What do you Dread about Traveling over the Holidays??

I love traveling over the holidays for the most part, but there are a few things that I dread.......

I dread the 22 hr car trip from Delaware to Texas with two boys in the backseat.......thank goodness for the DVD payer

And what I dread the most is my 6'4'' husband and me at a mere 6' even sharing a full size bed at my MIL house.

What are you dreading before you head out for the holidays?

I dread my dh bitching about the other drivers...I dread the high gas prices. I dread visiting his parents because they are inconsiderate and selfish. I dread having to use restrooms in gas stations and quick marts on the way there.
I dread the kids bickering.l
listening to the same song over and over on the radio
stopping for lunch at a crowded fast food place where the orders are wrong and the staff clueless
dread having to rely on my dh to drive me around when we get there because I do not know the town and do not know how to get to a store, etc

I dread that our Christmas holidays are never relaxing because of the travelling. For once I would love to stay at our house for the entire holiday and not worry about pleasing everyone but that won't ever happen.

I usually dread sitting at my daughter's after the kids get up, get their Santa gifts and they all go to her MIL's house for gifts and breakfast and after coming home for a little while sitting again while they go to another relative's for Christmas dinner!
Yes, they know we are there.
No, we are not invited!
This year we have made other plans for while they are gone!
Next year they are coming to our house!

We don't travel for Christmas anymore. About 8 years ago, Christmas traveling got to be too much with a two year old and breing on bed-rest with a pregnancy. We stayed home the next year and absolutely loved it. The kids got to wake up in their own home to our (newly started then) own traditions.

We do travel to in-laws for New Years and go sledding in the snow and will usually open gifts with them then if they hadn't sent them to us. It is much better for us to travel after Christmas...then they don't have their 5 adult kids in their home, plus their significant others and all of the grandkids. They have a three bedroom home, so it gets really snug after the second night.

I do feel the pain for those who travel for Christmas. One of the things that I dreaded (haven't seen it mentioned yet) was when everyone got together, they felt the need to drink. Not have a glass of wine or a beer together...but get drunk. That is not the way I want my kids to remember "Aunt Betty"

We'll I have nothing to dread since we don't go any where! LOL! We live over 3,500 miles away from family and that is too long of a haul to go visit someone for a few short days. Besides that, my family (and his) live in HUGE snow areas, so if we got stuck there because of a snow storm and he couldn't make it back to base in time for work, he would be in a world of hurt (he's in the military).

I too am dreading the drive - about 20 hours from Kansas to NJ. We don't go every year, but I am truly not looking forward to it!! All of my family has much more money than us, we live week to week and this trip is a great hardship on us!! It would break my my mom's heart if we didn't go now, which is why I amfollowing through, and still going to go. But after this year, I am done, my family can visit us!! Sorry to complain, the whole trip has been extremely stressful though!!

I dread coming back to work after the holidays.

I also dread gas prices!

I just dread the traveling to Mom's house, Dad's House, MIL's house. Christmas is just too stressful because of all the house hopping we have to do.

Although I've invited everyone to my house, they don't want to travel the 45+ miles to come here. But have no problem with me traveling to see them. (They all live w/i 10 miles of each other) Oh, and God forbid, my mom and dad, who have been divorced for 20 years now, decide to act like grown-ups and get together so we can all meet at one place!

Thanks for letting me vent.

We don't usually go anywhere over the holidays but since DH's work closed we can this year! We are going on a short 5 hour trip to Maine to see my Mom and sister.

I feel so sorry for you guys with the 20+ HOUR trips, no way we would ever do that!

We drove to Florida ONCE before kids and there is no way I would do that again, especially with kids.

Good luck everyone!!

I also dread it (and feel bad) because my grandmother is very ill. My family is small (only me, my mom & grandma)- and it is going to be hard not having her at home during Christmas, and having to go see her in the hospital.

I really feel awful for dreading that. I just don't want to see her so ill, and suffering.
