Personally, for the back of the house and less formal spaces, I think less - or none - is more. I took the curtains out of my family room and kitchen and like it so much better. I love sun-drenched rooms. But I'm not a decorating maven by any stretch of the imagination! LOL

I love love love your windows! I so wish we had that.

Were it me, I'd put window shades, with an inside fit. I'd get a light colored, possibly creme. This would filter the light during the day, and you'd have privacy during the night. I would not use drapes; I feel the windows are too pretty to cover and IMO it would be too cluttery.

This is the closest example I could find:

How about balloon shades, or roman shades? I had balloon shades made for my bay window and LOVE them...

If you want something you can close, I agree with roman shades with a little valance. i put them in all 3 bedrooms, which have big sliding glass doors. I love them. They look pretty raised, and can be closed for privacy. If you don't need privacy, I'd just use a little valance.

I agree I love the light, but I guess it would depend upon who can look in. If you are bordering on a woods beyond your deck then I would be a minimalist. If there is a neighbor over there, then I would probably put up the cafe curtain type. The cafe curtain positioned from the middle of the window down would give you the light streaming in from the top pane but would give you privacy below. I would want to sit at the table in my nothings if I wanted to! When you are standing by your table, how high is the center of that window? Would "you" be covered from the outside prying eyes? If you went with a simple tenson rod inside each window- you could play with lengths of fabric for a cheap experiment. IMHO.

I would probably do a light color sheet curtain. You can use tension rods for an inside mount in each window. That's what I have in my kitchen. At some point, I'll probably get some valances for each window, but for now the sheers by themselves work just fine. The light still comes through, but it's harder for people to see in.

You might try posting on HGTV's Rate My Space --I found the best advice from their "viewer decorators" when I was revamping my kitchen.

I would put curtains on the bottom half of the windows and a valance on the tops.
I know that's pretty typical but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!!!

I like the custom roman shades. We have these in our house, and they match the wall color. They came w/ the house. They look nice down, or when you want them up, you can vary the height-when I pull them up, I usually leave about a 1foot header-this looks really nice. Are you keeping the wood trim, or will you be painting that?
