Turbo Tax E-file WARNING

Just a warning regarding Turbo Tax electronic filing.

We e-filed last year, and our federal did not go through. The IRS said that someone had already filed using one of our dependants social security numbers, and we would have to print out our taxes and mail them in. They were suppose to investigate it (the IRS) this summer, but we never heard a word from them. Not sure if it was the truth or not at this point.

The $30 fee for e-filing had been charged to our credit card immediatey, so we contacted Turbo Tax thinking we would get a refund. They WILL NOT refund your money if the government requests that you file by mail. I was livid. They have it in small print somewhere, that they will not refund the $30 if the IRS wants a hard copy of your forms.

It's sorta a $30 gamble that you will get your money early......

The way that type of "Investigation" goes is, If the other person didn't file an amended return (1040X) return to take the dependent off the account, you both would have gotten letters saying something like Hey this number was claimed on more than return if it was a mistake please correct it, if it wasn't corrected then a few months letter another letter similar to that would go out and if it still wasn't not corrected a few months later you and the other person who used the number would get a letter saying, OK this number was used by more than one person, prove you are able to claim this Dependent.

The reason they wont refund the $30 cost (why was it $30 I paid $19.95 and got it back on a rebate ?) is because the IRS charges E-File Providers a fee to E-File and they paid that fee and thats why they wont refund you.

If the IRS hasnt did the investigation yet you need to get on top of that so that it doesnt happen again this year. Call them at 800-829-1040 or call the Taxpayer Advocate's office for your state they are there to help Taxpayers who are suffering a undue hardship due to either IRS error in not timely solving a problem or other reasons here is the link to search for your state's office Contact a Local Taxpayer Advocate yes it is part of the IRS but they are great they helped me more than once on Injured Spous Claim that took 8 months to review and it shouldnt take that long.
