funny...I don't see what crimes the children were convicted of.

I don't buy that children and teens have less culpability (as a general rule). Unfortunately, I have met some children that were psycho and/or socio- paths. And they knew exactly what they were doing and DEPENDED on the system to see them as "innocent" children who had bad home lives/were abused/were "troubled".

I guess the question should be why? Why does the US have so many children that need to be behind bars? Or are the other countries just too lenient ?

I think that this is the better question, and I don't know the answer.

I really dont think we are harsh enough on our kids........ Im an NOT saying that prison for life is for them either. but what are the other countires doing right that we are doing wrong??

I teach middle school, multiple handicap kids,,,, and the (normal) kids here are not the kind of kids I want at my dinner table........ It all goes back to the family, parents.

Or the lack of family/parents.

I would say that too many kids are not taught respect: Respect for themselves, respect for others, etc.
And those same kids are not taught that their actions have consequences. If it feels good do it, to heck with how it effects others mentality.

I agree. My kids are some of the few that say please and thank you THAT is sad! We have such a kid-centric attitude anymore and I hate it. Kids think they rule the world because we allow them to think so. Too many kids don't get a harsh enough punishment in my eyes. There is a lot of blame throwing and no accountability. Parents don't want their children to be punished at all...
