Getting up the gumption to get your hair cut?

A while back I got a lot of my hair chopped off. That was a huge step for me, but I'm really really tired of my hair, and I'm thinking of getting it cut again, but I keep chickening out....probably sound stupid, but I get scared and cancel my appt. Right now my hair is midway down my back and the hair cut I want is the one like the character Violet on Pushing Daisies....anyone had a drastic hair cut and liked it? Were you glad you did it? do you regret it?

I don't know what Violet's hair looks like, but I got a drastic cut once. I iked it for about a year, and than missed my long straight hair! I vowed I would never doing anything that drastic again - it was a real pain to grow back out!! I made sure I told everyone around me, to make sure they never let me do anything like that again. LOL!

Good-Luck! Who knows, you may LOVE it and never want to go back to your old style. I guess it's a chance you will have to take! :O)

I can do so many things with it and fix it alot of different ways.,,,,,,,, the onething I want to do is change my color.....I've always been blonde and I think Im ready for a change. I didn't grow my hair long until I was out of my grandparents house (grandma didn't like long hair, too much upkeep) so I think I have a thing about cutting it now. I love some of the new styles and see these young girls and absolutly love their hair, but me and my old 80's self wins over.

I cut my hair short in my mid 20's. My hair was down to my butt. My hairdresser wouldn't cut it above shoulder length to make sure I didn't regret the cut. 2 weeks later went to chin length. I love my hair short. I won't go past my shoulders ever again. It is so much easier to wash & style. When it was long, it would take me about a hour a day to do my hair. I have to wash my hair everyday because it is oily. Now in 10-15 minutes, I'm done. I couldn't believe how much lighter my head felt without all that hair.
Good luck with your decision.

I have extremely long hair, I stand at 6' tall and have hair past my waist. About 5 years ago I got it cut to a few inches below the shoulders. I cried.....I will never get it cut that short ever again. I see my hair as part of me...its part of my personality. I personally couldn't do it again, plus it took 4 years to grow it out to the length I have now. But good luck to you, I think it depends how much your hair is part of your identity, on how much it will affect you.

I love Violets hair cut and wish I had that kind of hair!!! My hair is long, thick and curly and Im scared if I go any shorter than shoulder length I will turn into a big puff ball Do you think maybe you can try a longer version of the same cut to see if you like it?

I'm getting mine SHAVED in March for St. Baldrick's Day. It's a fundraiser for pediatric cancer. My goal is to raise $5000. That being said, a couple of weeks ago my hair was halfway down my back. I got it cut to shoulder length. It was kind of a last minute decision, but I'm glad I did it. I had a job interview the next day and I think it looked more professional and I think more appropriate given that the board I interviewed w/ was an older group of females. BUTTTTTT, last night was girls night out, and I did miss my long hair. I also dyed it a few shades darker than normal (I usually go w/ an extra light blonde). I did get a bunch of hair dye on clearance last week, so think I'll experiment a bit with the reds before I shave it all off. What the heck, it's only hair....

6 weeks ago after 4 yrs of not cutting my hair I got 16 inches plus cut off got it done really short and its already in need of a good trim, I have to brush my hair out of my eyes. I donated two 16 inch ponytails to locks of love. I actually prefer short hair, but will go long occasionally. I say go for it get it cut I dont watch the show you are talking about, but if its what you want do it , its only hair it does grow back and if its bad haircut you can always wear a scarf or hat until t grows out.

Now that's gumption!
And very generous. What a fantastic thing to do.

I think there is some software you can use to try out hairstyles. Seems that would be a great way to see the style before you actually have it cut.

Well, made my appt......enlisted my best friend to go with me, will be less likely to chicken out....a lot of days I wear a ballcap over a ponytail anyway, so I guess if it goes bad I have 18 months to grow it back out for when DH will be back home......and i will just buy a few more hats.....

Wish me luck......Now if only I didn't have a week and half to wait for the darn appt!

Growing up,my mother used to take all the girls to the hair dresser for pixie cuts, every few months. When I became old enough that it was my choice,I grew it long, but then went back to very short, for a long time.It has been mid back a few times, but I always end up back on the shorter side. For the past year,I have had it just above shoulder length, with lots of layers.I will never let it grow past my shoulders again.

I've been gunshy about my hair since around junior high. My Mom made me get cuts I didn't really want. After I left home, I was still leery. My ex was a marine, so we did move around. Each place I tried either screwed up my hair right at the start, or a few visits in.

The sad thing was, I never asked for anything complicated - just layered. No fancy schmancy style. Even perms they'd mess up because they didn't believe me when I said my hair took to them REALLY well. I'd rush home after every perm and wash my hair. It never made much of a difference, but I'd try anyway.

I haven't been to a salon in years. I have thinning shears so I thin my hair myself. I have hair cutting scissors, so I can keep the ends trimmed. But I'd love to find someplace to get it professionally cut and colored. I'm trying desperately to get away from dark auburn and it's HARD to do with box color.

Hopefully someday soon I'll get up the nerve!

At 50, I decided to let my hair grow. At 54, I had it cut and donated it to locks of love. That was the last hurrah for me. It just require too much effort to blow dry each morning when it's long. Shoulder length or shorter is my style from here on out!

I wore long hair all through my adolescent and teen years and had it cut short two weeks after high school graduation. Over the years it has been every color, and I do mean every, and many different styles. About 10 years ago I decided to grow it out again. Wore it mid back until a year or so ago. Now I try to keep it shoulder length.

Since I have officially fallen over the edge into my 50's I think it's time for something new. But after so long of the same ol', same ol' I am a little leery of changing styles.

Maybe if Mabear comes back and tells us all went well and she LOVES her new style it will be the push I need to give it a try.

So let us know Mabear, if it goes well.

Cheers to those of you that donate to Locks of Love.

Personally, I can't stand women with long hair that brag about how long it's been since they've had their hair trimmed. Duhhhhhhhh.....it looks horrible with all the friz and split ends. Long hair trimmed every 6 wks or so is beautiful. Also, proper conditioning is very important.

I've had shoulder length hair for quite some time. I have lots of body and wave. I had my hair shortened and layered to play up the wave. The back is terrific. However, my salon person couldn't get the sides right after about the second trim. So I'm persevering and growing out the layers plus I've recently started letting my bangs grow out also. Combed out straight, my bangs are about half way down my eyes. So , this is a work in progress. Ughhhh....being patient is hard.

Ugh! My appointment got cancelled, my stylist is out the whole week, she and her kids have the flu.....I'm wondering if this is a sign, that I'm not supposed to do it.......

I will reschedule, but the longer I wait the more I start doubt my decision......
