Need a moving away present for 9 year old girl

One of my 9 year old dd's best friends is moving shortly after Christmas. They are moving from Illinois to California. She is spending the night this Saturday night for the last time and I was trying to think of something good that my DD could give her before she leaves.

My DD doesn't seem to be upset about it, but I figure she might be when the time actually comes. They usually spend the night at each other's houses a couple of times a month. Right now I think it's bothering me more than my DD, but of course I don't tell her that! They just get along so well and she's such a good kid (the friend)!

Anyway, if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks!

I know zip about these things - but would something like WebKinz allow the girls (and their pets) to stay in touch and play together on the internet???

I still have an autograph dog that I got when I moved away from friends at that age!
They probably sell autograph books at gift shops too.

If you're able (weather and time permitting) You could drive them around to 10 Memory making spots that they share and take a photo of the two of them Sat evening.
Then print them off on the computer later that night and load a cute quicky photo album.
Picture ideas -
In front of your house,
In front of hers,
In front of school, In front of mascot or school sign,
in front of the local mall (or place they liked to go - movies?)
Did they take dance? Did they play soccer or other sports, in front of that venue.
Did they attend church?
Did they picnic in the park alot?
did they bike ride together?
Did they swim?
Did they have a playhouse?
Playing make up or dress up?
with a pet?
baking cookies? with milk mustaches?
Favorite pizza place ----
you get the idea...

Anyway, She could use it a "show and tell" in her new school.... might help her make new friends at the new place because she's sharing some important things about herself and she'll feel good having such happy memories to reflect back on .

I say maybe a prepaid calling card would be nice. Also, one of those necklaces or bracelets that come in two parts that say best (on half) and friends (on the other half).

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I'll talk with my DD about them tonight and see what she thinks. I love the webkins idea, but my kids don't have any yet. I've got them for Christmas gifts though, so I think I'll talk with her friend's mom and see what she thinks about it. I'd love to get her one of those after Christmas though!

Yes..

with webkinz they could play games online together.. but what they can say to each other is very limited. My kids (and I love them. I would definitely get her one if you kids will have them too.

When my best friend moved away I remember sitting and making a huge list of all the fun things and inside jokes we had together and presenting her with it.

Maybe one of those necklaces that has 2 parts.. one for each girl to wear.. or matching bracelets or rings?
