How can a Parent do this to a 2 year old???

I just read this on CNN and want to know what did this adoreable 2yr old do so bad that caused her own mother and step-father to do this to her? I hear of child abuse stories daily because of my job and they all seem to bother me, especially the ones involving infants and toddlers. I hope that they place this mother and step-father with the general population in jail because they deserve anything that happends to them. I would also give this little girl's father and his family 5 min alone with the mother and step-father and so they could do to them what they did to his baby. That monster of a step-father took a baby's life then IMO knowing what he was going to be facing in jail tried to take the easy way out and overdose

Police: Mother describes beating of 2-year-old, hiding her body

(CNN) -- Before dying, 2-year-old Riley Ann Sawyers was beaten with belts, picked up by her hair, thrown across the room and held under water, according to an affidavit from the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

Police believe 2-year-old Riley Ann Sawyers is "Baby Grace."
The affidavit says the girl's mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, described to police how her daughter died and was put in a plastic storage box that Trenor and her husband, Royce Zeigler, later dumped into a Galveston waterway.

Trenor told police Zeigler tried to commit suicide the weekend before Thanksgiving, and wrote a note that said, "My wife is innocent of the sins that I committed."

The body of the then-unidentified toddler was found on October 29. A fisherman found Riley's body stuffed inside a blue storage container that washed up on an uninhabited island in Galveston's West Bay.

A medical examiner said the child's skull was fractured, and a forensic dentist estimated her age at 2 to 3 years.

Police dubbed the child "Baby Grace." A police artist's sketch of her was widely circulated in the news media and prompted a call to Galveston police from Riley's grandmother in Ohio, who had not seen the girl in months.

On Saturday, police arrested Trenor and Zeigler on charges of injuring a child and tampering with physical evidence, the sheriff's department said. Their bonds were set at $350,000 each.

The affidavit, obtained by CNN, says when police interviewed Trenor on November 23, she "gave a voluntary statement on video with her attorney present in which she describes her involvement, with Royce Zeigler, in the physical abuse, death and disposal of the remains of her daughter, Riley Ann Sawyers."

Trenor's statement said on July 24, she and Zeigler both beat the child with leather belts and held her head under water in the bathtub. She said Zeigler picked the girl up by her hair and also threw her across the room, slamming her head into the tile floor.

After her daughter died, Trenor's statement said, she and Zeigler went to a Wal-Mart that night and bought the Sterilite container, a shovel, concrete mix, and other supplies.

The statement said the box containing the child's body was hidden in a storage shed for "one to two months." Then, Trenor said, she and Zeigler carried it to the Galveston Causeway and tossed it in, and she saw it drifting away.

Riley Ann's father, Robert Sawyers, on Monday tearfully remembered her as a "fun-loving girl ... with a big imagination." Watch Riley Ann's father describe the little girl »

Riley was "very active, very hyper, but also very well-behaved," Sawyers told reporters in Mentor, Ohio.

Robert Sawyers' mother, Sheryl Sawyers, said the family was "devastated" to learn that police believe Riley is dead.

"It's hard to think that I'll never see her again," she said, clutching a red Elmo doll she had planned to give Riley for Christmas.

Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo of the Galveston County Sheriff's Department said Monday that authorities are "fairly confident" that the toddler whose body was found on October 29 is Riley Ann Sawyers.

DNA analysis is still in progress to confirm the identification. The results will be available in two to three weeks, Tuttoilmondo said.

Tuttoilmondo said Riley is originally from Mentor, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb, and that "she and her mother came down to Texas earlier this year."

The toddler was last seen in Texas "three or four months ago," Tuttoilmondo said, although he did not know by whom.

Tuttoilmondo said police did investigate whether Child Protective Services had taken Riley away, something the mother had reportedly alleged. Of that report, Tuttoilmondo said, "What we believe is that is not what happened."

The affidavit said Trenor admitted that after the body was found, Zeigler had her type up a fake letter from the Ohio Department of Children's Services saying that Riley was to be taken away.

Trenor left Ohio in late May, after filing an allegation of domestic violence against Robert Sawyers and reaching a joint voluntary agreement that gave her custody of Riley and gave Robert Sawyers visitation rights, the Sawyers' family lawyer said Monday.

"She disappeared," Laura DePledge said Monday at the Ohio news conference with the Sawyers.

Sheryl Sawyers said Monday that she saw widely distributed police sketches of "Baby Grace" and contacted Galveston police in November. The girl in the police sketches strongly resembles photos of Riley.

"No, I never did think it would end up like this," Sheryl Sawyers said Monday, eyes welling. "I guess knowing is better than not knowing."

The girl's family in Ohio has been "very helpful" in this case, Tuttoilmondo said, adding that the FBI and a Galveston County police officer visited the family in Ohio on Sunday.

DePledge said Riley was the product of a "teenage pregnancy." Trenor and Robert Sawyers were together for two years as a result of the pregnancy, DePledge said, during which time they lived with Sheryl Sawyers.

DePledge said Monday that the family, whose grief she described as "simply overwhelming," wants Riley's body returned to Ohio for a memorial service. "What Riley needs is to be brought home," she said. "I think this family needs some closure."

Tuttoilmondo asked anyone who knew the child or her family to help detectives reconstruct the events of Riley's short life.

The toddler's case has touched even hardened police officers, he said. "Any way you look at it, we carry a piece of her with us, and we'll always carry a little piece of her with us," he said Monday.

He held up a small, pink-and-white shoe identical to those the child was wearing when she was found. "That says it all. A little-bitty shoe." E-mail to a friend

All I can say is that is sad. What is wrong with this world??
I dont mean for the parents. they will spend the rest of their lifes in prison isolated. I guess they deserve that, if they were to be put in circulation , they might get the same back........ What comes around goes around!

This has been all over our local news too(Texas) It makes me sick everytime I hear it.......

They need to have a special place where people who do these type of things can suffer through the same crimes they committeed. I'm not normally a vindictive person, but this was a little girl who couldn't fight back....

My heart bleeds for the Sawyer family. I just simply cannot believe someone could do this to a defenseless child. Sick.

I read in the local paper (since Mentor is only 15 minutes from here) that the Grandmother and father never suspected that the 2 year old being talked about was their daughter/granddaughter. The pictures of the two brought tears to my eyes.

THERE IS Ballmom. I truly believe this in my Heart.

I have been following this on MSN also, I thought from the moment I read the parents reported her missing and then told the Father's Family she was taken by CPA there wasnt something right about this.

What I don't understand tho, Is WHY the Bio- Father never followed up with the Police about his Missing 2 yo, I'm a FAR cry from being a *Perfect* Parent, But I do know, If my EX told me our child was missing and then said she was taken by CPA, I would be on the heels of that CPA office trying to gain custody of my child, Or at least find out what the heck happen to make them take her from the Mom KWIM ??

Very sad ending. Heaven has a special little angel now and she's in peace. I'm sure her life on earth was a living hell.

Amen to that - also why wasn't the grandmother trying to find out where her grandchild was? I know if that happened in my family that my mother would be down there in a second to find out where the grandchild was.

Abuse probe leads to baby’s skeleton | The Journal Gazette

Abuse probe leads to baby’s skeleton
Detroit couple accused of scalding 2nd boy, 1

DETROIT – Police investigating the apparent abuse of a 1-year-old boy say they found the skeletal remains of his baby brother concealed in the ceiling of a home.

The boys’ parents, 24-year-old Nickella Reid and 27-year-old Joseph Miller, were arrested Friday after Reid took her year-old son to the hospital with burns. She said he was scalded the day before Thanksgiving by Miller, her boyfriend.

The couple were arraigned Saturday on first- and second-degree child abuse charges. They were jailed on bonds of $700,000 for Miller and $400,000 for Reid, authorities said.

The name of the injured boy was not released.

Reid told police that Miller killed another son, Deante Miller, in March 2006. Miller claimed he died of natural causes and denied scalding the younger boy, authorities said.

Authorities say the couple burned Deante’s body in a barbecue grill – to save on funeral costs, they claimed – and hid what was left of the remains in the ceiling of a home once occupied by Miller’s sister.

The decision whether to charge the couple in Deante’s death will be based on the investigation, Wayne County assistant prosecutor Maria Miller said.

A forensic expert will examine the remains, she said.

She said that the surviving boy was severely abused, with burns over one-third of his body. He was listed in fair condition at a Children’s Hospital of Michigan, authorities said.

Reid’s four other children were placed in foster care, authorities said.

Those poor kids, I hope that they will be ok. In the baby Riley case, i read that they are keeping the step-father in solitary for his safety, that IMO is wrong. They should let him get what is comming to him, Baby Riley had no one to protect her. It also said that the mother is pregnant and also her family is saying that she couldn't have done it. but they also said that when they would call and ask to talk to Riley the mother would give excuses to why she couldn't talk on the phone.

I guess if I live to be 100 I will never understand how this could ever even take place. My little baby boy is 14 months old, and I hate it when he he falls or anything. How could these animals inflict pain on this INNOCENT little baby? So defenseless. What is this sick world coming to? Then "protect" the idiot when he goes to jail? Who protected her?

Thats just it Ballmom.
they are ANIMALS with out emotions or feelings. I just want to VOMIT when I read reports like these.
WHO THE HELL PROTECTED these babies ??? OMG Only in AMERICA do we give MORE rights to the sick perverted wackos than the victims ! It wouldn't do me to ever be a jailer or a judge or do that matter a parent of a victim, God I already know what I would do. I remember the case of the boy that was kidnapped and taken to CAL his Father waited at the phone till this man passed by him, he ran up and shot him in the head. I have NOTHING but praises for this Father , he did what ever parent of a child that becomes a victim wants to do.. I thought they should have given him a metal instead of jail time..
The only thing that gets me Thu reading things like this , is to know that child/ baby living hell is over and they are at peace where no one can harm them again.
There is a SPECIAL Place in Hell for people like this. Satan is awaiting them.

Off-topic, but "Reid’s four other children were placed in foster care, authorities said." 5 children and only 24 years old. Some people really need to be sterilized. There's better ways to spend my tax dollars than allowing people to have children who can seem to care for them.

The GRandmother and Father are on or going to be on the Today show today I think I may have missed it.

Some people do cruel things to kids and I dont think I will ever understand why

This poor little 2 yr old did not deserve any of this and I just cant understand why no-one reported her missing.

That's funny you said that - because I have the perception that the majority of these horrible stories come from Ohio.....and it actually jumped out at me that they said the mom moved to Texas from the Cleveland area.....

I have a few questions about this case... Yes it is TERRIBLE what has happened to this baby. That is disgusting HOWEVER why did the grandmother and father , here in Ohio do NOTHING to try to find this baby when she all the sudden went missing... I am just disturbed by people who all the sudden want to be in the spotlight but gave 2 ****s about the child before...

I read that they had been trying to see her but the mother told them that the child had been taken away...so the grandparents didn't know where she was. Not an excuse, but that's what I read.

I had read that too......but I'm thinking if your really care, you'd get your butt down to Texas and fight for your kid (grandkid). I find it sad that they just accepted that the child was in CPS hands. How on earth would that be ok?
