For me, it's our commisaries. We have two and they are always crowded, and the people are so rude. Plus they don't save us any money. I have not used our commisaries for the past 3 years. Ft. Hood has two. We have 3 Wal-Marts in the area. I refuse to go to the one in Killeen, but I love the one in next town over, which is just as close to us.....Killeen, is like the one you mentioned, but I find the other one to be the total opposite and love it. Everyone is so nice and helpful.

Oh, I thought of another one....Best Buy. So many sales associates, so little time for customers....LOL. And the smell in there burns my eyes. They told me it's the stuff they used to clean the floors. Hello....your store stinks in a way that turns away customers! I guess I feel like venting today! ![]() cj/

Albertson's grocery! they closed most of them, but there is one very close to my house that is still open - but I refuse to shop there - people are rude, I don't like the produce, they're always out of advertised items....

One of the local Dollar General. I go to a different one when I am in the area. THe one closest to me looks like they just brought all the boxes in off the truck, opened them and left them sitting in the isles. You cant get a shopping cart down the isles.

Walmart. Our Walmart is awful. I used to like it fine, but I think it changed management. Every time I'm in there now someone is arguing and asking for a manager. And the manager is just as bad as the employees at handling situations. The Walmart one town over is much, much better. Also K-Mart. It used to be OK for some things. But, now it's awful. They never have the things they have advertised that got you to go to the store in the first place, and no one knows what you're talking about when you try to ask about it. An they never have more than 1 register open. One time recently, a little girl -- probably only about 5 -- behind me in line said to her Mom, "Why do they only have 1 lane open?" Lots of employees were wandering around, but only 1 cashier. Then there's the time I spent almost an hour of waiting while they tried to find the stock in the back of a "1-day only special," only to find out they either didn't ever have any or couldn't find it. An HOUR!!! (And I couldn't get too mad because the employees that time were at least being nice). |

| Wow CJ, timely subject for me. My sweetie just had to endure this rant because he drug me to KMart for one of their T-day doorbusters. I tried to tell him on the way there that it was a mistake and a BIG waste of time but, oh no, he knew better. Of course we couldn't find an employee that knew where anything in the advertisement was or how to find it. And they then look at you like you have two heads and are speaking Martian if you try to press them to do their job. Like the above poster, we spent way too long while an apathetic employee sighed and shuffled and couldn't get a clue. And we left without the item we went to buy. So my sweetie had the drive home to listen to me reasonably(yeah, right ) explain why I hadn't been in KMart for over 4 years. Needless to say for him it was a long ride home. Any store that I leave angry gets put out of my shopping circle. I will usually give them a second chance but if they fail I'm done. PS: the Dollar General in our area always looks like a bomb went off it it. Too much hassle to look for anything.

Mine are Best Buy....customer service bites. Toys R Us....I think they are way over priced. Pier 1 Imports, I love their stuff, but the store is always so messy, you can barely walk down an aisle and if you make it down an aisle you are worried you are going to knock a whole display over....plus they are over priced~but occasionally have good sales.

We have two Aldi's one is closer to my house the other is quite a drive. I cant stand going to the one closer to my house. I have actually mystery shopped at this store and told them how dingy it is. They never have enough workers there. One in the back and one running the cash register. The Aldi's further from me seems clean and has more workers but in both stores the cashiers are always rushing the checkout lines! Im standing there trying to get the items in the shopping carts! I just cant keep up with them. I know in the past they used to throw..yes throw the items in the shopping carts but now the customer has to do it. |

I love Dicks Sporting Goods - here they're awesome. I hate KMart - haven't been to one in probably 6-7 years. I also hate Lowe's & Home Depot - never anyone to help, if you do find someone they have no idea what the answer is. WalMart is ok sometimes. I tend to go after I drop the girls off at school and the employees are restocking. They're always boxes and carts in the way and the employees are so disgruntled about everything always complaining about work and their lives. I get depressed walking through the departments. Lisa

I agree with everyone who said KMart. I forgot about that one because I haven't set foot in one for many years. The original reason was because they never had anythign they advertised. I HATE going somewhere to get a flyer item and having the clerks be completely unfamiliar with what is on special and being totally inept at helping customers find items. Grrr.... cj/

Why does it matter what language the other customers are speaking?! Have you never left this country? I don't mean that rude, but that's the only reason I can imagine why it would make you uncomfortable. To answer the question: WalMart - Same reasons as everyone else, except I don't care what language the other customers speak Lowe's - Got ripped off by them the first and last time I shopped there Best Buy - I think they hate women. I was in there once at the customer service desk and they wouldn't help me. A guy walked in and they were all over him. In general I try to avoid chain stores and chain restaurants because I don't want to see the locally owned businesses that actually provide customer service get pushed out. |

Yes, I have been outside the US to several countries where English was not the primary language. It doesn't bother me at all to be surrounded by people speakign a foreign (to me) language in a non-English speaking country, that's what I expect. Here, I expect to have at least some of the people around me speaking English, as that is the primary language in this country. I personally find it uncomfortable to have all the people in a retail store jabbering loudly and yelling at their children in foreign languages. I was once in a car accident with a family who spoke English to the police officer, but used another language when they were speaking amongst themselves and working on their "story". (Sorry, but when you make a left hand turn in front of someone, you are in the wrong! ) Perhaps that has something to do with my discomfort, otherwise maybe I have some sort of problem or issues, but that's the way I feel. But rest assured, I am well-traveled. ![]() cj/

Both my local Target & Mervyn's have EMPLOYEES who don't speak English (and I don't mean they speak broken English ~ I mean speak NO English whatsoever). It is very, very frustrating when you need to ask a question and have to hunt for an English speaking employee. This has happened to me more than once.

My least favorite stores are Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Best Buy. I just can't take Wal-Mart. It's too big, disorganized and the other shoppers drive me nuts. I am always there with people who go through the store, load up their buggies, and then pick out a few things to actually buy and leave the rest at the check-out. I just don't understand what is with that!?!! If you don't want to buy it, don't put it in your buggie. I'm not talking one or two items -- hey, I've changed my mind on an item or two before, but not a whole buggie full. I only go to Wal-Mart if I need something no one else sells. There are a few things like that and when I go, I buy a ton so I don't have to go back any time soon <lol>. We also don't like Best Buy because of their general lack of customer service. Their return policy stinks and it is next to impossible to get anyone to help you in that store. There is a brand new Best Buy near me which has only been open for a month. I must say the employees in there are way too friendly. I must have been asked by 8 people if they could help me when I was in there. I'm sure that won't last, however. I haven't shopped at K-Mart in probably 5 years -- maybe they are better now, but I doubt it. I had to wear K-Mart sneakers as a child, maybe that scarred me for life <lol>. Sarah.......mom to Jason & Devin |

| I was asking the person who felt uncomfortable being in a store where the other customers spoke a foreign language, not where the employees didn't speak English. I've never been in a store in the US where the employees didn't speak English. (Well, maybe in Chinatown, but not a chain store like Walmart.)

I can't think of any one store I would refuse to shop at. So far anyway! About English-it's our primary language so speak it!!! I would never travel outside of the US and expect them to cater to my language so why are we supposed to cater to them? You live here, you learn the language. Seems simple to me. It would annoy me also to go into a store where they weren't speaking English. |

I won't shop Kohls anymore. There clothing shrinks worse than anything I have ever bought. The store is always messy, racks are so stuffed there is always more merchandise on the floor than the racks. The rest of the clothes are in the fitting rooms on the floors. I feel like I am shopping in someones closet. I haven't been in a Walmart for over 10 years now. I hate how they come into a town, bully their way into tax breaks and rezoning. Kmart? Not ever. Dirty, dirty dirty

KMart is awful ! Reminds me of shopping in a high school for some reason. My kroger here constantly runs out of advertised sales..

I avoid Walmart & Kmart like the plague. Have shopped there probably 3 times in 5 years. Messy, cluttered, employees who barely speak English.. always 25 checkout lanes, but only 2 are open with about a dozen people in each line. At Kmart it's actually more annoying, because things ring up wrong and then it takes 15 minutes until the sixth Kmart person called over by the cashier figures out how to fix that price that is ringing up $3 instead of $1 or $2. Totally not worth it.

I don't really like K-Mart either. Our employees hide in the back, and there is no one around to check people out, or if you need help. Our Walmarts aren't that bad, but I hate our Target. It is so small, and has zero selection. The workers hoard clearance, and shop on the clock (while bragging about how they already got all of the good deals). Just yesterday, my dh bought a video game item that had gone 75% off, and the workers were upset they hadn't found it first (seriously- they were saying they would have already hid it if they knew it was on clearance). The managers don't care (they have been working there as long as I have lived here), and corporate doesn't either. Our Tuesday Morning is gross too, as are the Family Dollars, Big Lots, and Dollar Generals. Our Aldi's is always clean and nice. |

Best Buy. We bought a fridge from them with the extended warranty. To make a long story short, the fridge had issues...we went three weeks without a fridge waiting for it to be repaired...then we thought our problem was solved it broke down again and we had to wait another three weeks to get it repaired again. A total of six weeks without a fridge, and we battled with their customer service on a daily basis, and they lied more than they told the truth! It was horrible and I refuse to have aynthing to do with that store ever again...

| I have to say Walmart is my BIG #1 place I hate to go, my 2nd would be Kmart, there usually a mess & rude people who work there & no matter what time it is there's always a long line to wait in.. I work at Target now & will of course only shop there from now on...gotta love the employee discount. Every dollar store I have ever been in the Central FL area is always a big mess too. |

Ok, now for the OP's ??? Around this time of year, I hate almost ALL stores....but, that aside, I do not shop at Wal-Mart. I prefer to enjoy my shopping experience, and when shopping at Wal-mart that just doesn't happen. From the moment I pull into the parking lot, it is awful. I think they have such a high volume of customers that they don't have time to clean or something, but, there is always a lot of trash in the parking lot, and then when you step in the store, OMG.......I literally have an anxiety attack from all the CLUTTER everywhere. Another one I don't care for is Dollar General. The majority of their employees are rude and ignorant. Not ALL, but , the majority of what I have encountered. K-mart is also on my list. They never have enough registers open, and again, the majority of the employees are rude and ignorant. Coming in close is Hobby Lobby. They also NEVER have enuf registers open, NEVER. They don't have scanners to scan when you buy something, so you have to hope your cashier knows what is on sale, most of their items come from China, and they are closed on Sundays. Hands down they have the best variety I have seen, tho. Where has customer service gone????

| I felt this way when we lived in Hawaii!! OMG!!!! We had, let's see......three, no four. Yes, four, and they were always crowded, and the dam locals....OMG, don't EVEN get me started. However, we had to shop there, shopping out in town was WAY too much money. I don't know how locals do it, unless they are getting some kind of subsidies or something. Actually, I take that back......I have seen MANY of them go in with the service member's dependants and shop at the commissary....a big no no, however, they tend to turn a blind eye to it there. I was even told this by one of the workers there. And the baggers that spoke tagalog.....OMG!!!! They were not supposed to, but, would. How rude is that???? Not because they couldn't speak English, they would speak tagalog when they wanted you to not know what they were talking about. One time they had their "case lot" sale. The parking lot was lined up with people 2 hours before the store opened, must have been 200 people, no kidding. Just very "uggghhh" shopping the commissaries over there.

Walmart and Sams Club (because it's owned by Walmart). See my tag line It would take DAYS to tell you why I hate WM so much. Lots of things....too many to list. I don't dislike those who shop at WM but I really hate when someone says "I shop there because it's the cheapest". To me, that is totally what is wrong with America. We complain about the bad wages, the jobs being forced overseas, the crap from China and yet we'll shop at WM....things that make you go "hmmmmmm"

I don't like to shop at Schnucks's because of the hassle they give couponers. They advertise unlimited double coupons and then limit you to 3 like coupons. My couponer friend went in with her husband and they wouldn't even let each one use 3 coupons - said that they could only use three between the two of them! They can't stand that we go in and pay pennies per order sometimes. So I only shop there when I can get items free or items that give overage. The coupon friendly store in town gets all of my regular shopping business.

I hate SEARS! I have not bought anything in their stores for at least two years. They have no customer service and when they do, most are rude. Their restrooms are nasty. They act like they're doing you a favor when you buy something. Once I came back with my receipt for money back on something they'd put on sale after I'd bought it (they offer the guarantee) and you would have thought I was taking the money out of the cashier's pocket himself!! Their appliance people know absolutely nothing about the appliances they sell. I could go on and on. Let's just say I've boycotted them!!

Oh, forgot to mention McDonalds. I haven't eaten at one in around oh..5 years or so. I hate that place. Rude people and each time I HAVE gone in to order something (because my kids begged me too), I look at the menu, order something and am then told "they don't have that anymore". Uh, it's ON YOUR MENU YOU TWIT! So, we have left. I have done that maybe 3 times in the last 5 years and every time they claim to not serve what they have on their menu (at 2 different MCD's). Stupid people

[quote=cjs216;2919697] For me, it's Walmart. I hate Walmart.....only go there if I can't find what I'm looking for anywhere else or if I'm really, really pressed for time and it's the closest place to go. Why do I hate it? Well, around here, ours are dirty and disorganized (but they seem to have improved since Target rolled into the state..), but mostly it's the quality and knowledge of the employees hired by our local stores and the feeling that I have landed in a foreign country when I go there. Often think I'm the only customer who speaks English. Do you live near me in NJ? LOL I don't mind shopping at Wal-Mart I just hate that in order to do so I have to travel far from my house because the one thats only 10 min from me is like visiting the United Nations (in fact whenever I or any of my friends have to go to that one we joke about it and say we are going to the UN) I don't mind people speaking their native language to each other but I have had sales associates and customers come up to me talking to me in some language I do not understand and no matter how many times I say "I only speak English" they seem to get offended that I don't understand what they are saying. Another thing is all their announcement I'd say 90% of the time are done in Spanish, now I know they may not pertain to me but I'm sorry IMO they should be done in english. The only store I will not go to is C-Town by my BFs, we went in there once for his grandma and the store was dirty. I forgot what she wanted from there but I wouldn't let him buy it there I drove him 15 min away to a Pathmark

Even though I just bought appliances at Sears this last weekend, I hate how cluttered the store looks now. Restrooms are NASTY (This is what happens when Kmart takes over, take note!). It only took us three days to purchase our appliances. Friday the computer systems went down-we had been there for 2 1/2 hours picking them out. Went to buy and no go! Went back on Saturday. Spent 1/2 hour finishing picking out and 3 1/2 trying to check out. -because the salesperson kept messing up our orders and having to re-ring. Finally the credit wouldn't go through because of so many voids in so little of time. It took me FOREVER to find a manager to complain to, and then I was treated very well and taken care of by another salesperson (who was wonderful). But I will not shop there ever again. Kmart- Rude associates, dirty stores. Macy's- They bought out Marshall Fields here, and the one in the mall near me gives me an unpleasant feeling when I shop there. The store seems to not be put together. Merchandise just thrown on racks-and racks are too close together (when there is all this space around!). Seems like the shoe dept is empty when you enter. It just is an unpleasant atmosphere compared to what Marshall Fields was like. I think they have totally let Marshall Fields fans down. Petsmart- Horrible selection of merchandise. Poor Customer Service. Petco is so much better. |

I despise the following stores: WalMart-1. Unable to find some of the things I am searching for. 2. Over priced produce, or crappy quality produce. 3. Not enough check out lines open. 4. Customers entering the store (including myself) were harassed by a man trying to sell TV dinners for drug/ alcohol money. When I notified customer service & greeter, nothing was done except having mgmt. follow the man and his companions around the store. The police should have been notified of the loitering. BestBuy-1.Cramped, crowded aisles 2.Prices not the best in town 3. At times, not enough registers open. 4. Customer service lacks when attempting to find an employee to direct me in the right direction. Circuit City-1.Long wait time for checkout, with just one register open. 2.Products ordered over net never pulled until customer arrives to pick up online order. K-Mart-1. Dirty stores 2. Incorrect pricing 3. Long waits in checkout lines 4. Very poor customer service. Sears-1. Lack of sufficient amount of registers open. 2. Wait time for pick up of online or catalog order merchandise Kohls-1. Cramped aisles 2. Poor organization of clothing 3, Lack of various clothing sizes 4. Rude (Heavy sighing when hanging clothing while customer searching the racks) Macys-1. Poor organization of sale clothing racks 2. Hard to find departments. 3. Poor customer service, unable to honor price on rack with identical article of clothing on same rack. 4. Not enough registers open. 5. Rude employees-Appear to look down on the customer 6. Shoe department looks like explosion hit it Bath & Body-1. Cramped aisles 2. Overdose of scents Food Lion-1. Never enough registers open 2. Outdated food on shelves 3. Signs hanging off freezers that tear clothing 4. Rude employees 5. Lack of customer service Home Depot- 1. Crowded aisles 2. Lack of customer service 3. Lack of employees to answer questions 4. No longer attempt to meet or beat local prices Lowes-1. Lack of employees to answer questions Target-1. Never has employees stationed in electronics department 2. Never has enough registers open The list could continue........but I try to do as much online shopping as possible.

If the deal is good enough I'll shop anywhere ![]() I dislike Walmart for a number of reasons: the parking lots are always crowded, the check out lanes are too narrow, they scrutinize every coupon and worst of all - their prices aren't that great! I compare shopping at Walmart to the dollar store mentality. I'm driven to assume everything is a great deal because its *only* a dollar but in reality most of the items can be found at a grocery or drugstore for far less after coupons and/or sales. Walmart in general is for feeling like you kinda saved some money without much effort...so penny pinching for the lazy ![]() I shopped at KMart a lot this summer because of that *AMAZING* duracell deal. I visited 2-4 stores daily for about two weeks (only did one transaction per store) and found their lines to be too long, merchandise scattered and dusty shelves. Also because of their saving energy in the summer they sometimes had every other row of lights turned off! The overall feeling I associate with them is dinginess which is sad because they have some decent quality items (craftsman, martha stewart). So those are the two stores I'll avoid unless everyone is raving about a great deal |
| ||||
|
Personally, I've reached a point in my life where I will not shop anywhere just for the deal. I am starting to vote with my pocketbook more often as I see it as one way that I can help effect change. Maybe you can too! ![]() Thanks everyone for their inputs...looks like there are some common least favorites here! cj/
