well, since I'm a know it all, I've GOT to add my two cents:
Having been admitted to the hospital, having had relatives admitted to the hospital and having worked in hospital ERs, I can say it's been my experience that upon admittance the hospitals have either taken off all jewelery (including the cute little bracelets) or requested that all jewelery be removed.
Furthermore, if hospital staff depends solely on the wristlets to ID a patient and any treatment orders then they are negligent in their treatment of said patience. Generally, orders or important info (such as allergies, DNR, etc.) is in the pt.'s charts, written on a white board, and on the bracelet. It is usually protocol to confirm the information before proceeding with any treatment. So, I think this article is not necessarily a reflection of what occurs in the majority of the hospitals.
