Angry Yikes, my checking acct. was hacked!

Thank goodness I got the call from my bank regarding suspicious behavior on the website. Someone had been denied access to my information and locked out of my acct. Well, I went to look @ it online-someone had made four unauthorized transactions from the acct., a total of approx. $7000. Thankfully my bank was on the ball. I've been on the phone w/ their security dept. all day, but they have already reversed the charges. I need to go into the branch and fill out fraud forms tomorrow. I hope those ppl are caught-it really p*sses me off-this is $$ that DH and I have worked so hard for, and while it might not be a lot to some, we would have been really hard up w/o it. So, be extra careful-where and when you log onto your bank accts.

That's awful! Do you know how they got to your bank account? Did they use your debit card number? Just wondering because so many people (including myself) use their debit card at the gas pumps and grocery stores because it's so much faster.

My friend just went through the same thing. They got one of her checks somehow...we still haven't figured that out. They paid their Electric bill and tried to pay off a Bank of America loan for $5000.00. She had gone online late one night and saw she was negative 200.xx. Poor thing is 60 years old and couldn't sleep at all that night, she got it straighten out but the bank couldn't figure out how they had gotten one of her checks. It's just too easy for these people anymore.

No, someone physically went online and made the transactions and did it as electronic payments-like it was me paying a bill online. So far, all I know is that one was from Chicago, and two were from Columbus. The security ppl have restricted my acct., and I have to call them back tomorrow to let them know I've totally upgraded all my security devices/virus protection, etc. Like I said, I am just so thankful to my bank for acting so fast.

At the beginning of Dec. my SO's checking acct. was debited for almost $300 from a place I didn't recognize so I immediatly called the bank. They were very quick to start a fraud investigation and the only thing we had to do was file a report with the local PD and return some paperwork to the bank stating that he did not have any knowledge of the transaction nor had he profitted from it.
The local detective has kept us up to date with what he learns. They believe it was someone from a business that my SO used his debit card at that had a handheld card scanner. So now the routine is to either swipe our cards ourselves or follow the server/clerk and watch them swipe it. And immediatly return it to the wallet.
