Ok, now that the kids are leaving for the day, I can actually talk..,,,,,,, Yes My sister had the Endometrial Ablation done. She is glad that she did. She had heavy periods and alot of cramping...... All it does it take the uterine lining out, but does not give a hysterectomy. You will may not have a period. She was back to work in a few days. I think after 5 years she is finally getting her periods. they are very light and spotty..... After an endometrial ablation, younger women are more likely to continue to have periods and need a repeat procedure. In her case she did not have her periods. I wish I had this 16 years ago instead of going thru a total hysterectomy like I did. Oh well. I never need to worry about getting preggos again.... ! Do not consider this procedure if you plan to become pregnant in the future. this surgery usually causes sterility by destroying the lining of the uterus, pregnancy may still be possible if a small part of the endometrium is left in place. I would ask the DR. what he is leaving and if you can become Pregnant

Good luck!

You might want to check out Hysterectomy Support Discussions, Before Hysterectomy, After Hysterectomy, Recovery - HysterSisters There is a message board about alternatives to hysterectomy on the site. When I had my hysterectomy I found hystersisters to be a really helpful website.

I had it done in April becuase of heavy periods. It was a very easy procedure for me! I stayed awake for it and just felt slight discomfort for about 30 seconds during it. I was tired the rest of the day, but was back to normal the next day. I still have periods, but very light now and some months only one day with a panty liner! Last month, I didn't have one............supposed to start any day now and and am hoping I won't My biggest complaint was the cost......our insurance stinks and I ended up paying $1600 between the hospital and the doctor

Everything went very smoothly. I'm still tired from the general anesthesia, and a bit crampy, but nothing Tylenol won't handle. Some minor bleeding, etc.

I can resume normal activity tomorrow, but no sex for at least a week until I see the Dr.

My coworker had it done a while back due to heavy periods that were coming every 1.5 weeks. She was told this would stop them, but it has not. She was not told by her dr before the procedure that it doesn't work for everyone, and after she had it and called her dr to say that she was bleeding again was simply told it doesn't work for everyone, I changed depts now and don't really talk to her as much anymore so not sure what is going on with it now. She was very crampy for 2 days after.

My Dr. said it eliminates periods in about 50% of women, for the others it usually reduces them significantly, but everyone is different. Some women have large fibroids which can cause heavy bleeding and I think treatment is different for them.
