Any Red Wine drinkers out there?

Hubby is diabetic, and every once in awhile like Holidays, we might try some wine. The store said that Red is the driest, which means that is one with less sugar. We tried various types over the years, but they all have the burny, oak barrel taste. Do they all taste like that, or can someone recommend a brand or type that doesn't? THANKS for your help!

My absolute favorite is Francis Coppola Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

My personal favorite is:

Ernest and Julio Gallo "Cafe Zinfandel"

It is a red wine, but it is rather sweet. I don't know if it would be appropriate for a diabetic or not. It is totally reasonable in price, though . . .

I don't think that the sugar in these is really going to make that much of a difference -- you might ask his dr.or a dietician. My guess is that they are going to say that alcohol, in general, is not a great idea for a diabetic......but that the occasional glass for special occasions is probably okay. I am sure that it is dependant on many factors. Again, I am NOT a medical professional. I do enjoy red wine as does my husband (on occasion) who is also a diabetic. Our favorites are Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel, Hess, and Liberty Schoolhouse.

Try a Shiraz, Yellow Tail brand is an Austrailian wine, it is more berry tasting, without the dry aftertaste.....reasonably priced too!!

My husband and I make homemade wine. We have made Cabernet to a Port. My favorite is Blackberry Riesling.

That is one thing if you are a wine drinker is to get into. It is very easy..... but patience is a virtue . Summer is the best months to make,. you can use anything from dandelions, roses , watermelon to potato, even corn whiskey.
