Not directly, but certainly indirectly! When my son was diagnosed, we were so scared, and wanting to explore all of our options. We are fortunate that we live 45mins. from an awesome Children's Hospital w/ a great oncology staff. As a matter of fact, one of my best friends since I was 12yrs. old, also works on the Hem/Onc floor. Anyway, we really felt comfortable there, but did ask if our son would get better treatment @St. Judes, or even Sloan-Kettering (known for Sarcomas). We were assured that our hospital followed a protocol that was dictated by St. Judes. As a matter of fact, our oncologist had been a Fellow @St. Judes, several years before. It is so wonderful to hear of the advances made in pediatric cancer. Unfortunately, in the cancer that my son had, (stage 4/rhabdomyosarcoma), the teenage survival rate has not improved a whole lot in many years. Thankfully, he had it in a more favorable site, and has a good prognosis. As far as the courgage goes-not so sure about that for me-more like a 42wk protocol of numbness and tears....But my son was amazing-he never complained ONCE-and it was pretty awful! But yes, I cannot thank St. Jude's enough, for what they did for my son-even though we never stepped foot in that hospital.

I think they are just the most wonderful hospital for children. I donate when i can to them. I will always be thankful for what they do for these kids with cancer.

I think you will find that the majority of children's hospitals are excellent--Of course, some are better known than others. That's generally because they provide some sort of specialized treatment for very specific illnesses and/or diseases. If ever one or both of my children were to experience a devastating illness or disease--I will be taking them to Arkansas Children's Hospital. The staff is wonderful, they are one of the leading providers for heart surgeries/ailments in children. They are also the only Burn unit (for children and adults) in the state of Arkansas. Not to mention their med flight service (Angel Flight) is phenomenal....
