Are you giving your boss a Christmas gift?

Does anyone know correct etiquette about giving a gift to your boss during the holidays? My boss is always so thoughtful to us during the year. She likes to bring in goodies, and leave notes and small tokens of appreciation on our desks. I would like to get her something but one of my co-workers said at Christmas, the boss is supposed to give the workers something, but we are not supposed to give the boss anything. Please advise!

I think if you feel your Boss shows appreciation throughout the year then why not get a Gift. I know they say not to but I do anyway. Heck I tip my Hairdresser who owns the shop and the proper etiquette I beleive is not to if they are the owner. I am getting my Boss a Gift for he and his wife to both share and enjoy.

We all do a small collection at work and give the boss something as a group.

At the places that I've worked at, we've always given the boss a gift. My DH is an engineering manager, and they all get the bigger bosses gifts. DH gets and gives gifts too.

A decorated plate of homebaked cookies, fudge, pumpkin or banana bread and that sort of thing would always be appropriate. Cookies and the breads can be frozen and not have to be eaten right away.

That is what my dh's group does for him. He has a wonderful group of people and he treats them very well. He buys them Christmas gifts, too (and that doesn't come out of the company's pocket it comes out of ours).

This year dh and *his* boss decided to nix their 'traditional' gift card exchange (for the past few years they've been given each other a $25 gift card somewhere). They decided to spend the money on canned food to give to their company holiday food drive. So, this year dh gave his boss $25 worth of canned corn....LOL!!!!

When I was employed I always got my manager a gift even if it was small (box of chocolates, poinsetta, etc.). I don't understand why people wouldn't get their boss a gift unless that person was the owner of the company or unless they were a mean boss.

Have never given my boss(es) a gift over the years - sometimes a card. Have given my employees a gift - usually a lunch or a lunch and a small gift card with a note (out of my pocket). Have seldom received anything from my employees, but they are 95% guys, so I would find it very odd if they did give something. Their responses to my performance surveys are gift enough for me!

We do a collection, but I also buy her a gift. My principal works her tush off, and is always super supportive.

I am getting her a pack of thank you cards (she loves these!) a method holiday plug in (she loves those too), and was thinking about making her a lime salt scrub for her hands. We will see if that happens too.

Our staff came together and got our boss a Christmas Catus this year....I know cheap, BUT she wanted in the polyanna and didn't want us to get her anything (She always gets us something). So we thought just something simple. Plus now her husband and her own the store (she use to be the Manager) so we weren't sure if we should get him something or not. In the past though her gifts were much better...lol...we always gave her a carving of a bird or duck that my Uncle did....so its gone down hill but she was drunk and happy last night at the Christmas party and couldn't thank us enough

Lime and Ginger Salt Glow

1/4 cup fresh gingerroot
1/2 cup table salt
2 limes
1/2 cup vegetable oil

1. Pulverize 1/4 cup fresh ginger root in a blender (I grate mine instead) ; add 1/2 cup table salt (I use kosher salt).
2. Mix in juice from 2 limes(I also add some lime zest) and 1/2 cup warmed vegetable oil to make a soft but gritty paste (This time I am going to use either grape seed oil, or sweet almond oil instead).
3. Use to exfoliate hands, feet and rough spots such as elbows, massaging into skin with gentle circular motions.
4. Rinse with warm water spiked with squirts of lime.
5. This is best if used after a nice hot bath or shower.

Or I may use this recipe.....

Brown Sugar Body Scrub

1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon orange oil (or the juice of half a fresh squeezed orange)
1 tablespoon vitamin E oil

1. Mix brown sugar, orange oil/juice, and vitamin E oil in a bowl.
2. Get in the tub and get wet.
3. Take a handful of mixed ingredients and scrub in a gentle circular motion.
4. Rinse off and apply a moisturizing lotion to re-hydrate skin.

I've always given my bosses gifts at Christmas. I just don't know what to get him this year. Last year I bought him a bottle of Scotch, but that was REALLY expensive (like close to $50) and I don't want to do that again this year (especially since he's told me he gets it really cheap somewhere). The year before the other secretary in the office and I bought him a personalized plaque for his office. Now I'm the only secretary, so it will be something just from me. I know he likes jalapeno pepper jelly. I did make 2 kinds of hot pepper jelly this summer, so I'll probably give him a jar of each, but I just don't know what else. Think I could make some kind of basket and add some crackers and cream cheese? What else could I put into it???? Ideas anyone?

We're taking up a collection and getting our boss a gift card to probably Best Buy like we did last year. He loves that store and he does appreciate it. Scared him last year when we gave him the card. We got him him the office and he was backed in a corner so he couldn't get out and we all gathered around him. He was totally shock and speechless when we gave it to him. He does so much for us so it was worth it. Now then owner......That's another story. I think he's worse the Scrooge!

In the past I've worked in small offices and gotten my bosses things for their office that they may not have had before - sometimes utalitarian; sometimes just pretty

I work for a large company now and last year everyone chipped in towards a gift card to a restaurant our boss likes. No one has mentioned doing that this year though *hrm*

I didn't get my boss a gift. We got my DH's boss a box of Godiva candy and some Godiva hot chocolate and Healing Garden lotion and shower gel. His direct supervisor we got Healing Garden body wash and lotion. The people in his unit all chipped in $15 and got his direct supervisor a $75 gift card to JC Penney. Then we also got everyone in his unit Healing Garden or Calgon lotion and body wash.
