Okay, I am coming to my community to vent a little as I sit here on hold for FOREVER!!!! I was at the store and had just scored the most awesome deal on a pair of Coach shoes for $24 bucks. I went to use my debit card and got declined. Well, this was a shock to me since I keep pretty close tabs on my account. In the last 2 days someone has practically emptied our checking account! I immediately called my bank from the store while the clerk looked at me as if I was a slug. I am sure she didn't believe me. I was able to freeze all of our accounts until I could get home and take a look online. I was shocked!!! The bank is awesome and has immediately gone to work on the charges but asked me to also call one of the biggies --$600 to expedia.com. It seems some guy named Pete in Dublin (yes you heard it right) booked a ticket for himself. Now, I would love to know where this a--hole is trying to go on my hard earned money. He has a fondness for Itunes, electronic gaming and some other goodies that I don't even begin to know. I am just sooooooo ticked off. Expedia has had me on hold for one hour and 5 minutes trying to get to someone who can fix the problem. Oh my gosh -- no the guy is telling me this is a VALID charge!!! If I could reach through the phone I am quite certain I would choke someone. How can they say it is VALID when I AM THE CHARGECARD HOLDER AND I DIDN'T BOOK IT??????? There isn't enough prozac to fix this one!!! |

| Our bank account was comprimised as well so I think I know how you feel. Sucks. Don't let someone tell you some nonsense about a 'valid charge'. You know it wasn't. I bet he would not be feeling it was valid if someone named Pete charged a ticket on his account. ![]() By the way (and I know you have more pressing issues but I just gotta know) , $24 for some Coach shoes???? OhMyGoodness. How? Why? Where? Please tell me you were still able to get them (using another method of payment, of course).

Same thing happened to me, however it was with our credit card. Someone loved downloading games... WofW... And many others. There was about $500 in charges. One thing we do is NEVER use our debit card for online purchases. ALWAYS use the credit card, because we aren't liable for any unauthorized charges... I just keep a running total in Quicken for our credit card, so I know how much money I've spent... Call the police and get a police report as well, so your bank knows you are serious about his. I'm sorry this sucks for you and now when you should be enjoying the holidays you have to worry about this crap. Do you know how he could have gotten your info?

Okay, The saga continues --first of all -- I was wrong the shoes were $29 and I got them in Franklin, TN at a store called Marti & Liz. They have designer shoes at great prices. The good news is that the bank will have this fixed in a matter of days. I would suggest that NOBODY use Expedia -- they suck, service sucks and their people are outsourcers!! |

What a PITA! Our debit card number was used about a year ago. I guess they made a fake some how because it was used at an actual Walmart store in another state. They had charged up almost $1000.00. I immediately went to our credit union and filled out the paper work and they had our money back in our account that day. Boy was that scary! peapie |

I am sorry this happened, OP, but happy that it seems to be taken care of. Hope you got those shoes! I was fortunate that my fraud experience was limited to some charges for Skype and chase took care of them quickly. My husband had a fraud experience with Sprint - with whom he didn't even have an account but was getting all those free offers - someone charged several $1000s of dollars in phone calls from Florida and California to India. Um, we live in the Northeast.....don't have Sprint service. and don't know anyone living in India. Someone had called on one of the free cards and gotten a new pin from their customer service. Quite frankly, I have no idea how they got through to customer service. It tooks us hours of being on hold to find someone to talk to....we would put the phone on speaker and go about the day waiting for someone to answer. I would never do business with Sprint ever......oops, sorry, got a little carried away telling my story. cj/

I am feeling much better about the situation today. I know that today will be a better day! You guys will laugh, but one of my 1st thoughts after the initial shock was "oh no, how will I be able to shop on Black Friday!!!" Of course it will be straightened out before then. Yes, I did get the shoes! Marti and Liz has great shoes --AirborneArmyWife -- you have to go....they had some Prada, Coach and others by the register. I found Kate Spade in the aisles plus birkenstocks for less than 20 bucks if you need clogs. I am glad to know that there are other Mycouponers near me here. We are military as well - Air Force Thanks for letting me vent, this is why I love Mycoupons. |

This is really only my opinion, for what it's worth. Glad that you are feeling better and more glad that you got the shoes!!! |

Cuthie, I only use a credit card online. I don't use my debit card ever...too scary and too easy for someone to dump my bank account. At least with a credit card, I can cancel it, say it was fraud and I'm not out anything immediatly. If I use my debit card, I am out MY money and have to wait until it's resolved until I get it back. Nope...not for me. How scary all this fraud is! BTW: I didn't know Coach made shoes....

You know, the scary thing is that I am pretty sure that I have only used my credit card online. I usually only use the debit card for in person purchases. Needless to say, we are totally covered by the bank. I actually had this to happen about 13 years ago and my bank called me to see why my hubby would be ordering roses, chocolates & champagne when according to their records it wasn't my bday or anniversary. He was deployed at the time and I was pretty sure that he had no significant others (ha ha). The bank was so funny, how did they word it? Oh yes, uncharacteristic for my hubby's spending habits. I said "you got that right.....he's waaaayyyy to cheap for that". We got a big laugh out of it all when it was said and done. My poor DH felt bad that I had said that......I just told him that nobody knows you better than your banking institution and thank goodness they checked! We were, shall you say, frugal at the time since we were paying student loans and everything else. He really isn't cheap and actually does bring me flowers every so often for no occasion! |

Smurf, you speak to my feelings regarding the use of credit cards online... we won't even use our debit card offline! Sadly fraud is rampant... cashiers, waiters/waitresses, anywhere that takes cards have easy access to your card numbers every time you pay. It really does make you feel a little bit paranoid if you think about it too much. |
