| You think you had a bad day?
Well it has been one He** of a day for me! My autistic child came to school today with NO meds, ate candy for breakfast, and had Gatorade, wooopieeeeeee we had fun..... hanging from the walls, running up the walls......... throwing chairs. I am in no frame of mind to put up with any child today............ THEN...... the rest of the class proceeded to chime in , we ain't working,,, its noisy etc......... ! I called his case worker , she came in and wammo........ he laughed at her....lol It really wasn't funny at the time, but I think back on it now and it is..........he is so loving This child is being raised by his grandparents , because his real parents are unfit. They are doing their best to raise the grandkids, but this one is a tricky one. He actually is a very nice child, and knows once he comes down there will be He** to pay at school....... he gets mad at himself for acting like that . I took his free time off him today nintendo (DS) and explained that we do not act like that in school. He understood but was upset once the 10:00 a.m. meds I gave him took effect. Well he was fine until about 1:30 did his work (tried) and I understood, and then he sneaked his D.S and was playing........ oops! needless to say, he had to be physically(gently) taken out of the classroom by the principal. He was not a happy camper and I felt bad, usually he is sooooooo good, once in a while we have bad days..... but today was a doozy tomorrow will be another story, he will feel bad, at himself for his behavior, do his work and not get into any trouble..... But he will want to play his DS for an hour, which I told him he could not tomorrow. I am prepared for another day, but unable to take a week of this plus 10 other kids in the room. I have many kids with different disabilities in my class and he is the hardest but the smartest child I have. Just so that you understand. I love my kids at school.....but sometimes enough is enough! I mean no wrong doings to the mothers and kids of the challenged world. I say that because my son is short term memory and dyslexia , he calls himself challenged by the real world. I know how the family's feel I just had to voice my bad day....... my hubby is hunting for the week and my teenagers don't really care lol... they have their own lives .

MY DD is a Para-educator and works with autistic kids. She has had no formal training or education in this field but does a great job according to the teachers at her school. She has been bitten, kicked and had many, many things thrown at her. No to mention the verbal "abuse", etc. I don't think I could ever do that job and remain sane and I admire those of you who do this job! God Bless All of You!

LOL..Thank You! Reading this post reminded me that I had forgot to tell L to give Daniel his 4 O'clock meds..we have been so busy cleaning and putting up the tree that we forgot and she is new trying to get used to his med schedule.. I have been guilty of sending Daniel to school without his meds on a bad morning I have forgot..*but* I have a safety net...lol..someone close to the school always has his morning dose to run there if I forget.. Kudos to you for what you do...

Thanks guys, I just needed to spout off about my day to someone, was expecting to be flamed in what I had said, but the parents here with children with disability's , ya know what I meant! As I was typing my first post, I was thinking that my life isn't so bad compared to these kids and family's. Yes I have my hard times but not as bad as these kids. My hard times will get better, ( I hope) their thinking and rationalization skills may not. but what is wrong with the world that we have to back stab our friends,we don't respect others thoughts and feelings, write awful posts back to others? Yes I am guilty, but I was trying to make a point..... (other post's) I guess it didn't get made. I am trying to be the best Mother, wife, teacher and friend to all. If I can't take one day out of my life and reflect back on all the good things and the bad things that have happened , then what kind of a person am I ? All I'm trying to say..... is let's be nice and Have a great rest of the year here on MC.... we deserve it! I am an educator and That is what I was put here to do. ....Karrie

Whoo- that does sound like a doozy of a day! I dread the days the kids forget (or the parents forget) meds. I had a bi-polar child a few years ago who literally lost it in my room. She started hearing "voices" telling her to hurt me. Thank goodness her mother came to get her around that time. It is funny you mention looking at a students picture. I look back at the year I had 3 Michaels in my room (yes, 3). It was crazy! Makes my day where a child yelled smarta** in the middle of a lesson not seem so bad. |

Yikes, what a day for you. I think I would have had to lace the 10am meds w/ a bit of Benadryl...just kidding! Or am I? lol...Hope tomorrow settles down for you a bit. There are not a lot of ppl who could do what you do, day in and day out. It must be a labor of love-kudos to you!

Yes, those kind of things can happen at home, but the parents or the caregivers are there with them. there are not 10 other kids there either. Who have problems and when one starts the others chime in and start..... Its hard enough to get one child under control but 10. Try it and then you come back and tell me what kind of day you had. I have kids who hear voices all day, one that is in a wheelchair (who is unable to defend himself), 3 that have aspergers, one that is there because his mother thinks he needs to be, which he does not. A child who wants to kill himself and listens to acid rock crap (parent let him) and wants to do what the lyrics say , kill everyone, thinks his life sucks, and wants me to flunk him so he can stay in middle school his whole life cause his dad quit school. A tourette child ,who no one wants in is class, because he makes alot of noise. 3 other severely Autistic kids. And lastly One who refuse to speak until this year....... He is doing wonderfully, hard to understand but I got him talking. And ....... I am getting 4 deaf students sometime this year. That will be fun, fun , fun.. Remember this is one classroom........ with 3 different grades in it. Beside talking to my hearing kids I will have to sign at the same time, keep 10 eyes on the room and smile all day long. I did not post my initial post, to be emailed nasty thoughts, or P.M'd . "its my job deal with it " Yes, it is my job and yes I am dealing with it everyday, EVERYDAY is a new day in my life. These kids just need someone to care and make sure they are safe and happy at school. Im sure one day in the lives of the people who have mailed me, you have said to yourself.........WHAT AM I DOING HERE? Even with your own kids. I am sure that one day you have thrown your hand up and said "WHY", I've done the same thing when my child cried all day or all hell broke loose in my house. NO ONE is perfect , and I'm tired of the " all mighty am I , or I'm better then you people, or I can out do your posts" Some of you need to walk in our shoes one day and then you can pass judgment! I just needed to vent and wanted an outlet........I will not be a whipping post for all of you to enjoy and get your rocks off with emails and p.m.'s . I see why we have members leaving these boards. Its hard enough being a mod here (we don't get paid) , but to be a member and be harassed is unspeakable. "For those of you that have mailed or PM's me, I have the mails and I will be keeping them. Go ahead and make a mistake on these boards, everything will come back and haunt you!

IrishBlonde... keep up the good job. What an unforgiving job but I am sure that it has many rewards for someone who is good at it. I do a lot of subbing but won't work in a middle school much less a special needs middle school classroom. Kudos to you! and hugs too. I hope that today goes/went better... |

WOW I am surprised you are getting slammed..bet none are the special needs parents on this board unless they are pretending to be...cripes..I have help at home and still end up in the hair pulling what the H am I doing who thought I could do this job this is not the life I ordered funks all the time... To those who are slamming you..bet they are not card carrying members of this elite group we find ourselves in..my teachers/therapists etc. have always been able to vent to me about their jobs and MY kids...it is all part of the package IMHO.. I will be the first to say I am no Saint...and I have NEVER ran into anyone who is in the job you do claiming to be there because of that or ha ha the money.... They just need to get over their bad selves..however this board has always been famous for snarks/and trolls and those who think they know how the world should be in their narrow little minds. Nuff Said

My hats off to ALL teachers! I'm soooo thankful for teachers,it's a job that not all of us can do.So to those who do,Thank You. For not only teaching our children, but caring. I'm sure that if you look back to the time you spent in school there is at least one teacher you remember. Maybe they touched your life and helped you along the way. I know they did for me. So again "Thank You" .

Holly Cow !!, I can see my son doing this one day also. I hope it never happens and I''m careful of where my keys are most of the time. But He has no fear factor at all. ![]() So glad he wasn't hurt or anyone got hurt.. I bet his Grandfather was having fits over where grandson may of been. I would have been scared out my mind !!! The Police Officers were really nice when talking to this child . Its good to see they took that kind of attitude.

I can only imagine where this would have gone if they has started yelling at the child. I'm like you, my keys are always put up, my DS has no fear either, and that can be difficult at times Onlly problem is sometimes I put my keys up to well, and I can't find 'em

Thanks everyone, yes I did have some not to nice emails. but hey....... I'm over it now. I went to school my class was back to somewhat order. the boy who was taken out of the class yesteday, spent the day with the principal.... He has to learn that we do not act like that and the rest of the class needed to know what would happen to them also. My autistic child was not happy, but came to school , knowing what he did was wrong..... looked like a lost puppy. He know;s what he did, but told me he couldnt stop his brain and body from doing that.......Wow, I believe that!. This child does not know how to lie! This was out of the normal routine for him and I knew it was killing him to be with the principal all day. He spent the day under the desk in his make shift habitat. BUT. he did all his work I couldnt ask for anything else. For those of you who have children and are dealing with this day in and day out, NIGHTS too. 7 days a week , My hats off to you. I have every respect for you and what you do. Thanks KarrieP.S. that video was great!.... the Troopers handleded that sooooooooo nice

omg, I can't believe that! And the cops seemed to think it was funny? It's amazing no one was killed. |

Linnybop I don't think they thought it was *Funny* but more relieved no one including the boy was hurt or killed. I'm sure the Grandfather had already told them the boy has Autism. This happen because the child has Mental Issues and More than likely No Fear Factor. My son has NONE. Don't mean to come down on you, But your post seems to make one believe the police were having a ball, joking around thinking it was too funny. I'm sure their laugher was from relieve from knowing hes stopped and all is well. Have you never laughed with relieve after learning all is well ??? I know I have many times, after the shock wore off.
