Anything you can tell me about such as where it is located and what the weather will be like in March Cold or Warm Rainy? Daughter will be doing an alternative Spring Break in this area with her service club. Any info greatly appreciated. Not sure what she should pack.

I dont live near it I have a friend who used to live in Independence which as I googled Fries Va it is near it, I've probably been through it but dont remember it by name etc

I came across the cities own website here Fries VA - Where the New River Trail Begins, Grayson County VA, Carroll County VA, Blue Ridge Mountains, Bluegrass, Mountain Music, Festivals

Virginia no matter where it is during march can be cold as can be or nice and spring like, I was born during the blizzard of 1966 which happened to be in March so it can vary from year to year week to week.

The County which is Grayson is located on the Southwest State line I think it borders TN but I could be wrong, Its been a lot of years since I have been down that way I do need to go down that way to Roanoke for Genealogy research I just know it is beautiful down that way with mountains and lots of open land or it used to be open land.

I hope your DD has fun while helping out others while she is there I would pack winter clothes and some lighter early spring stuff also just to be safe.

I have lived in Va for years and never heard of Fries. What county is it ? Is it the appalachian area ?

Well, with the way the weather has been in Virginia this year, I would tell your daughter to bring clothes for layering. As another poster said, it can be cold in March or it could be a spring-like. I remember times when we've had a blizzard in March!! Or an ice storm!! Since she's not going till March, repost this closer to the time and maybe we'll know more then.

Like the last few days, it was down to 21 at night and we had sleet/freezing rain the next morning. Caused major traffic problems. Today it's 60 and is supposed to be near the 70's the rest of the week. Go figure!!

I was the one who mentioned the extremes in weather here in VA. Yep March 8th 1966 decided I had to be born and there was a blizzard going on or so I am told. My friend was born on the 5th a year earlier and it snowed and it used to always snow for our birthdays, but March Comes in like a lion for us and sometimes goes out the same way.

This weather is wreaking havoc on DS immune system and asthma we just had another visit to the ER for his asthma and yet another Upper REspiratory Infection this afternoon, but they think it is viral. This freezing at night spring during the day stuff has got to go away its driving me nuts, DS has missed more school this year than all years combined.
