Anyone else think Caphalon is a big waste of $$$???

I'm pretty frugal, so I don't know what made me start collecting Caphalon pots & pans. I've had them for a few years now and they look like hell!!! Meanwhile my faberware & revereware that is 50 years old (it was my grandmothers) looks almost new. They (Caphalon) are so so heavy too. I'm sorry we wasted mooney on those stupid pots.

I've never had anything that I know of from caphalon, but the revereware my mom handed down to me is still going strong and I have a farberware pan I bought at K-mart when I first got married in '98 that is still in very good shape.

Do you put it in the dishwasher? I have a set that was 400-500 probably 5 years ago.. with the solid metal lids.. I handwash them and they still look good. But I think I'd rather have cast iron...

I have some Calphalon and also Circulon that doesn't look all that great now either after only a few years of use (but I do use it constantly so...). I did not start out putting it in the dishwasher, I babied it for a few years and it was still going downhill fast. Actually putting it in the dishwasher has gotten a lot of the nasty discoloration off the backs, haha. I didn't spend big bucks though, bought most of it on clearance at Kohls or Amazon.com cheap. My cheaper T-Fal that I've had for 15 years looks just as good as the expensive stuff.

I also have a large set of RevereWare that I got as a wedding gift 14 years ago that still looks brand new! I use it daily. I am actually planning on adding to that collection next time I see a good deal on RevereWare. I am seriously probably going to buy the Member's Mark line that Sam's Club has for my next non-stick purchase. They seem nicely made with silicon grips, heavy weight, and all...(any opinions on that are welcome from you guys that have it?!). They are nicely priced too. Add me to the list of people that are "so over the expensive cookware" haha. Live & learn I suppose. Still love all my Kitchenaid stuff though, but I don't have any Kitchenaid cookware, maybe I will give it a try.

I have a nonstick Caphalon pan. I have often wondered what was supposed to be so good about it. I also use T-Fal from WalMart. I don't put any of my pans in the dishwasher. The Caphalon one is much heavier than the T-Fal. It has a minor scrath down the center of it, but I usually wait until they're pretty scratched up before I replace them. I don't have any trouble tossing the T-Fal after they need replacing because they're so cheap to replace. I'll have to see about the Caphalon. I know I don't want anymore after it's gone. I really wanted it when I got it, but have not seen any benefit to it over the cheap stuff.

I bought a Calphalon sauce pan to give it a try about 10 years ago. I didn't want anything that couldn't go in the dishwasher but thought if I liked it enough I might wash by hand. Well my husband put it in the dishwasher and I then had a warped saucepan. That was the end of that. I didn't really like it anyway. After that I bought Cuisinart Cookware, the nonstick kind and I've been happy with it. They discontinued the kind I have. It has a copper plate in the bottom with stainless steel cladding on the top and bottom and then a nonstick coating on the interior. It really does conduct heat well. I have to use a much lower temp with it than I do with the other pans that I have. They discontinued the copper part a few years ago and so I can't tell you how the new version does. But generally I think Calphalon is very overrated.

I have the original Calphalon that was purchased for us as a wedding gift over 20 years ago. It's kinda discolored and I don' t like using the fry pans because the are not non-stick and they have the metal handles that get hot. I use my big stock pot and the smaller sauce pans all the time though.

I have to say that what I use the most is some stupid Farberware with non-stick surface and silicone handles that I got on clearance at Amazon. I think both frypans were $10 total....lol

I have both Circulon and Caphalon. I prefer Circulon. I do not like TFal nor Farberware. I never put my pots and pans in the dishwasher. I also never stack them inside one another. My Circulon looks almost brand new.

I'm going back to my Farberware & Revereware exclusively. I think we got into the Caphalon stuff when we both had full time jobs & no kids and money to throw away!!!

Are there different qualities of calphalon, such as what is sold at target versus Macy's? Commericial vs. something lesser quality with the name of Calphalon on it? I also don't believe anything with a tephlon coating lasts long. My experience anyway.

I totally agree. I have some very nice le crueset non-stick frying pans that have not held up well at all. I think non stick anything no matter how nice just does not hold up.

I hate non stick period. I had Calphalon and also member's mark (back from before I boycotted WM and Sams). I've had revere ware and I didn't like any of them.

My fave is Wolfgang Puck stainless steel. I dishwasher it..not problem and looks great after 5 years of use. I also like le cruset....great but pricey and HEAVY.

Yes, there are. The Calphalon sold at Target is the not same line as what you would find at a store like Williams-Sonoma.

Same goes for Henckles knives.

And just an FYI, Teflon is a name brand nonstick, not all nonstick is Teflon. A quality non stick pan, like All Clad, should last indefinately if treat correctly.

It's Cooks Essentials from QVC for me ALL the way.
I have never had any of the above mentioned brands but I have seen them advertised many times from a number of well known stores. I KNOW my Cooks Essentials will stand up to any of the high priced pots and pans for a fraction of the cost.
Cooks Essentials is coated with Dupont scratch guard coating. It is metal utensil safe. It is dishwasher safe although I wash mine by hand because it hangs on the wall and I want to hand dry them so they are not water spotted.
And, they are NOT a throw away type pan. If they fail in any way they have a lifetime warrenty.
I have the 18/10 stainless steel but they also have several other styles, all of which have the non scratch coating and all with the same lifetime warrenty.
Check them out on QVC.com or watch In The Kitchen With Bob at noon on Sundays.

Wow. I thought it was just me. My fiance just had to have caphalon pots and pans and I only hand wash and can't get the nasty look off the bottoms. They always look dirty no matter what I've tried as if oil or something baked into them. I had been using my farberware but he wanted non stick and I threw out the non stick tfal long ago because the coating was flaking off. Lo and behold my small caphalon saucepan is losing it's coating and I try not to use metal utensils with it. BTW these were purchased less than 2 years ago at Linens and things and were not cheap. I wish someone had a solution to get them clean please let us know!

I agree..I love mine...use it daily! Well worth the money I paid and would buy more...I got a large set and it has did everything I have needed it to do and more. I never put pots in the diswasher anyway so no idea how they would stand up. I have the red set.
I have a pan my Mother had she got at a fair..there was more to the set but no idea what happened to it..it has no name on it or mark I can find..was in one of the booths they demonstrate things...there is nothing that will stick to that pan! If I can ever figure out what kind of pan it is I am going to get more...at least the baking ones..
And I have tons of Corelle baking dishes, mine and hers....married 23 years I don't think I have bought a pan or baking dish now in over 10 years.

Does anyone know if they sold Circulon on the circuit like with demos for people? Because that looks like the roaster pan I have without the roaster rack and it was a silver color...Mama got it back in the 80's..it has some blacking to it know but I have never worried about what my pans look like...Mama always told me a good pan always looked well used..LOL

I have a caphlon omelatte pan and I just love it, It gets used 3 -4 times daily and it stills looks like it is brand new. It was bought at bb&b. The rest of my pots are divided between member's maek and farberware and I like my member's mark much better.

I'm feeling a little out of the loop here - I have mismatched pieces of this and that - couple Visions pots, a non-stick skillet, some other big soup pan. Does anyone else NOT have all matching cookware? I guess I just never spent money on a huge set of cookware.

Don't worry, Kathy. Sometimes I don't even have matching socks.

My cookware is a combination of what I've bought a little at a time through the years. I buy a piece that's a good deal, or a piece (usually pottery) that I think is pretty, and constantly throw away what is getting on my nerves because it's dirty looking, not heating evenly or I just don't use it.

None of it has impressed me enough to buy a whole set.

I have been married for over 40 years and seldom throw anything away, so I have sets, (bought because sometimes that was cheaper than a few individiual pieces), odd pieces, (like my one piece of Calphalon bought to see if I liked it), and gifts of sets. I have pieces left of a set I got for a wedding gift. They were cheap and have the old original teflon in them, and don't get used very often anymore. But that old teflon works so much better, even now, than the new stuff.

While my kids were growing up that's all I had too, was odds and ends all mismatched.
But I promised myself when my kids were all gone from home I'd get myself a good set of pots and pans.
Hense, the Cooks Essentials. Top notch quality with discount store prices. Lifetime warrenty and extra add on pans available.
I figured after all the years of cooking with hand me down pans, I now deserved the very best.

I started marriage almost 30 yrs ago with a matching set of Club Aluminum. Actually it was individual pieces bought at a salvage outlet. I have all pieces except for the big dutch oven. I've never had a need for a dutch oven and all sets come with one. I've still got my original pieces and they're still going strong. Over the years I've purchased pancake griddles and T-Fal nonstick fry pans as needed. I usually get my T-Fal at TJ Maxx.

I agree 100%! I just gave away my wedding Calphalon after 11 years. I couldn't stand how heavy they were and the non-stick surface was wearing away. I'm happy with my new (cheap) QVC cookware.

I actually bought my first calphalon pan yesterday.

I think it is great. Used it last night to make vegs. This is the one on Amazon for $19.99 reg. $99. My only complaint is the handle is very long so the pan does not fit in my sink for soaking. I also like the white box the pan came in. Perfect for sending my ds a CARE package !
