Really BAD (Fashion) News OH NO

I so love the Empire waist low cut tops in style in 2007. I am now watching "The View" and this lady is showing the new spring styles and she said the Empire waists are sooo 2007! Boo hoo. I can get away with wearing them for the spring and summer but that's it. There is nothing worse than an older woman hanging on to some out of style clothes, shoes, hair, or makeup. It is soo sad!!!

At least the new high belted style looks flattering but I am oh so going to miss the low cut Empire waists!!!

I, for one, am so tired of this constant switching of what is in/out this minute.
Obviously it is to get you to replace your wardrobe. I would guess, though, that the style will continue on in the heartland of America for a while ...her concern would be LA or NY.

I saw that the runways were showing high waisted pants after the stylists just laughed and laughed at anybody who was wearing them the past couple of years. Now magically, they are OK???

The other thing that just amazes me is that the showing of bra straps ( and actual bras) is fine but visible panty lines are such a no-no that everybody should be wearing strings up their rear end in the form of thongs.

sigh......

Good thing I dont feel I have to be wearing the IN thing of the moment. The low rise jeans or whatever their called I just want to put on my "outdoor voice" and tell them their cracked showing everytime they move or that that their thongs hanging out that no one cares to see what fancy little design they wanted to wear that day.

nothing against you OP, hang onto them, they maybe back next year and you would save the cost to replace them and you'd already have ones you like.

Well I work with the public and I have to look somewhat current. I have noticed in recent years as I have become more "modern" and "youthful" in my hair, makeup and clothes that people treat me differently. I have actually gained confidence and become more successful. It's just the way the world is. And I have always noticed other people and how they look.
Some things are classic you can wear all the time but honestly if you live and/or work in any type of metro area and you are competing for jobs, sales, or whatever you will be more widely accepted and moved forward if you appear modern.

Wow - if I was so up-to-date that I was even caught in wearing something that was *gasp* straight out of 2007, then I'd be doing pretty good!

I do know what op means - she's right about needing to stay current if she's in a particular field/area where that's noticed. But where I am, if I'm in the same decade, I'm lucky I can rest assured.

I need to add that I am totally making fun of myself, not op - I really am very fashion clueless - my kids would be proud if I was wearing anything that was even in stores last year!

I totally agree. Glad that's not my situation. You could probably get away with wearing them out and about though instead of at work

I don't see anyone laughing. In fact it seems like a lot of posters understand your viewpoint and even agree with you.

I saw the show and IMO most of the "in" clothes were ugly.

I, too, tire of these changing styles. What's hot, what's not, what's in, what's out.
To each his own though.

If they look good on me and feel comfortable , I will continue wearing the clothes that I like.
I don't care what the fashion experts say!
I didn't like a lot of last seasons fashions. Ugly prints!

If you like them and can afford them that is fine. But keeping up with styles is a waste of $$'s that many people can't afford to spend.

If I'm actually trying, I pay attention to British fashion, since it seems to be a couple of years ahead of American fashion. Do remember that when trying to make predictions, even experts can get it wrong, or be ignored by so many people the information never becomes true. Remember how they keep saying lipgloss is going out of fashion? I did get some empire waist tops, and then found out I was pregnant, so I'm keeping them for now!

I say wear what looks good on you, and not what is "in"

I do normally buy a few new items every year but only ones that look good on my body. When they brought back pencil jeans, I surely didn't run out and buy a pair with my thunder thighs!!! Same thing with the hipster jeans....I have a butt and unless people wanted to see my underwear (non thong) then it wasn't going to happen.

Now as for empire waist shirts, I own two or three and I will probably continue to wear them because they make me feel sexy and make the girls look good without implants So until some one laughs and points at me, making me feel bad about how I dress...I'll continue dressing in the clothes that make me feel good about my body.

I so agree.

Nothing looks sillier than a woman wearing something just because it's "in" -- and she looks ridiculous in it

Maybe not sillier, but I think older woman who dress like they are teenagers look pretty silly!
...and those who don't realize that spandex is a privilege, not a right! (stole cashchik's line )

Those empire tops make me look like I'm sixth months pregnant. I'm glad the're going out of style. Although, I do have to admit they do look adorable on my 9 year old DD.

I am not a fan of these tops, to me (my opinion only so no one take offense) everyone looks like they are wearing maternity clothes. My 12 year old has a couple though.

I love those tops, but I have to agree...they make me look six months pregnant too! I guess once you pass 40, empire waists are a no-no unless you want to look like you are expecting. I like to wear things that are in style, but I'm not a slave to it. I love anything leopard print, my red flat patent leather shoes, and my cream colored shaggy fur vest...I like to wear things that are different and express my personality. Here in the burbs of Atlanta, alot of women dress the same...the little tennis skirts, with the tiny pearl or diamond earrings, little baseball cap...BLAH! Why be like everyone else? To me that is so boring, but whatever floats your boat I guess. ~Lisa

Well it's not a matter of being trendy or wearing what everyone wears or dressing like a teenager. I started this thread partially in fun but I do like those tops they look really good on me and they don't make me look pregnant.

Yes wear what looks good on you but I stand by my original statement that it is very sad to see an older woman wearing something out of date. Most of us liked stretch pants and big tops for obvious reasons but if you are still wearing them that is sad. If we all just wore what looks good on us clothes, hair, makeup without paying any attention to the style there would be a lot of women walking around with hairstyles and clothes from the 60s, 70s 80s and 90s.

Most people would settle on the time they went to high school or their early 20s. That would be sad and scary. I say thank goodness we have some style and fashion.

I think it is very important to stay in style according to your age. I do think that it is important to wear what compliments your figure and also is in style. I don't dress like a teenager but always look fashionable and trendy. It did take me a while to get rid of the 80's poofy hair. I have 3 daughters and 2 are teens and it's amazing how much younger the Moms that keep up with the trends look. It drives me crazy to see the blazers with the huge shoulder pads and the leggins you know the 80's look I am talking about and yes I have these in my attic God ask me why. I also have a job where some days I can be in sweats but on other days in the public I need to look polished and up to date because I am in sales. I also think it is good for your self esteem to dress up to date so your don't feel frumpy. If a style is out and it doesn't flatter my figure I won't buy it but pick out something else thats trendy that does.

at my dd's high school these shirts were considered 'out' almost as soon as they were 'in' a year or 2 years ago -
dd said anytime a girl came to school in one of those they were teased about wearing maternity clothes

yeah these shirts would definitely make me look pregnant too lol

but they look nice on some people, so if they look nice and you like them, why not wear them! go for it
