| economic stimulus plan..good idea??
While most people would enjoy having extra money..this is only going to make things worst in the long-term. There is 0 money for this..it will either have to be borrowed (usually from China) or they will just print more money flooding the market and bringing the value of the dollar down. I urge people to phone your Rep. and Senator and let them know that we do not want a "band-aid fix" but a real economic reform. Taxpayers would get checks under economic stimulus plan - CNN.com "The stimulus package may face resistance from fiscal conservatives in both parties over worries that it would increase the federal debt. The talks are occurring as auditors report that the federal deficit -- the difference between what the government takes in and what it spends -- is increasing. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated Wednesday the deficit would jump to $250 billion, mainly because of a weakening economy. That estimate does not include any additional spending that would be part of a stimulus package." |

| ITA. Its a way to postpone the inevitable until he's out of office and the new administration will be left to pick up the pieces.

Sorry, but the Bush-haters can't pin this one solely on him. If you've watched the news any at all, you've seen Nancy Pelosi smiling ear to ear and pretty much acting like the whole thing was her idea. It takes two to tango, and both sides were strangely dancing together for this one. |

Bush Proposes $145 Billion Stimulus Plan - washingtonpost.com "President Bush called yesterday for a $145 billion stimulus package centered on tax breaks for consumers and businesses to rejuvenate the lagging U.S. economy, a move that drew unusual bipartisan praise on Capitol Hill but did not boost confidence on Wall Street. ..." I wish my party had not participated in it as I feel its an awful idea and is only postponing the day when we, as a country, have to face up to the fact that we are in deep financial trouble. |

That's how those things come down the pike - the White House proposes them, and congress gives them a thumbs up or down. Things don't happen in a vacuum, though. The White House rarely proposes things that they haven't already been discussing with leaders of congress behind closed doors. So yes, Bush's White House put it on the table (which is how things have to originate, officially), but we don't know if Bush was laying in bed one night and thought it up all by himself, or of Pelosi called and said, "Hey, if you'll propose this rebate thing I thought up, I'll make sure it passes through our side, and then we'll do a little quid pro quo with your war funding thing. Deal, George? Awesome!" Both sides are equally culpable, and we'll never know what went on behind closed doors to make it happen so swiftly. |

I don't know if it's a good idea or not. There are several things I don't like about it though, I don't like the fact that the more kids you have the more money you get, I think it should have been left per family or per single person. I also think the cut-off income limit is too high, maybe cut it off at $100,000 income. I know alot of people are going to save the money or use it to pay off bills which is not going to help the economy they way they are wanting it to be helped: for people to go out to eat, buy stuff etc. I am not a big fan of welfare/food stamps/public programs etc. however I do think those people should have also been included (also are people on unemployment included?) these are the people that will go out and stimulate the economy and spend the money, alot of lower income people don't have bank accounts, pay things with money orders, no savings, etc. if they are on public assistance you can only have so much assets, so it would be spent ASAP and not be kept as an asset. In all reality (to me) these would be the people that would benefit the most and would stimulate the economy (even if it is just buying food and clothing). I myself will be using ours to pay this years taxes, so we will not be stimulating the economy either, we could actually do without it but it will be nice to have, I just think that somehow lower income people should have also been included, maybe in some type of pro-rated type way if they really want to stimulate the economy. Anyway, I am not sure how it will affect us in the longrun. I will gladly take the money though, just don't quite agree with the way it's being divided out.

I don't know if people who are on public aide should receive it or not??? Some people are there because of some very poor choices they have made. Why should they be "rewarded" for those choices?? I do agree, these ARE the types that will typically go out and spend the money, and not save it, which is what the plan is intended for. I'm just going to wait and see if we get any money. If we do, that's fine, if we don't, well, we didn't have it in the first place, so, I guess we're no better or worse off than we were.

I'd much rather have the Fairtax in place so we wouldn't need to worry about who is getting what. Rebates to people who don't pay anything in is simply wealth redistribution. If I wanted to do that, I could hand out out my dollars to complete strangers much more efficiently than either Bush or Pelosi.
