Moms of tall skinny boys....

I need some help! My son is 13 and he is 5 foot something... all legs and skinny as a rail. He just broke 80 lbs. I am having such a hard time finding him jeans.

I bought jeans for back to school at Kohls and they were the ones with the hidden adjuster in the waist. They worked out good... he has to pull them about all the way in but the length worked. They were size 14. Well, he had a growth spurt and didnt grow wider of course, he grew taller.

So, if you have the same dilemma and figured out how to clothe your child and not have them wearing high waters or pants that are falling off their butt... please let me know. Oh, he doesnt love belts which is another issue that makes it hard to find jeans.

TIA, for any help!

My two oldest are pretty tall and skinny-DS#1 is 17, and 6'4" and DS#2 is 14 and is 5'9". We have been buying their jeans @Steve and Barrys. The 14 year old wears a 30x32, but some of the styles fit differently. I have to take him w/ me when I buy.

Old Navy has the ones with adjustable waist tabs too. My son is extremely skinny but they do fit him when adjusted ....lol

LOL! How did you get a hold of my Son!

I buy adjustable waist, but once they leave boys sizes it's hard....I have solved the problem by whipping out my sewing maching and sewing tabs into the waist to make them fit.....

I too have the same problem. I have to buy 2 sizes bigger for my 7 year old just so they will fit him length wise. I love the adjustable waist. I found that either Old Navy or Levi works best for him.

My DD is like that. I found that Old Navy was the best for her. They have the slim sizes with adjustable waist and they also have a nice length to them. I would definitely try there!!!

DS is almost 14, 5'2"ish and about 105 lbs. We manage to make a 27X28 from Aeropostale work for him and they are cool! He needs a belt, but the length is pretty good. It might not work since your son is a lot thinner, but you may want to look. I think I have seen some 26" waist measurements in some "young men's" sections.

I used to buy DS school uniform pants at JC Penneys or online at jcp.com. They carry slims up to size 20. Levis also has slim jeans up to size 16. DS finally broke 100lbs in 8th grade. He is now in 9th, 5' 11" and weighs 110lbs. He can wear Levis 29W x 32L. They are pretty loose in the waist but they aren't falling off. So far the length is OK but when he grows another inch I will have to buy 34L. When I met DH he was 6'2" and weighed 165lbs so DS is built just like him!

Both my boys are tall and thin. They are still little (7 & 4), so I can find slims and adjustable waist jeans. For my youngest, Osh Kosh jeans fit best. For my oldest, Levis or Childrens Place work best. They both are at least two sizes bigger in the length than the waist. My 4 year old can still wear 18-24 month shorts.

I've found a few things in searching for pants for them. 'Regular' cuts fit best. I try to avoid 'loose fit' or 'carpenter' styles since they tend to be too baggy. Also, I try to find the longest pair in a specific size at the store. Old Navy & Childrens Place sizes tend to vary a lot, so sometimes I can find really long pants with a small waist.

Thanks everyone for the ideas on where to look. I didnt know that Levis carried jeans with the adjustable tabs. Also, we have a Steve and Barrys that my friend has been talking about so maybe I will head up there with her and see what they have.

Levi seems to be the best here. But after reading this my son is huge 11 years old 5'4" and size 11 shoes. I have to take all his pants in. He is just so tall and thin.
