in home child care costs?

Anyone keep kids at their home? My neighbor asked if i would keep her son (same age as mine-2) for 2 days a week from 9-12:45. I think I will do it, but wondered what to charge her. She is currently paying daycare 600.00 a month for 5 days of 9-12, so I know she will be saving tons of money with me....but I want to make sure I don't end up asking too little and regretting it later.

any one have a thought?
Thanks!

It looks like she's currently paying just over $9 an hour for daycare. How low are you willing to go? You are taking on a huge responsibility and should be paid accordingly. Will she provide lunch/snacks for her son or will you? Are you going to be housebound for the hours that he is with you, or will she let you take him with you to run errands? What happens if you get sick or have to cancel -- will she pay anyway? Just a few things to think about. Good luck!

Will she provide lunch/snacks for her son or will you? I will feed him, although he is very picky and would prefer to starve than to eat normal food. She just said to give him the same thing I give my son, and if he doesn't eat it, she'll feed him when she picks him up.

What happens if you get sick or have to cancel -- will she pay anyway? nope...that is the bad part, and she runs late to most things I've done with her... and her kids are sick alot....

Just a few things to think about. Good luck!
Thanks so much for responding! I'm still trying to decide!

I say, ask enough that it is worth your while to do it. If she doesn't want to pay whatever it is worth to you, then fine. And if she does, then you won't feel put upon to do it.

I suggest charging a flat fee per month or week. Be sure to establish the "rules" before you start.
For example, It will be $X per week, 2 days from 9-1pm. If pick up is late, it will be $X extra. No refunds or discounts for early pick up or no show. If you are going to block out your time for them, you should be compensated. Of course, they should be allowed to prearrange no childcare without charge.

I also recommend, establishing a payday in the beginning so you know when you will get paid. And they know when they are expected to pay.

Good Luck!!

I know some advised me to charge $1/minute if late to pick up but the mom of the baby that I watched was NEVER ever late.

Best of luck with the decision. You sound like a very kind person to want to help her like this... Be sure that you do what you think will be best for you and your family.

I do in-home childcare.

I usually only do full-time but for drop-ins I charge a flat $4 per hour. That is paid for scheduled days regardless of whether they show up or not. I get paid on Mondays prior to care.

And, make sure you have written permission to take this kid with you if you go out. You'll need a contact form and a doctor's form so you have all that information in case something happens.

I would also use a contract just to be on the safe side.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
