I will say this much. You won't find anything on the market that will help you more than Chantix. I'm smoke free now for 8 months. Thanks to Chantix
I had tried everything out there and nothing else worked. At one time I was taking Zyban and wearing the strongest patch--both at the same time.

You DO need some will power. It's not a magic pill. But if you REALLY want to quit, Chantix is your partner.
Just a word of advise---find something to do with your hands to break the hand to mouth motion. I found that to be the most difficult part of quitting. I kept my hands busy with a hand held Solitare game. And while I'm on the computer (I used to puff up a storm while surfing) I took a white drinking straw, cut it to the length of a cigarette, and packed one end of it with tissue to mimick the filter. I still have it sitting here by me in the ashtray

YOU GO GIRL. YOU CAN DO IT.

My sister quit with it for about 3 months now. She said she woke up on about the 8th day after taking, and she just didn't want to smoke at all. She did say she had a bit of trouble sleeping when she started but it corrected itself. She swears by it and still doesn't believe she stopped because she didn't even start it determined to quit. Her doc suggested it and she decided to give it a whirl.

I've looked at it myself and the only fear I have is the sleeping part since I am finally able to sleep through the night after a long bout of insomnia type symptoms. I heard they are working on an injectable type Chantix vs. taking it by mouth daily.

I quit 30 days ago. Hardest thing I've ever had to do. I wore the patch the first week.
Good Luck!

My father was a lifelong smoker. When he quit, his dr (who stepped him through the whole process) had a great idea for the hand to mouth motion that smokers feel the need to continue. He had my dad buy food grade cinnamon sticks. My dad carried these for several years after he quit. He would suck or "puff" on them whenever he got the urge. It helped with the habitual motion of hand to mouth that smokers need as they quit. Good luck!!!!

You can do it! I smoked for 29 years and Chantix was my lifesaver! I have been smoke free for 7 months now. It is a miracle drug. As you increase the dosage and go to smoke, the cigarette will taste terrible. I couldn't even be around smoke while I was on it. I did not have any sleep problems as some people mentioned, but when I upped the med to 2 mg./day, I did get indigestion the first week only and all I had to do was buy some Zantac to take during that time. It is the best thing on the market if you have tried to quit before and can't. I used the patch a few years ago but was only able to stay smoke free for 2 months. Good luck and keep us posted. E-mail me directly at lsmallwood0413@yahoo.com if you need any encouragement or help. --Lisa

I have a prescription for it that I haven't filled yet. Can anyone tell me how much it costs? We have United Healthcare insurance, and I haven't checked into whether or not they cover it. Thanks.

Its like $120 something per month without insurance. Some insurances will cover it and some won't.
Just compare the price to 1 carton of cigarettes per week for a month. It's pretty equal.

Thank you for educating me. I wish you luck. I know it can be really really hard. I just saw this article on Yahoo and thought it might be worth readingFDA: Chantix may pose psychiatric risks - Yahoo! News

You should be able to check on-line to see if your UHC will cover it or not (each policy is different -- it depends on what your empoyer has negotiated). Be sure you have perscription coverage through, UHC, however. We have UHC, but our perscriptions are through Medco.

I saw a warning about that on TV and meant to look it up! I agree with one statement from the drug company on this one, I would think quitting smoking would cause some problems that might not necessarily be from the drug, I can tell you first hand I had a really BAD attitude for the first couple weeks after quitting and I quit cold turkey, no drugs. I wouldn't say I was suicidal, but when you take a crutch away like that and have nothing to take it's place, sometime stress can be too much for some I guess. It is worth knowing before you start taking the drug though.

ANd good luck quitting, I can't even imagine being a smoker anymore! (But I still miss it, 10 years later.)

I have been wondering how you're doing on the Chantix? Well I hope.
I just found out my oldest dd has now quit, using Chantix and now my youngest dd says "well mon, you quit using it, now Lisa has quit using it, so now I'm going to try".
