Rottenneighbor.com.....what do you think?

This was in today's paper. I'm still not sure what I think about this site. Oh, and btw if you go to it....it's VERY slow.

Rottenneighbor.com is a new Web site where anyone can post anonymous comments, video and pictures about their neighbors. The developer says the site will help people choose a place to live. Critics say the posts could affect home values and invade people's privacy.

The site allows potential homebuyers and renters to be aware of good and bad neighbors before they move to an area, said site creator Brant Walker.

Internet users can type in any address on the home page and search the neighborhood through a Google Earth map. Bright-red house icons will pop up on top of the satellite image of a property if someone comments negatively on it. People can make positive comments, too, Walker said. Green house icons show where the nice neighbors live.

In theory it's a good idea, especially for house hunters...but I think in practice it's just going to be another way for petty people to fight.

You know how poorly things like this are updated. What if the bad neighbors move? I bet the house remains on the site with bad neighbors forever.

And who is to say who is the bad neighbor? Just because I don't like that you let your cat run loose and scare the birds from my feeder might make you a bad neighbor in my mind. The fact that I have a feeder might make me a bad neighbor in someone elses mind.

Yes, VERY slow....I didn't even view the sight, it took so long...and I have High Speed connection. Oh well.....

Hmmmm, wonder if they can get sued for slander??? I agree with another poster, seems to be just a way for people to fight over petty things.

I would becareful it could make it really hard to sell your house or one of your neighbor's houses and could really drive down prices in neighborhood. It would be nice if you could also post great neighbors too.

I was able to read some of the postings and basically it seems like petty people posting gripes. I really doubt that anything i saw posted today would make me not buy a house. The owners of the site might have meant for it to be a serious real estate tool but it doesnt seem how that is what it is turning out to be.

It was on the Early show this morning too.

Sad. but BAD neighbors can lower property values! Having said that - the things they are posting are not what I am talking about.

We know of one nice home that had neighbors with a yard full of trash, and some junk cars, and they let the house go to pot. NO need for anyone to post that because you would have to blind not to see it for your self.

Who wants to buy next door to them though??

The few that I read in our old neighborhood were very petty. They were funny though.

I pulled up 4 zip codes in our country and only saw one comment...stupid one too. Wouldn't prevent me from buying a house unless it was from the guy making the comment. His comment was immature and petty...probably a college student (it was near the college).

I found a post from two streets over from me. I guess it would make me look twice, if I were buying a house.

I went to the site and found it interesting! The site wasn't slow for me at all. I did find a few vents in distant areas near us but none in our neighborhood. It was really fun, though, to see my house from the satellite view. It's really cool to see everything nearby and just follow the road thru the countryside.

Personally, I don't like these kinds of sites. I am a teacher. I found a site rating teachers. My school was on it. It contain a lot of incorrect negative information written by 3 unhappy people. They did remove the wrong information. When things are sent anonymous that person is protected but not the person or thing they are writing about. If I had not found the site that information would have been floating on the internet for who knows how long.
