| Has anyone been to Great Wolf Lodge? I was thinking about taking the family there for a couple of days in the summer in PA. How is it? Are the food prices reasonable? How are the rooms? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Exhale94 |

I never went to the PA one, but I live not too far away. I have boycotted them for two reasons... they are insanely expensive...food isnt included, and its expensive and kid oriented (pizza and such) the one in the Poconos got caught TWICE dumping sewage into one of our creeks (which dumps into the delaware river, and eventually the bay and ocean). They didnt even have a septic system, just a pipe to the creek. This made me VERY upset, as we are huge outdoors people. Then, they do it again!! This place brings in TONS of money, but dumped sewage into a creek. just made me very mad (can you tell lol???) and I would never patronize them for this reason |

We go to the one in KC. The kids love it! I would really try to not be there at peak times.....weekends. We go on a Sunday/Monday then we have the place to ourselves on Monday. You can check out of your room on departure date but stay at the waterpark for the day. Another great tip is sign up for the family suite at reservaion time and at check in ask if upgrades are avaliable, you can get into a upgraded room for $25.00. At least that is the way it works here. Also during the night they slipped a flyer under our door saying stay one more night for $99.00.... Last edited by 4csmom; 02-07-2008 at 08:20 AM. We love the great wolf lodge. Granted the rooms are a little pricey however I would definitely suggest just getting the basic room - you are not in the room the majority of the time and to me anything other than the family room is ridiculous in pricing. I would also look into taking your own drinks and sandwich meat or going out to eat when you get there. The food prices in the resort are crazy. They have a dorm size refrigerator in the room and a microwave if you want to take anything to make while there. The water park is great however I would only suggest staying a max of 2 days any longer and you will get bored. We have a 5 year old son and he loves it there and we do too. We have stayed with them 3 times in the past year. Also make sure to google for any discounts or specials going on for when you are wanting to go. We usually get our rooms for anywhere from 150 - 190 a night and it is worth it to us. I noticed in doing the research before we decided to go there and a lot of people claim that the amount of clorine they use dry their eyes and make it hard to breathe for them however we did not experience any problems with our trip at all. I wear contacts and never had a problem with my eyes drying out at all. I think you will love it if you give it a go! Good luck with your decision |

We have been to the one in the Poconos and the one in Sandusky, OH. I do love them and so do my kids, but my DS who is 8 is still too short to ride most of the really big slides. Once the kids get a little older, mid-teen's, they are not as interested. My DH and I Love these places. There are fun things to do that don't involve water as well, but be prepared to pay $$$. We also want to try the Kalahari in Sandusky, OH, which is even more expensive than the Great Wolf Lodge. They are really expensive though and we normally make this one of the few trips we take per year. |

We like the one in Wisconsin Dells. We've stayed a few times, but it is pricey. We don't usually eat there. It is fun! We stay at the Kalahari now. We have a kind of relative that works there for awhile and gets us a discount on the rooms, and some of the shopping stuff. We do a family thing and get a 3 bedroom suite with a living room, fire place, kitchen, frig, etc. Every division of the family takes a room, and we all have fun! P.S. Click on Great Wolf's promotions and maybe you will find some discounts.

| We had planned on staying at the Lodge in Pennsylvania as compared to the Lodge in Virginia last summer. Sounds like a lot of fun. We changed our minds on staying at the one in Williamsburg because of this tragedy (if you are sensitive to tragedies please don't open the link): Girl dies after being pulled from pool at Great Wolf Lodge | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com I just couldn't get it out of my head. We had walked into the Lodge at Williamsburg to book a room--nothing at the time was available. Anyway, stayed at another hotel and just so happened to see an article in the newspaper referring to the above incident. Just so sad. |

A nearby city (Grapevine,TX) recently opened one of these. It looks really neat but the prices seem expensive. They had been advertising a special for $169/night in a family room as a grand opening deal. And it's restricted to Sunday-Thursday and only March-May. Granted, we'd pay around $140 for admission & parking for our family of 5 to go to Hurrican Harbor for 1 day. The special for the Grizzly Suite is $369/night - Whoa! ![]() As for that very sad story, why is there no mention of the parents? I have a 4 year old son and either my DH or I always have our eyes on him. We also have a 10yo & 13yo and keep our eye on them, too. They are older so they get a little more leeway but they still have to be within view of us. I realize I don't know the whole story and accidents do happen..but it's sad. peapie |

thats a terrible story. You cant take your eyes off your kids. I also wonder why there was no life vest used? We went to Water Country USA last summer and they had life vests of all sizes all over the places. I'd rather be safe than sorry
