" and the first thing I see when I scroll down is an ad for condolence baskets????????? That is just bad. There are plenty of other sites out there and it is now time for me to move on.......................

It's a different ad now but along the same line. I can't even imagine if that was my post and I went to read the posts. Looking for comfort because that is what Mycouponers do. Just to see one of those ad! I think it would make everything sooooo much worse for them. It's wrong. Just plain WRONG!

I know you're not asking, but I'll clarify at least for others.

I believe they're rotating ads. The first ad *I* see when clicking on that same thread is for Barrister Books.

I refreshed the page and it changed to Create a Memorial Site

I refreshed again and it changed to Ads by Google for "Single Mom Makes It Big" and "Family Tree".

So....no, there wasn't any purposeful placement for condolence baskets in that spot. It just happened to be a random shot.

Carry on.

Since we were posting close to the same time, see my above post, I believe the ads are in ROTATION.

Sorry, Ambrianna, but I think you are only partly correct. The ads are rotating, but it is indeed context-sensitive ad placement, without a doubt. Can be useful, but can also have some very negative side effects as the OP states.

Since then, I've seen 2 more Ads by Google that had nothing of any sort to do with any content in that thread.

Point being - No one stuck a static ad there about condolence baskets (I've yet to see it) on purpose or to be an unfeeling cad. That's the gist I got from the OP's post.

Nah, I still think you missed the point.

Whether it is static or dynamic isn't the point. That the OP saw the condolence basket ONCE is the problem. The mere fact that context-sensitive ads are being placed in thread is the issue. And sometimes those ads are going to be in poor taste (as is the case with "grandpa died"). Sometimes they will not be in poor taste (as is the case of the holiday stocking ads placed in the post about how to hang stockings).

Hmmm....maybe we can have a little fun posting different subjects (since nothing is off limits) and see what kind of ads we can dredge up.

No, I don't think I did, as there's more than one way to look at something. I took a different meaning than you did.

No point in arguing over interpretation.

I understand how you all feel about the ads, And I'm sorry Snow, that you received that ad on you post, I dont think it was intentional , but we (MODS) have no control on what happens here, half the time we don't know what is going on either. Once we know , we will surly let all members know what is happening. Karrie

Thumbs down

Currently that thread is showing a dual ad for Bereavement Support and Grieving? Free Support as well as Create a Memorial Site (www.memory-of.com)......yeah, clearlya random placement of ads - NOT!

Let me try this one more time. It has nothing to do with the interpretation of what the OP meant, but with the misinformation presented above.

The ad placement is rotational, but it is purposeful (i.e. context-sensitive) in its placement of ads when and where possible. I do not know the mechanics of the software, the picking algorithm, or the ad base that is available for choosing, etc. but it definitely ATTEMPTS to place a relevant ad in the thread. To say otherwise, is just hogwash....

cj, I understand what you're saying, but we're on different tangents of the same thought. That's fine. There's always more than one side or way to look at something.

Have a nice day!
