I have no clue what gas prices are here in my area, when I need to go somewhere I take a taxi. I also dread seeing my gas heating bill this month!! ![]() -Susan

Gas is 2.99 for 87 octane here in Delaware, however my vehicle has never had anything less then 91 octane in it so I paid 3.21 yesterday for 93 octane. I don't drive any less with the increase of gas.......my vehicle is 3 years old and just went over 20,000 miles and thats because of the 3,000 road trip added to it from going to Texas for the holidays. So its safe to say I don't drive much. When I go out to do errands I always make a list of all of the errands I need to do so I don't have to go again later. Unfortunately driving is a necessity for most people, so it might suck the prices are so high, but there isn't really anything you can do about it.

Yesterday regular was $2.91. My car takes the premium which was $3.11. I hate paying it, but it does not change my habits. I'm not a high mileage driver to begin with. Lisa

Regular lowest grade gas went up to $3.06 here. It just jumped back up in the last 3 days after being down to $2.90. I hate it when I catch myself calling gas for $2.80something cheap. It has changed the way we drive. My hubby and I swap cars depending on who is driving the longest distance. I have a ford focus and an explorer and whoever is driving the longest distance that day gets the focus.

Last night I saw the cheap stuff was 3.19. The day before, it was 3.01 for the cheap stuff. I don't drive much, as I babysit at home, thank goodness. My truck has a 33 (or 35, I don't know, but it's big) gallon gas tank in it, so it would kill me to fill it up. DH put 30 bucks in it yesterday and it didn't even give me a quarter of a tank. |
| ||||
|
I paid 2.95 gal for reg unlead. Cost me aprrox $50 to fill up. With the cost of gas rising, I take minimal trips now, and splurge very little. Must have gas to travel to and from work, as well as grocery or clothing shopping. Regarding how it has effected my life: take few trips, no driving around without a purpose, and attempting to locate service providers close to home. Basically, I rarely go out anymore & stick to doing more home activities such as housework or cooking, even online shopping.

Yesterday it was 2.99 and this morning I saw it was 3.03........ I haven't really changed my driving habits....I don't drive a lot anyway, but it sort a helps that DH isn't driving right now .

Gas is $2.91 a gallon for regular. I read in the newspaper that gas prices had increased 75 cents a gallon since last year. I'm trying to consolidate my errands into one trip instead of making several trips.

$3.19 for regular unleaded. Since it's winter (and I hate snow) I try and stay home as much as possible. I have to drive dd back and forth to school though. So I try and do errands as soon as she goes to school.

We have an inadequate bus system and no light rail where we live. My husband and I try to carpool when we can, but our schedules aren't always the same. Often, he has to get to work at 7am and doesn't leave until 9 or 10pm. But, that isn't something we started to do recently. Our home is heated by natural gas and we have only seen a mild increase this year. We have always kept the temperature low and bundled up. (Makes it more fun under the covers, too.) I am much more hopeful with raising prices that we will be able to invent alternate energy sources as opposed to trying to put our noses into oil rich parts of the world and just keep sucking the wells until they are dry. Where I live, there is no light rail and the bus service is pathetic. Every time I can, I vote for mass transite, yet they just keep building more roads .... Eventually, it will become uncomfortable enough and other voters will start voting for a light rail system. Either that, or people who live farther from their places of work will move closer to the city, which will be fine with me because it will increase the value of my home. |

I wish we had $2.xx gas. I live south of Lansing MI about 30 miles and our gas is $3.23 for regular. We live outside of town and have to make a number of trips every week. Tried to cut back on our driving but it hasn't happened yet. We've cut back on our eating out. Hubby is retired and for our enjoyment we like to eat out once a week. Now it's twice a month. I really appreciate the bargains I find here and on other sites. The money we save goes into the gas tank. |

OMG!! I'm fixin' to get up on my soapbox and rant. What I'm reading here is partially what's wrong with the crude prices. Supply and demand!! Until driving habits are changed and the demand goes down, crude prices are going to stay as is. Of course, I'm hoping getting Bush out of office will help the crude situation dramatically. I remember back in the '70's when the nation was in a gasoline crisis. The speed limit was lowered to 55 MPH as gas mileage improves with lower RPM's. My Equinox SUV gets better gas mileage at 2000 RPM's or less which means going no higher than 65 MPH and 60 MPH is better. Cut out the jackrabbit starts and stops. It pains me to see the drivers that think they have to be the first one to the next traffic signal. They're just wasting gasoline. I no longer go out just to be going out for something to do. I can't afford it. DH likes to go out looking at the sporting goods stores. Go to W-M for nothing in particular or just for a few items. We no longer do that. No special trips to the library. The library is located within a block of school so we go right after school. If I absolutely need a grocery item, I go to the closer grocery store although it is higher priced than W-M. The higher price is less than if I drove farther to go to W-M. Oh, forgot to add......$2.99 is the dominant price. I paid $2.94 |

$2.96. I have no choice we live 20 miles from town and there are no buses and the highway is way too dangerous to ride a bike. I have to drive around the county for work so I get reimbursed for some of my gas and I try to do my errands while I am out working by planning my routes efficiently. But we both work and we like going places and we don't let gas prices stop us.

$3.04 I budget $30 a week for gas for my car -- sometimes it lasts longer than a week, but I still will only fill it with $30 when I go to the gas station! $30.00 isn't going as far as it used to. I've had to change my driving habits considerably. We live in a semi-rural area and I get about 27 mpg average. |
| ||||
|
I spend about $50 a week in my car and I get 18-20 MPG. I use 85 octane fuel and it was $2.83 last time I filled up but I'm due to fill up again in a couple of days so it will probably be more. I heard on the news that CO has some of the lowest costs right now. Changes: I don't go out to dink around anymore. I used to drive 50 miles to Denver to walk the different malls and just hang out and see the sights. Not anymore. That trip is $12 at least just for gas and then you eat out , etc. I used to go about 1-2 times a month. Now we go about once every few months. Last time was just to get a wedding gift (they were registered at Williams Sonoma and it was closest one and driving was cheaper than paying shipping online). I stay at home more. I wish we had buses or some sort of easier transit but we don't. It takes $2 or more in gas just to drive down to the interstate. I stay in town more and at home even more. I buy a lot more online than I used too. I have found that even with shipping charges, my cost is usually lower than if I drove to get it (plus I save the sales tax and that helps). I use Amazon grocery store A LOT and love the free shipping DH rides his bicycle to work when he can in the warm weather (10 miles one way) and motorcycle on other days. His truck only gets 13 MPG so luckily his work is so close. HE also tries to work from home about once a month when he can.

I just filled up the car two days ago and it was $3.51 per gallon. Thankfully it doesn't really affect my driving that much at all. We live on an island of about 40 miles of paved road (give or take a few miles, but I think I'm being generous, LOL). The majority of the places I need to drive are less then 3 miles from where we live and hubby is close enough to walk to work. Now when we move back down South, my gripe could get a WHOLE LOT WORSE. ;=)

Our cheap gas here is $2.99 a gallon. It has affected my driving habits a great deal! DH and I drive 100 miles a day combined just to go to and from work. We chose to change our habits about 9-10 months ago when gas prices started rising. We don't make any extra trips anywhere, if we run out of bread (the closest store is 10 miles roundtrip) or milk we do without until the next time we pass by a store on our way to or from work. We run all errands on the way to or from work, grocery store, yard sale anything must be done when we are already going into town. We used to go into town 25 miles one way on Saturdays to run all our errands, take the whole family, eat lunch out, etc. We don't do this anymore. So not only are we saving some gas we're saving the money we would spend on lunch. We are doing more around the house, movies, organizing, cleaning, reading, selling on Ebay, playing with the dogs, cooking, baking, practicing basketball and softball with DD, yard work, etc. I am a vendor, but only work 20-25 hours a week, I now drive into work only 3 days a week instead of 5 days a week, saving 2 trips a week in gas, plus our extra Saturday trip we used to make.

I have *had it* with these gas prices! Ever since Katrina, DH and I have altered our driving habits, believe me. Like other posters, we no longer make random trips (errands), we plan out where we need to go and group our errands/driving accordingly. However, WHY are these gas prices STILL so high??!?!!? They don't have any "excuses" like they did 2 years ago w/ Katrina and other hurricanes... yet still gas is SKY HIGH and DH says we will most likely never gas below $2/gallon again. Whether I am wrong about this, I don't really care, but I do believe our wonderful president could have done something about this (skyhigh prices) but has not done a d@mn thing. I cannot wait until we have a new president elected this year, but my only hope is that we don't go from the frying pan into the fire. It's not JUST the rising gas prices that are upsetting: It's a huge, whole trickle down effect, which is further impacting our family's standard of living. Groceries are costing more, EVERYTHING has gone up, basically, due to the rising cost of fuel. Thank God for couponing... I absolutely cannot imagine what families are doing when grocery shopping w/o using any coupons. The prices are INSANE! ![]() Go easy w/ your comments on my post, it's been a long week for me and I'm glad it's over. BTW - any of you that have gas for $2.xx/gallon, consider yourself "lucky": It's around $3.06/gallon here in the Charlotte, NC area! ![]() Suzanne

We are paying in the 2.80 range here. We seem to go through a lot of gas. DH and I each drive a SUV--not by choice, we just really can't afford a new car pmt right now, and both cars are paid off. Unfortunately, it is an expense that really cannot be avoided. We each work about 15mis. from home, and public transportation here is just not dependable. While gas is expensive, all of a sudden it seems like so many other things are so high-take for instance, eggs and milk-sheesh! Thank goodness w/ coupons I can save $$ on other necessities. Life has gotten so expensive lately!

I didn't look today (sounds like they just went up?) but I paid around $3.25/gallon for premium (93?) last week, just put $30 in which was about half a tank. My driving habits haven't changed since I've never really gone out much. Kroger and Wal-Mart are across the street from each other and Whole Foods is about 5 miles away. Imagine my surprise when I found out neither Kroger nor WM have gas stations... somehow had hundreds of dollars worth of grocery spending at Kroger and no gas station to redeem it at! (my brother uses the same Kroger number).

I resigned a position I enjoyed 16 mos. ago when the gas prices here were wildly fluctuating twixt about $2.75-$3.xx. Even though I was getting mileage, with the cost of vehicle depreciation, it just wasn't worth it to work outside the home with that job when gas prices were so nuts, especially since I spent a lot of time on the road. It was a dream job - I made my own hours, could work outta home whenever possible, the work was very gratifying (children's mental health for the county), but the great pay wasn't so great after gas prices started to go whacko. We have definitely changed our driving habits in the last 18 mos. Errands are done more often than not by dh on his way back from work .... on the days when he isn't able to telecommute. He has also been working outta home for at least 2-3 days a week, it's been a major blessing for us. Another big change in driving habits for us. We used to have a conversion van that would fit all our kids, and at times, some extras for carpooling. No more. Now we drive a small Hyundai and a Ford Taurus mil gave us before she died. We can't carpool anymore, but we have no car payments and it costs much less to fill the gas tanks. We are fortunate in that we live in a burb with everything we *need* withing one mile in either direction of home. I do much less shopping period, and especially much less shopping for bargains I find on the LWIF B&M boards. If it's not a neccessity, and even often times when it is, I do online shopping. I hs my kids still at home, and all their extracurricular activities have to be planned in such a way so as to combine them with errands. We bundle up here at home, wool and fleece are our best fabric friends;-) The cost of everything, especially groceries, has gone up, so I am grateful that we have an upright freezer we can fill with bargains and we now buy our beef from a farmer and costs much lower than most grocery store sales. Now I need to find a farm source for poultry and pork and dairy. We also are fortunate in that there are several fabulous thrift shops close by, and that is where most of our clothing/accessories, even furniture, etc. have come from in the last 18 mos. My kids have never been dressed so trendily (if that's a word ;-) since we discovered these thrift shops. Today, in the TC area of MN, gas was twixt $3.05- $3.20/gallon. I remember in the 70's when everyone was griping about gas prices being in the 70 cents plus range. Ahhhh, for the good ole days, eh? ;-) MZ |

Seems to me that gas here is around 3.01-3.09 lately. It doesn't really impact what I do at all, except for the fact that I cringe when it costs me $50 to fill my tank (just a regular old car, not an SUV) and also makes me wonder how the dude working minimum wage can afford it. cj/

I live in Watertown NY and I can't believe that we are about the highest that I have read. The cheap gas (lo octane) was $3.30 and just jumped to $3.35 yesterday. I knew we were high but I didn't realize that we were that high. Going to Syracuse makes a big difference in the price. They are usually about 5 cents less a gallon. I stay home more now than I used to but I can't say for sure if it is the gas price of winter and the cold temps!! |

quillon: thanks for the great site! In the last state we lived in (after being there more than 15 years) we knew the best farmers' markets and farms to buy whatever we wanted. We've been in our current state for nearly 7 years and have felt lost at not having the great resources we used to have. The site you posted is fabulous, I now know where to get *everything*! As an added bonus, one of the farms for our area also has a great deal on therapeutic riding, something I've been desperate to find for one of the kids. Coolio, to say the least 8^D MZ |

I am kinda glad that gas is as high as it is. To me, it's a good thing to have a good percentage of the population question their usage and look for alternatives and ways to save. We are too dependent on oil in the US, in my opinion. I think other countries (European, at least) are used to paying this much for petrol. cj/

Man i am feeling very hosed here.. WE are at $3.34 for regular unleaded...I am in western NY. I don't go out near as much as I used to and we are hoping to move closer to the area DH works . Dh does not want to move in the winter though so we are waiting until spring..IF we can find a place that is. We can get gas 20¢ cheaper a gallon at the reservation though and that is where dh fills up mostly.
