I'm moving to the Pitsburgh area

My husband just received word of a job transfer. Can anyone give me the highlights of the Pittsburgh area. Is the economy there good? I may need to get a part time job when we move.

MyCoupons is based out of Pittsburgh I was born and raised here and I love our city. There was definitely a time when I said as soon as I'm done with college I'm gone!! I wanted to go out west more than anything. Now I couldn't see myself living anywhere else. There is a lot to do here. We have some amazing restaurants and small concert venues. There are museums and science centers. You can't beat going to a Steeler or Penguin game. And even though our Pittsburgh Pirates stink, we have an amazing baseball field! Economy is a little slow. There are jobs to be had, but hard to find. I was really lucky when I got hired here at MyCoupons

When will you move to Pittsburgh? Any idea what part you are moving to?

I dont know a whole lot about Pittsburgh but I do know how great it is to go see a Steelers home game and how jealous I am of you that you are going to live there.

We loved the city when we visited and the kids liked all the bridges and the inclines.

Hope that you are able to get some good advice from the members that live there! Hey, maybe you should see if Mycoupons is hiring!!

I live a couple hours north of Pittsburgh. I don't know what it's rated now, but I know it has gotten on lists of the top cities to live in. We make a lot of day trips to games, plays, shopping....and the airport. The Post Gazette has great coupon supplements.

The burgh is great, little NYC....lol
All the little suburbs around Pitt are also nice..... let us know what part you plan on looking to make your home.
Good Luck .Irish!

Actually I live in Ohio, but on the boarder of Pa, and WV I can walk to either state line, may take me an hour or so, but its not that far at all.

Penn Hills or Observatory Hills seem to be areas of interest. I told DH I want to get the police reports that tell about crime and things. Home prices start very low, I've noticed. it will also depend on his commute time, schools, and things like that. I saw snow in some of house pictures, too.

Since dh is from Pgh, we'll be retiring there most likely. We've been there several times so I'm somewhat familiar w/ some of the neighborhoods. Observatory Hill has some great huge stately houses, however, it is on the fringes of some not so nice areas. I like just north of Pgh in the Ben Avon to Sewickley areas. I was just doing some research the other day and Pgh ranked in number one in places to live, number 2 for computer geeks ; etc. It's ranks high all over the charts. Moreover, the crime rates are a lot lower compared to similarly sized cities. It's like a small town atmosphere due to all the different neighborhoods. Housing also costs 60 percent less than comparable cities according to reports I just read.

Glad to hear you'll be moving to the best city in the country! We've lived in Dayton, KC, Jackson MS and love being back home again. We live south of the city although my wife and I both grew up in the north hills. MC world HQ is located in Green Tree which is just to the west of the city.

Home prices here are very reasonable, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised about how much you can buy with your money. I just wish you were looking for a house in Upper St. Clair because our house has been on the market since last April

You'll find a small city with a small town attitude. The people are friendly and as another poster pointed out the crime rates are low when compared to similar cities.
