I donated my hair today

How many of you have donated hair to Locks of Love? I got 11 inches cut off on Friday...it'll go out in the mail tomorrow.

Who was it that was planning on shaving her head for charity in March?

And, mabear...does DH know yet?

Congrats to you! That is so awesome. I'll fess up, I am going to have my head shaved for St. Baldrick's Day in March. Here is the link to the organization. I have not registered yet, but it is March 15th.

St. Baldrick's Foundation - Welcome

Some of the ppl last year actually were able to donate to locks of love, and then have the rest of their head shaved. How cool is that?

I've donated twice. Once it was right around 11 inches and last year I for my birthday I donated almost 16 inches.

It's such a great organization and a wonderful feeling to know it's going to help some little girl.

Congratulations freer! What a wonderful organization to donate to. My oldest dd was going to but went to get a "trim" so we never told the lady cutting her hair and when the "trim" was over she had cut about 8 inches. I think you have to have a 10 inch minimum to donate but after 8 inches taken off my dd will have to let it grow a little longer. She still has plenty of hair but 10 inches at this point would be more than I'm wanting to cut. However, had I of known she was going to take 8 inches off, we would have taken another 2 and donated. One day she will though.

I donated two thick 16 inch ponytails back in October took people weeks to figure out all my hair was gone which was amazing people did give me odd looks LOL. I donated it in memory of my friend Gin who lost her fight with adrenal cancer in july she used to donate her hair to locks of love before the cancer came back, she loved children and not being able ot have them she felt it was the best thing she could do, I am going to grow it out again after Tax Season and donate again. DH is finally at the min to donate so he will be getting his hair chopped soon.

I donated 17 inches to Locks Of Love about three years ago. I wish I'd known about the St. Baldricks thing before I started shaving my head a few years ago - I have a feeling the 1/4 inch I grow each week before shaving again wouldn't count

I wish once in my life I would have had enough hair to donate!!! I have the finest, thinest hair around and it's thinning with age. Once my hairdresser was telling me that the thickness of the hair strand thins with age and I asked if mine could get thinner and she said no, it would disappear!!! lol My friends with the 9 kids donate their hair when they grow it long. Kudos to all of you who do it!

I donate mine when it gets long enough for me to cut it and still have it below my shoulders. I noticed last week I was starting to sit on it again so its about time to do it. It is a good feeling to be able to do it. Great organization.

I just donated 14 inches for the second time 2 weeks ago. It was great all around. I had won a haircut at a new place and DH decided to go with me. When I told them I was donating they told me it was free and that DH could use the free cut certificate.

Talk about a win win situation all around!

A friend of mine started letting her hair grow when I got sick the first time. Took her 2 years to get it long enough to donate. It's such a wonderful gift.

Thanks for sharing the Pantene link. I didn't know about it. It's nice to know they take 8", as that might be easier for some people.

Thats why I did it, I wasnt sure how much hair I would have in a ponytail. After she cut it off I was truly shocked. My hair is long in the front and short short in the back. this to a girl who is always in a jaw clip or ponytail. Oh well, its only hair.
I saw one of the other vendors where I work today. I hadnt seen her in a long time..she just came back after a mastectomy. She was such a positive woman, and made such a big deal about my hair. we had the discussion, "its only a boob" and that s what I thought each time I got my hair cut like that....its only hair. I am glad I still qualify (less than 5% grey ...i pluck em out LOL)

My dd has donated twice. She has thick, blonde, curly hair. Both times the women said that they could make two wigs out of her hair. She was talking about doing it again. The place that does it only does it on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
