My deepest condolences to those who were rooting for the Chargers 'cuz the Patriots are 18-0 and the AFC champions! WooHoo! Moroney was HOT today!

I hope that the Giants win the other game. Why? Well, becuase I bought one of those airblown football players at Target after-Christmas sale last year and the only one I could find was NY Giants. I just sent it and a bunch of Pats gear, along with snacks and stuff, off to a unit that I support in Iraq....and would it be so cool if those two teams ended up in it.

I don't care anymore since the Colts lost, but I don't get the whole Pats thing.

If it was college ball, they'd have been suspended from any playoffs when they got caught cheating. I think they should've been suspended/banned from the playoffs for at least a season.

Boy, that's EXACTLY how I feel. I can't believe how everyone thinks they're so great after getting caught cheating. I turn the channel when they're on or even when they're being talked about. BOO!!

I am a big pats fan. I don`t see why some of you don`t get it. They are the greatest football team. They proved it this year. They got caught with a camara. caught is the word here. They all do it. That was the 1st or 2nd game. How did they cheate after that. If you listened to Tom Bradey talk you could not help

but like him. He is so down to earth.

I like the Eagles too. I`ts my 2nd team but I love the Pats. They did not get here by cheating they are great and I`m so glad they are playing New York. New England and New York have always been rivals.

The Patriots are so well coached. Many associated with the NFL think that Tom Brady could very well be the best quarterback ever. I think that the Pats are going to kick the Giants butts!

I dunno. I read the rule and felt it was subject to (mis)interpretation. But then I'm not a lawyer, and I don't play one on TV either. You can hate them and be spiteful, but that doesn't change the fact that both the team and their coach play an outstanding game of football time and again. You just don't go 18-0 without being fantastic.

JMHO as the mom of a Ravens fan - LOL.

My son who now lives in Chicago and has Bears season tickets, I think was secretly hoping that the Packers would win. But it was not in the cards.

Nit: I'm not sure if you're talking to me but since you quoted me, you'll note that I said they were fantastic, played and coached an outstanding football game, and were 18-0 this season. I don't follow football enough today or historically to be in a position to call them the best team ever. Certainly, there are a lot of psychological factors that can come in to play - commentator input, odds, off-the-court/field personal issues, trash talk, etc. That the Patriots were able to move forward after the taping incident is telling of their character, IMO (and I don't expect anyone to agree with it

).

Teams have forfeited first-round picks before, sent to other teams as compensation in tampering cases, but no team has ever lost a first-round pick as an outright punishment. No team will receive the draft pick or picks the Patriots will forfeit.

“This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field,” Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to the Patriots.

Belichick, who on Wednesday seemed to acknowledge wrongdoing without admitting it, last night accepted full responsibility for the incident.

“Once again, I apologize to the Kraft family and every person directly or indirectly associated with the New England Patriots for the embarrassment, distraction and penalty my mistake caused,” he said in a statement, referring to the Patriots’ owners. “I also apologize to Patriots fans and would like to thank them for their support during the past few days and throughout my career.

“As the commissioner acknowledged, our use of sideline video had no impact on the outcome of last week’s game. We have never used sideline video to obtain a competitive advantage while the game was in progress.

“Part of my job as head coach is to ensure that our football operations are conducted in compliance of the league rules and all accepted interpretations of them. My interpretation of a rule in the constitution and bylaws was incorrect.”

N.F.L. policy prohibits videotaping opposing coaches giving signals. Last year, the N.F.L.’s executive vice president of football operations, Ray Anderson, sent a memo to teams reminding them of the rule. The memo is believed to have been generated in part by suspicions that the Patriots had videotaped coaches at several games last season.

Goodell does not believe that the Patriots’ owner, Robert K. Kraft, was aware of Belichick’s actions. But Goodell penalized the franchise anyway because, Goodell said, Belichick has “substantial control over all aspects of New England’s football operations.”

The Patriots, who acquired several big-name players in the off-season, are considered one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season. If they lose a first-round pick, the blow will be cushioned because they will have another, which they received in an off-season trade with San Francisco.

Still, the impact of losing the high draft picks could damage the franchise for years and could even outlast Belichick’s tenure as head coach. His contract status is a tightly held secret. Nobody is even sure if he is signed past this season, and Kraft and Belichick have both danced around the question of how long Belichick would stay on. But draft picks, particularly early-round ones, are the cornerstone of teams seeking long-term success. During his time in New England, Belichick and his top staff have been adept at hoarding picks and drafting well.

“I specifically considered whether to impose a suspension on Coach Belichick,” Goodell wrote. “I have determined not to do so, largely because I believe that the discipline I am imposing of a maximum fine and forfeiture of a first-round draft choice, or multiple draft choices, is in fact more significant and long-lasting, and therefore more effective, than a suspension.”

During his investigation, Goodell determined that because the tape was seized before the end of the first quarter, it did not affect the Patriots’ 38-14 victory over the Jets. But Goodell said that the N.F.L. would now monitor the Patriots’ video program.

It is perhaps no coincidence that the Patriots were caught during a game against the Jets, whose coach, Eric Mangini, was an assistant to Belichick before joining the Jets last season.

“We support the commissioner and his findings,” the Jets said in a statement. “The focus of our organization remains on the upcoming game against Baltimore.”

But the focus of the rest of the league this week has been on the Patriots, and their reputation has suffered. Less than two weeks ago, one of the leaders of their defense, safety Rodney Harrison, was suspended four games for using human growth hormone.

Now, the integrity of Patriots’ victories, even those three Super Bowl victories, have been called into question. Members of the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost a Super Bowl to the Patriots, wondered yesterday if the Patriots had stolen signals against them.

It is a question that figures to cloud the legacy of the Patriots and their coach for years.

This is commonly done in the NFL. Videotaping or stealing opposing teams' signals. The only difference is that the Patriots got caught.

Can you provide some support for that claim? As I understand it, stealing signals is not illegal; videotaping is.

I'm sure others are doing it, but it's the Patriots who have been suspected for sometime and got caught redhanded.

All I can say is that we know several people associated with the NFL in different capacities.
Some are in lower positions than others. It's just been common knowledge that this has happened in the past. Although I would think it would safe to say that most teams will definately think twice or find a different means after the Pats got caught using video.

WOW are you sour. They use to say that about your bears and i`m sure at that time you thought so, probably still do. Let us Pats fans have pride in our team. They are the greatist team ever and sorry but you will be hearing that for a long time.

They never crowned the Bears the best team ever that title is still held by the 1972 Dolphins....and in my mind the Dolphins will still be the best team ever, no matter what the outcome of the Superbowl is.

Obviously the cheating of the Pats have been ongoing for years, since Eric Mangini (coach of the NY Jets) reported them. Mangini prior to becoming NY coach worked for the Pats under Belichick, prior to that even worked under Belichick in Cleveland putting film together for the coordinators. Who really knows how long Belichick has been cheating.

If the offense knows how the opposing defense is going to play the next call it gives the offense play caller an advantage knowing if the secondary of the defense is going to be rushing or if they are going to fall back and cover down field. Knowing this gives a a huge advantage to the opposing team.

It's sad how people just can't admit how talented this team. They didn't cheat to be 18-0 it's skill to be able to win even when you don't have the best game. It is always tough to be on top because people are always jealous and try to bring you down and Bill Belicheck and Comany have proved them wrong

. Oh well here comes another Super Bowl because my Parade attire is waiting to be worn after the Championship here in Boston

. I did want to see Green Bay win because Brett Favre is a class act because I don't personally care for Eli Manning or his brother. Just my opinion....GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!

Thats the problem. The Pats and the Jets are big rivals thats why he reported them. No love lost between Belichick and Mangini.

As for the dolphins If we win the Superbowl then they lost that title and they only won 13 games in a row
-------------------before going to the superbowl.

Boy you are not going to budge on how you feel. The only other sports team I despise as much as you do the Pats are the cheating yankees.

No hard feeling because you feel the way you do and I feel the way I do and the Pats are great and even if they don`t win they will always be known for this year and not for cheating. I`m so glad every other sports team is so truthful and play by the rules.

There is something to be said about a team and fans that write themselves "okay" as long as they don't get "caught". Really classy and pretty pathetic!
