Do you consider yourself HONEST?

This is just for fun!!!!

Do you consider yourself HONEST?

What would you have done?

We shipped our Wii off to be fixed by Nintendo a few weeks ago. Well they fixed it and sent a tracking number for us to keep track of it. It was supposed to be delivered on the 4th. On the 5th I called UPS and they confirmed that it was delivered to our "old" address and they advised me to call Nintendo back. I called Nintendo and they were very apologetic about everything. They had our new address change and could not figure out how someone shipped it to our old address. They told me that a manager would call me back and correct the situation. While we were waiting for the call DH decided to make a trip to the old house just to see if it was there. Luckily it was....so we were so grateful that someone did not steal it (no signature was required on the package). I got a call from a manager from Nintendo who was very nice. He explained that he was going to send us another Wii along with free games for all the mix up. I thanked him for offering and explained that my husband made the drive over to the old house and luckily it was there. He was shocked that I was honest about the entire thing. He said most people would have taken the new system that he was offering. He explained that there was no way of knowing where the system went because someone did not request signature confirmation when they sent it. So....long story short......

What would you have done?

I'm honest enough to admit that I would have been dishonest and would have kept the new one.

I would have been honest.

I KNOW how hard it was to find one of these suckers! They're so much fun, I'd want someone else to get enjoyment out of it.

Honestly(he he) I think it would have been cool if he would have insisted on giving you a new one anyways because you were being so honest.

You did the right thing OP. It is good to know that someone isn't greedy especially this time of year.

I would have been honest, but I would have followed his comment quickly with "We are happy to have our Wii system back, and would appreciate the game package that you are offering so that we can have even more fun with it". I'm willing to bet he'd follow through with the offer on that.

ITA -- I'm a firm believer in "karma" and wouldn't have kept the 2nd system but wouldn't be above negotiating for a reward.

Don't worry I'm 99% honest about most things.Once when I was an employee for a store I found a purse .I decided to open the purse to see who it belonged to and there was a LOT of cash in there amongst where I found the Indentification of the owner.Anyway, I called the owner and told her about her purse and she was very excited that I had found it and came right to the store.I was happy that I was able to give her lost purse with everything still in tact as I know what it feels like to lose a large sum of cash. Anyway,I had put the purse in the employee break room, amongst the rest of the purses of the employees, about 3.Anyway when she came to pick up her purse up ,the first thing she did was open it right there on the spot and would you know SOME one, one of my fellow trusty employees stole ALL the money in her purse when noone was looking. I was so mad,as I was the one who found it and told her all her money was still in it.I felt soooo bad and sorry for her.

Normally I'd have been honest but this year Santa is light in the pockets and would have kept it for the kids to be able to open something

I would have been honest-I just figure if I wasn't, it would come back to bite me in the butt somehow. I do believe what comes around goes around. Maybe he'll send you some video games after all! I have found wallets, and larger sums of $ before, and I think it's human to think, "Cool-looky what I found. Finders keeps, losers, weepers." But then after a split second think how I would feel if I was on the other end-and I have been. I have had a change purse returned to me (with all my credit cards and $60 cash at Sams Club), and $80 returned to me that I accidentally left in the U-Scan after asking for change. So I do believe in karma that way.

That's awful. You really should have safeguarded that purse better.

As for the OP, I would have been honest. I look at it this way; it may have been free then, but I would have paid for it twice down the line. Besides, the company had at least tried to rectify the shipping situation in offering not only a replacement but also some games. They were trying to make the customer happy. It would have been a shame to then lie.

The reward is knowing you did the right thing.

I would have done the same OP...and I totally believe in Karma and you will get your reward down the line. I am almost POSITIVE that you will be getting free games and other stuff in the mail from Nintendo. Be proud of your honesty...not questioning it

I tend to be honest, but I do see people who aren't profit from it, and sometimes wish I could do that. I don't think I could handle it too well, though.

I would have told him.

I once went clothes shopping. The woman ahead of me at the register bought a lot of stuff. I bought a few things. When I got home I realized that some of the things the woman before me had bought had been put in my bag. So I brought them back to the store. When I told the clerk what must have happened, she said, "Oh Wow. You brought them back? They didn't fit you, huh." As though if they were my size I would have kept them. What a jerk. I was a college student and could have just brought them back and said I lost the receipt or something and gotten a chunk of cash.

Just last week, I returned something that I ordered at JCPenny.com to the catalog counter at my local store. It was a $24 item. The guy struggled with the return and handed me paper work for a $105 credit to my Visa. I could have walked out $80 richer, but let him know. Jerk acted like I was putting him through more work and didn't even say thanks. Grrr....

I would have done the same thing...told the truth. I'm sure Nintendo isn't hurting for money and wouldn't be too hurt by the loss of the money from one game system...but I would know what I did and I couldn't live with that.

My son found a $10 bill in the play tubes at McDonald's once. I think it belonged to some older boys that were up in there playing but they had already left. I went ahead and took it up to the manager in case someone came looking for it. Who knows what he did with it...possibly pocketed it? Usually if my kids find any money (other than a coin on the ground) they put it in the "poor box" at church.

We just sent our Wii out for repair a few weeks ago. Maybe they'll send ours to our old address. Unfortunately, we have lived in the same house since 1985!

Are the Wii's needing repair often? And I would have done the same as the OP, there is nothing we need badly enough to be dishonest about it. Otherwise what would we tell our kids, who we have taught to turn in "found" items and money...my son once found $200 on the floor by a checkout in a grocery store. He turned it in, and was rewarded with the money after a couple weeks when no one came back for it.

Honesty is the best policy (except maybe when someone asks "do I look fat??") hehe
