Christmas Trees......Real or Fake?

I know it's still a little early but................

We have always had a fake tree.....last year we didn't even take all the decorations off, left the lights and some of the "hearty" decorations on it, and just threw it in the shed still standing....the kids are asking for a real tree this year.....I'm afraid with DS2 allergies and asthma that it might not be a good idea....what kind of up keep do they require?

Real or Fake?

Well....I have the allergy and asthma deal going on here, too! We have a fake tree. Got one of those pretty little pre-lit jobs! They are the best. To me, putting the lights on is the worst part of putting up (and taking down) a tree. I love real trees but.....for our house...we go fake!

Artificial here. I love the smell of real trees, but with our practical ways, we always use the same tree every year. There are many nice, artificial trees that look real.

Years ago around Christmas time I went to an aquaintance's house and they had at least a 15-20' Christmas tree. It was nice and very majestic, but I kept thinking to myself that I wonder how many years it took for that tree to get so big and they're only going to enjoy it a couple of weeks. As much as I love real trees, we will probably stick with the artificial one.

For me it has to be a real tree or no tree at all. Growing up in maine we always used to go cut our own in the woods. Some great memories there. I don't like to buy imported ones though...we usually search out a nice small local tree farm. I don't have any kind of allergies though and I rather like the smell of pine. Real trees are easy to take care of you just have to keep them watered ( just check the stand a couple times a day to make sure its mostly full). This ensures that the needles don't dry and fall off...and that you don't get any fires. Maybe you could try a nice wreath or similar arrangement in the house for a few days before investing in the whole tree ....just to be sure it won't trigger any asthma or allergy attacks.

Fake for me!
No watering
No needles (in the van or in the house or on the porch or anywhere!!!
No finding a place to drag it to after Christmas and no needles in the process!
No allergies.

We've always had a fake tree.....till last year. Our neighbor grows the MOST gorgeous trees and he said he'd sell us one for $20...I swear it had to be at least a 9 ft tree!!! We put it upstairs in our loft at the peak of our roof.....I had JUST enough room for the angel! But I love the smell of a real tree, and it wasn't bad watering it. And when we were done with it, we dragged it out the big sliding doors we have upstairs.....out the door and off the deck! Not much mess at all. Going to do the same this year.

REAL! To me there is no comparison. We go to a tree farm and choose one the day after Thanksgiving. The kids LOVE picking out the perfect tree and cutting it down. It is a tradition for our family. I really enjoy walking through the woods at that time of year.
I too am a BIG fan of the scent of a real tree. It's all a part of the holiday season for me.

Fake. 90% off at Target, of course. Most people can't tell the difference. We used to do the whole tree farm thing, but decided that it was a waste of money and not eco-friendly several years ago.

Only real here! I did have an artifical I usually put up in the dining room, but DH made me get rid of it last year. He hated it! So, I guess we'll have 3 real this year

We alternate every year. Last year it was a real one, so this year we drag out the fake one.

Fake and pre-lit... although one of the lightbulbs went out on one of the strings and now half of our pre-lit tree is unlit. Sigh. What's the point.

Fake all the way!! LOL My husband can't have a real tree in the house. Both he and our son have asthma. We had real trees every year when I was growing up but it doesn't bother me a bit to have a fake....pre-lit, of course!

We always had a real one until we moved to Hawaii, then we got a fake one. I prefer a fake one, but, love the look and smell of a real one. I am looking for a new tree this year, tho.

For years we had a huge real tree that my uncle who sold Christmas trees would drop off on my front porch as he left for the city to sell them. Sometimes they were so big we had to nail them to the floor and have guide wires on the top!!! We loved it.

But alas, we got a big dog who was not going to leave it alone so since then we've had a small table top fake one. I've gotten over the shock of it, but I would still rather have a real one!

Fake here too..I'm scared the house will burn down. I got it at Sears a few years ago 90% off. I paid34.00 or 39.00 dollars I can't remember now. I go to the tree lots and buy left over branches to make decorations and that give me the great pine smell.

Absolutely must be a REAL tree. Half the fun is going to go pick out the tree and having my hubby spin a half dozen trees until we find just the right one.

We always had real trees growing up but when i started my own family I didnt carry on that tradition. I have fake prelit trees and I love them. Easy to put up and no mess. If I want a tree smell I burn a yankee candle

Fake tree here. I have allergies and asthma the tree always make me sick. Even the fake ones because they get dusty and smell after being stored for a year. One year our weather was warm enough to hose our tree off. We keep it stored in a big plastic bag and box.

I'd love to be able to have a real tree, however, it's just not possible. Many years ago my mom put up a real tree and DH's eyes started swelling shut. The tree was immediately put out on the front porch.

oh WOW! That's what I'm afraid of happening....

I think I'm more in the love with the idea of going and shopping for the tree....just seems like it would be a lot of fun....

This year the plan is a real one. My dd is 8 and has never had the experiance .I think she should do it at least once. I'd love it if it was snowing when we are picking out the tree...I have such romantic, whimsical notions about Christmas......problem is, I can NEVER live up to my own expectations!

Real. We used an artificial for about 5 years, but it's just not the same. I go to the tree farm and ask for the tallest, skinniest tree they have. Last year it was 12 feet and only $15. I'm hoping for 15 feet this year.
