Its just hard for me to conceive the picture of a 15 yr. old hanging herself. That would seem to me a very difficult thing to do,and I remember being a 15 yr old depressed girl going through similar happenings.Maybe ODing on pills or slashing wrists but Hanging herself? I feel she was under diagnosed. She sounds to me like she was a lot more than severely mentally ill.

Not necessarily. My oldest dd lost a very good friend in the summer before her freshman year. She hung herself. No one saw it comming as she was a happy, perky, out going little girl. It came to a huge shock to everyone who knew her when it happened. She had never been diagnosed as depressed or had any mental illness issues.

Wanted to add in:
As for this case, I'm not sure where I would lay the blame. It's hard to imagine that people can actually be that cruel, especially a neighbor who was supposed to be "friends" with this family.

That's a tough one.....one way or the other, the Mother who helped create the "Josh" account should know better then to mess with a child.....That is just wrong......

Girl I was knew hung herself when she was 14...killed herself because a boy didn't like her (at least that's what the note said)

I cannot believe that adults would condone this kind of activity (creating fake personalities to fool other people) by their children, let alone behave in this manner themselves. But I need look no farther than this board then to know that there are "adults" who apparently think it's OK to bully other people or continually chide or otherwise try to annoy people on a long-term basis. I really have to wonder about people like who do this sort of thing and feel very sorry for them for whatever is missing in their lives...

This is terrible! What adults in thier right mind would do this to a child? If they thought things were being said about thier kids on myspace then why didn't they just talk to the girl's parents? if they thought things were that bad?

My DD's friend just tried to commit suicide within the last couple of months, I asked her why she did it and she said she felt like the world was against herwell the more I found out about the situation a boy had a lot to do with it and the girl already has issues.

It is so sad, I have had friend's commit suicide and I just don't know why they couldn't talk it out instead?

I didn't read the article in the link, but the article in my local paper said that the mom (not the daughter) created the account to gain the girl's confidence and see what she was saying about her own daughter.

So, for that reason, I think that the mother should be held accountable for part of what happened, possibly for involuntary manslaughter. She was an adult and knew what she was doing when she created this "Josh" character. She had no idea the girl would commit suicide, but how can you screw with a kid that way????

Although I feel what the parent did was wrong I don't feel she should be charged with involuntary manslaughter. There are millions of kids that go through worse crap than this day after day after day but they don't go and commit suicide.I think just some people are easily traumatized and cannot handle it.

No one is at fault. The adults were stupid and cruel, but that's all they are guilty of in my opinion. It's sad. There isn't always someone you blame. If the girl was that fragile, I suspect something else would have pushed her over the edge.

After seeing this video I wonder if these people that made up the fictional Josh character even feel any remorse for the girl's death? I mean nothing they could possibly say or do could ever make up for what they did but I feel like they should be remorseful.

OTOH, I feel the parents were in the wrong also for letting this child go into this Josh thing as far as it did. I won't allow my daughter on myspace, I am probably going to get flamed for this but if this girl had issues to begin with why would they allow her to have a myspace account and let things progress the way they did? If they knew her emotional status was fragile then why did they let her get that attached?

Those neighbors that did this should be made to do a public awareness thing like a national commercial or something on why it isn't cool to pretend to be someone you are not. Everyone makes mistakes but this one was a costly one. What a thing to have to live with for the rest of your life.

I agree with you. It is sad, it is sickening, but it is not likely a crime that is legally punishable. It is so sad to me that young girls struggle with their self-worth to this extent. There are so many Megans out there....

This happened a year ago?? What made it come up now I wonder?

I am speechless about this.. I will add though, this article is very badly written..notice the writer added one of Megan's interests as "hanging out with her friends". A good writer and editor would have caught that.
