Defragging... Ugh!
It takes so long but is necessary! I'm off to defrag my computer.

Happy New Year and have a nice day cuz I won't see you all for about 24 hours! LOL.

lol I used to kinda like the one where it had all the little boxes and you could watch it as it went along, the one I have now is just this little bar that goes across the screen and tells you % done. it's boreing of course i know I should be doing something else while it's busey but sigh hehehe


Here i'll go defrag too so your not alone :-)

Does it really make a difference with your computer? Just wonder if it is necessary. I have never done it to my computer.

I don't run defrag that often. I run the "analyze" portion and it always tells me I don't need to it. On my old PC, I had to do it all the time or it would run so s....l....o....w....

If anyone adds programs and deletes them., it is good to defrag. Actually everyone should do it.
It takes all your files and puts them back in order of importance. It all collects the files and puts them back ALSO makes puter run faster. . It is very important to do at least once a month. I have 3 large HD's and it only takes about 20 min each.

Well... it only took about 30 minutes this morning. I got the 'not necessary' after I ran the 'analyze' portion but I defragged anyway. DH, my 'puter man, says that it's best to keep on top of it and things do seem to be running faster now. One time a few years ago, it took a really long time... probably when I was heavy into Freeride or something.

Start >> MyComputer >> Right click on your hard drive (Local Disk C: ) >> Properties >> Tools >> Defragmentation >> Defragment Now - choose to analyze or just go straight to deframent

You can also go to Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>Disc Defragmenter. And choose analyze or defragment. I usually go right for defrag, because I figure if I'm at that point, it probably needs a defrag..LOL.

It doesn't prevent or block anything.

In the simplest terms, defragmenting your disk arranges your files better to improve your PC's performance (I/O performance, in particular). It also checks for bad locations on your drive, etc.

In more complex terms, placing the files that are referenced together and towards the outer region of the disk, reduces seek distances and improves performance. Also, the bigger the hard drive, the higher the performance benefit of placing files closer together via defragmentation.
