Need info on Slingbox

Does anyone have a slingbox - a device you connect to your cable box so you can watch your home TV on your computer anywhere.

I really would like to find out how it works from someone who has one.

TIA!

Hi,
I need to know how it works on the computer outside the home. How does the computer pick up the TV program, does the computer need to be hooked up to some kind of cable. Do you have to have a wireless system? I basically need to know if you can watch your own TV in a hospital setting where there is probably no way to "hook-up" the computer to the internet.
Thanks so much for any help you can give!

you just have to have an internet connection of any type. I doubt dial up would work very well.....but my husband has wireless internet in Korea and he watches what is on our tv here at the house in the US. He doesn't have to plug into anything....just be online. Let me know if you need more info.

yes...it is a one time purchase. You can buy them at Circuit City (and I sure several other places). Just hook it up and you can watch your tv anywhere. We also have ours hooked up to the DVR....which is great since my husband is 15 hours ahead of us in time. He can record his favorite shows and watch them from anywhere. He said just watching the local news and local commercials makes him feel at home.

What a great idea! So he can set the DVR to record all the way in Iraq? Very Cool.

Yea, now I think I need to look into investing in a wifi laptop. But my laptop is only 2 years old and I hate the idea of having to get another one. But it would be great for us! Especially since the TV at that place is always set on CNN.

yeah he can......sometimes it's a little freaky, I'll turn on the tv, and the channels will change....spooks me a little, and of course he is still cable of deleting my shows on me.....LOL! I like being able to access on my blackberry too.....wait takes to long in the dr.'s office, etc. I just put on Nick Jr. or something to occupy the kids, or when I'm waiting for the boys at Karate I can watch my shows......

I'll bet it's also a wonderful feeling, knowing y'all are "watching TV" together!
