Do you IceSkate?

Our Community center put up a synthetic Ice rink in the middle of their parking lot. So you can skate outside in the 70 degree weather......

Do you IceSkate? I haven't been in years, and I was thinking of taking some of the kids, but I don't want to come home with any broken bones.... Is it like riding a bike (you never forget) or should I get some help? When I say years I'm talking like 13 years since the last time I had a pair of skates on my feet......

I used to skate and I KNOW I couldn't do it now!
DH tried it after many years of not skating and was very surprised that he was so bad after being quite good in his youth.
If you are still fairly young and in good shape, you will probably be able to at least stay upright!
I am just too old, fat, and out of shape!
But I'd go for it.........you'll never know until you try!
Good luck and have fun!!!

I was born and raised in Fl. Up until I moved here I had never really seen snow or Ice. When I moved here I was all gun ho to try all the things I never got to do living in FL. Skiing, ice skating, snowman making all that cool stuff.

So my DH decides to take me ice skating one day. I was so excited. We went to store and I bought these really cool skates, some warm clothes and a couple of ski hats to wear because we were going skating outside and I still hadn't acclimated to the cold weather yet.

I get my skates on DH helps me on the ice and off I go. Woohoo this isn't so hard. I skated around for about 15-20 mins slowly when DH says to me your doing great how about going a little faster. Me with my new found confidence speeds up and I hit something lost my footing and regained it so I was ok. Skate around a minute or 2 more hit a rough patch both feet flew out from under me and I fell backwards. I remember my head hitting the ice and bouncing like a ball before I must have passed out. Next thing I remember is a crowd of people staring down at me. I crawled to the shore because I was afraid to stand up on those skates again. DH put me in the truck and we went home. I was so sleepy and soooo sick DH took me to the Dr. by the time I got to the Dr. both of my eyes were black. I had hit my head so hard on the ice that my brain bounced and blackend my eyes. My Dr. said I was lucky I had those thick hats on because it actually cushioned my head some or my injury could have been worse.

So needless to say I have not been Ice Skating since.

I tried to take the girls last year, and it was a disaster. I could barely stand up on skates, let alone help them.

Yes, I ice skate, but I prefer rollerblading/rollerskating better. I've skated since I was a kid and I'm pretty good at it if I must say so myself! At one time when I was about nine years old I wanted to be one of those roller derby girls! My Mom actually took me as a kid to see the Philadelphia Warriors in action! I have a difficult time stopping on ice skates and a fall on the ice is much scarier and harder than a fall on the wood floor. Go ahead and try it...you may love it! It's definitely great exercise! Have fun! ~Lisa

We have a farm pond on our property, so once it freezes we can skate whenever we want. Last winter we got mostly freezing rain, so the ice was a mess as far as being able to ice skate. This year we are hoping for better weather. From what I hear.....Monday we are in for a big snowstorm here in Maine.

Not voluntarily. I just remember my feet being so cold they were somehow very painful, but numb at the same time, and the constant fear of falling. At least rollerskating's a lot warmer.

The kids were all ready to go, and now it's raining.....and they are calling for rain tommorow too......
I hope we get better weather next weekend. I hate to get the kids excited about something and then have us not be able to do it......
