Tell me about....Air Compressors! LOL

OK so dh wants an air compressor for his birthday (15th), or Christmas. I'm trying to pretend that it's not going to happen so I can actually surprise him with one. Anyone have a clue as to what I should be looking for in one? I'm hoping to keep it under $300. Just one for home use, nothing industrial. At the same time he is going to want a good decent one, and not a low end one. Any help is appreciated!

Well I do know alot about compressors... I guess you came to the right place, I bought one for my EX years ago and I did search alot....... What will he be using it for? Will it be stationary or will it be moved around, does he want it to be 220 amp..... or will it be just to diddle around the garage, "fill tires".?

Home depot has some for home use.We bought one a few years ago,for under $300.It is a pancake style(think ufo)and it came with 2 free air guns. One for brads, and the other finishing nails. The still have that deal for the same price, from what I have seen lately.
My SO does a lot of carpentry for other people, and this compressor has kept up with everything he has used it for.It has run the roofing gun,and the stud nailer with no problem, and both take a lot more air than the brad or finish nailers

Around the house, and light jobs he would want it for..I'm not sure about AMPs I know nothing...he did mention he would want it for a nail gun when I asked him why he would want such a thing..I'm going to try to get more examples out of him, the home depot one sounds like something he woudl be interested in!

Lowe's has a nice one....... the 220 amp, is more or less for doing big jobs, like painting cars.etc..... we had that one plus a smaller one for the easier jobs. The one at lowe's is a nice one runs about 280.00...... comes with the nail guns and you can buy add on's if you want or need them.

Wow, I just found this one,, Its nice.....299.00 and has all the tools he will need with it..... I might have to go to lowes.....lol

26-Gallon Compressor With 6 Tools

Or you do a search for Kobalt®
26-Gallon Compressor With 6 Tools

Maybe Home Depot has that one.

The 26 gallon sounds nice, but most of the tools are not something you would use a lot.The nailer stapler is more of a light duty nail gun.most likely staples and brads.

this is what we have Porter Cable Three Nailer/compressor Combo Kit - CFNBNS at The Home Depot
It also runs these with no lag Stanley Bostitch F28WW Industrial Wire Weld Framing Nailer - F28WW at The Home Depot

I think DH has a similar model. It came from Home Depot and at the time they had several different ones. It was the same air compressor, but the more expensive ones came with more tools. DH has a framing nailer, a finishing nailer and a few others that I don't know what they do and he loves them. I think we paid around $300 for ours -- DH used gift cards he got for Christmas.
