Anyone use HomeAgain for their pets?

After paying the $45 to have the dog micro-chipped I find out its $10 to activate it and another $15 a year!

Holy Cow!

Has anyone ever used their services and been reunited with their pets? I didn't realize it was a subscription thing. I figured you had the dog chipped, registered it with them and that was it unless your pet became lost.

I had my pom chipped and had the same experience-found out AFTER he'd been chipped it was a subscription service.

I've not registered him, but the lady at the vet office told me they have to report the info to Home Again. It will just show the name of the vet who inserted that particular chip if the owners haven't registered. They would be notified if the dog was found, and they keep a file of all the animals who are chipped and in the past they've just notified all the owners of whatever particular breed was found.

I'm sure at some point I'll go ahead and register him, but not right now.

I got my dog microchipped in Oct. There was a $17 initial fee. I don't believe there was a yearly fee. Watch me be wrong about the yearly fee thing.

It's been years, but, I don't remember paying. Like I said, it's been years, 2002, in fact. I am sure I got rid of all the paperwork on it, too, since the pets have since died.

I would contact your local humane society, and animal control, and ask them if you need to be registered with Home Again for them to track you down. Chances are, if your pet wandered off, they would end up at the HS or AC.

I'm going thru papers and files, and if I happen to come across the info. on it, I'll let you know.

Thanks ladies, I went ahead and registered her. I mean the damn dog cost my daughter $500 but she's living on the west coast now and the pup lives with us. I would hate to have something happen to her and they can't trace her back to us because I'm cheap....lol
