Do You Think This Is Odd?

I've been reading about the missing Marine who's eight months along in her pregnancy. The sheriff made an odd remark:

"This young Marine is watching the unfolding of this investigation, which leads us to believe he has an interest in this," Brown said.

The young Marine to whom he refers, is the missing woman's roomate. I assume they have something else that leads them to believe that he's involved in her disappearance (the assault allegation?). I'm not quite sure what the sheriff means by saying he's been "watching the unfolding of this investigation".

The remark still puzzles me. I don't understand why he finds that particular behaviour so suspicious. I don't understand why that, in itself, is an indicator of guilt. It's not like he's a stranger who's too curious, he lived with her.

Why wouldn't a roomate have an interest in the case? If your roomate disappeared, wouldn't you take an interest in the investigation? I know I would.

From what I read there was a lot going on there.

She was set to testify against a superior officer, she had a falling out with her stepmother about what the best thing for the baby would be, and it's my understanding that women near their due are targets for kidnapping.

Seems like the room mate is just one direction they should be looking.

Of course I'm no Miss Marple

I just read online that she was set to testify about a superior officer whom she claimed raped her. Her step-mom also is stating that she is bipolar and a liar. I dont know how much merit I would put into the step moms description of the woman seeing as they have had a falling out recently. Also, if you are found to be bipolar would they even allow you to stay in the Marines??

Anyhow, I think there is a lot more of this case that is going to come out. Sadly, I have a feeling that the girl is probably been harmed. I sure hope that I am wrong.

Quote from a story today...

Investigators have said that a withdrawal from Lauterbach's bank account was made on December 14 and there was "suspicious activity" on the account 10 days later. Police reports said Lauterbach's ATM card was used at a Marine Federal Credit Union by a man who attempted to cover the surveillance camera with a rag while he withdrew money from her account.

A search warrant released with the other documents Thursday seeks Western Union records, saying authorities have reason to believe Lauterbach may be receiving financial support through money transfers.

Maybe they think it was him?

Hope the baby is alright and getting the medical care it needs if she's already given birth.

If the male friend is hiding her out somewhere ,I don't blame him one bit since she is suppose to testify against that officer,it puts her and the babys life at risk. I'm thinking she is hiding out somewhere for her and the babys safety.

It would seem to me (and this is just my opinion) that she's hiding out because she lied about the rape. I think she's is mentally ill, and has had a psychotic break.

That is so sad. I was just comming on here to say that I dont understand how her mother could go and bash her daughter by putting it all over the media that her daughter was a compulsive liar and how she told her to put the baby up for adoption. That unborn baby was her grandchild. I didn't hear the mother say one positive thing like "Please come home, we can help you" "We miss you and love you " etc. Just all negativity came from her. I would never tell anyone let alone the media if my daughter was a compulsive liar. I certainly would never tell my child they couldnt care for a baby and to put it up for adoption. Their child would be my grandchild and if they couldn't care for the baby then I would.

I agree, it sounds like to me the stepmom was possibly looking at ways to get custody of the child herself which would explain why she fled, that and the court testimony problem.
