I have been married a little over a year and my attendants planned the best game for my shower. Prior to the shower, they asked my husband 20 questions and taped his responses. They then asked me the same questions and I was supposed to say the same thing he did. They then played his answers. If our answers didn't match, I had to put a piece of bubble gum in my mouth. I ended up with 9 pieces of gum in my mouth by the end of the game (not entirely my fault, I will say, as some of his answers were WRONG!). The questions were things like, "what did you do on your first date?" "what attracts you to her?" ".if she were an animal, what would she be?" "what is the most romantic thing you've ever done for her", etc. We also had the videographer for the wedding tape the bridal shower so we have the whole thing on tape. It is so funny. They didn't get me Trident for the gum. They got me Bubblicious, so I'm trying to talk through this gigantic wad of gum in my mouth. If you don't have a way to video answers, you could just write down what he says.... The funniest part for us, though, was that they asked some questions about our personal life (tastefully) and DH was saying on video, "Oh man, my sister and my mom are going to be there....." His mom was laughing so hard, she was crying...

We also designed wedding dresses out of toilet paper. My maid of honor and I were the models and everyone else did the designing. We had feathers, pipe cleaners, paper flowers, beads, glue, etc. and set a time limit. It was a lot of fun, too.

I really don't remember any favorites - I just remember them all being corny and dumb at any bridal shower I ever attended or hosted. Although the one where do you have ____________ in your purse? isn't too bad.

I have to agree -- I can't remember the last bridal (or baby) shower that I attended that had games. They're pretty much a thing of the past around here.

Don't play games. Those are for little kid's parties.

I am planning on playing games, thank you very much for the idea of the question game, sounds fun. Any others? Most people enjoy doing something while waiting for the bride to be.

Here's a couple that I think you'll like:

The first one is something that the bride & groom can enjoy for years to come. Give each guest (and yourself included) a nice piece of paper. Have each guest write a suggestion or a hint or advice on how to have a great marriage for years to come. They sign their names and then you take individual envelopes (without looking at the advice) and put each one in a different envelope (sealed). Put a year on it, starting with the year they'll celebrate their first anniversary and follow on with the next year, and the next. Put them in a nice little box or whatever you want to give the bride to keep them in. Then every year the couple opens up the envelope for that year on their anniversary. We did this for my son and his bride a couple of years ago and they love it. They've been married two years and both years that was one of the things they looked forward to!! If you have a lot of people (or if you don't), maybe tell whoever is giving her another show and have them do it too and just add on to the year you left off.

Another one is if you haven't sent out your invitations yet, add a recipe card and have each person write their favorite recipe on it for the bride. Have them bring their recipe to the party, put them in a box and draw a recipe out and that person receives a 'favor'. Then the bride has some good recipes. When I did this for my daughter-in-law, I added a recipe book for her. She loved it.

Just thought of another one. "How Well Do You Know the Bride and Groom?" Some people may not know the groom as well as the bride or vice versa. We asked questions like
Where does the bride work? Groom work? Where did the groom propose to the bride? How long have they been dating? Where did they meet? We ended up having about 15 or 20 questions. The person, of course, with the most right answers wins the game. It was a lot of fun. I think we did multiple choice too, to give people an edge. You'll be surprised at what can really confuse people!!

When is the party? I'll keep thinking of more!

Another one that we did at a party that I attended recently was kind of fun as an icebreaker, as most people didn't know each other. Upon arrival, the hostess taped a piece of paper to the back of each guest with a name of a famous person on it. You had to go around to other guests and ask questions to try to guess who you "were". Some of the people were Laura Bush, Angelina Jolie, Oprah, Maya Angelou, Mother Teresa, Julia Roberts, etc. It was actually pretty fun, but you would definitely need to make sure that you tailored it to your guests. I've also heard of doing that game using the guests when people know each other better. The rules there change a bit - can't use proper names.... example - how many kids do I have? Usually, you can only ask each guest one question (to make sure you meet people), but again, make the rules up that will work for your guests. I hope you enjoy the shower. Personally, I think the games make it fun.

I'd pass on the games, luckily I've not been to many where they wanted to play them. Newfun4me's idea we had sorta played before at a geocaching event, you had to find the person with the cache in their pocket

I hate games -- HOWEVER - I second the recipe card - not any recipe but the one that the family member is known for - the one they bring to all the family functions-- I had this at my shower(20 years ago) - I now have keepsakes - hand written by family members that have passed on - esp my granmother and my husband's grandmother - In fact when Grandma Betty passed away - after the funeral we had everyone back to my MIL's house - I made her special cookies - melting moments - and made copies of the recipe card that was in her pretty writing with a special Love Grandma Betty on it - everyone cherishes that recipe - she made these little tea cookies for every occasion with the icing tinted to match the decorations - ie pink and blue for baby showers. Now we mke them to remember her.
